Everytime I come back to the game AN has decided to nerf one thing or another and I am tired of having to buy new armor sets and the storage space in this game leaves a LOT to be desired so I cannot store every armor type for every toon I have. The only classes I do not have a lvl 80 for are a warrior and thief.

Is there any way to get armor sets without having to buy or make them everytime a change is made? I hope that is not the way the game is and that I’ve just been doing things the wrong way but there’s no way I am buying any more armor an weapon an jewelry sets just because AN has zero idea how to balance the game and just keep things static w/o major line changes.

WvW can be pretty convenient for acquiring exotic sets of gear. I’ve acquired exotic armor and weapon sets for various builds from the WvW vendors.

The first downside is that you’re limited in your stat choices (though they do sell the more common ones).

The second, and perhaps worse, downside is that the items are not salvageable for some ridiculous reason. This means if you later want to upgrade to ascended or change the stats on one item, you won’t be able to salvage to rune or sigil from the item.

However, it can be quite a kitteneaper to acquire them in this way, especially if you don’t use your WvW badges on anything else. In fact, if you level an alt primarily in EotM (kind of boring, I know), you’ll often have grinded so many badges that you’ll be able to kit them in full exotic weapons and armor when they’re level 80 (provided you want one of the offered stat combos).

As for trinkets, all the ascended stuff is account bound, so you only ever need to get one set of them. WvW badges can even be put towards the amulets or rings if you want to save on some laurels (although I’d always recommend doing fractals for rings).

So, back to my original question since the two repliers answered nothing obviously not understanding the question, is there other ways for gaining armor other than buying or grinding mats to make it?

Well you said you’ve “gotten the meta gear” multiple times over the course of the games lifespan. I’ve “gotten the meta gear” multiple times over the course of the games lifespan as well. I’ve also gotten non-meta gear. The meta has not changed.

My first armorset was Knight/Soldier mix so I could survive in PvE and learn encounters. I progressed to Zerkers using dungeon tokens which cost me nothing except time (while also giving me money and materials). I then crafted and bought (again, using dungeon tokens) multiple armorsets including, but not limited to:

  • Valkyrie
  • Givers
  • Rabid
  • Rampagers
  • Magic Find (forgot which) currently sitting around as statless
  • Celestial
  • Berserkers again
  • Assassin ascended

Do note that these are all on the same character. The only “meta” gear on that character are the Berserker and Assassin, with the Celestial only barely being useful meta before the April patch. All gear except the Assassins is exotic and soulbound to that character. Most of the gear, if available, was gained through dungeon tokens and not bought or crafted (except Assassins, Celestial, and Giver’s for obvious reasons).

Now if your question isn’t answered by my obvious hinting of use dungeon tokens to not buy or craft gear, because you’re still “buying” the gear using “dungeon tokens”, then no answer will satisfy you other than being handed free gear because you misread the meta multiple times and keep going on hiatus.

There is no way of “earning” gear other than through currency (TP, WvW, Karma, Dungeon Tokens) or crafting unless you wish to grind for the off chance that you’ll loot the exact stat you’re looking for, also the right weight type for your profession.

If you’re trying to make a large and loud complaint so some support guy comes along and gives you a free level 100 Draenei Shaman 80 Norn Warrior decked out in full ascended Berserker because you’re a returning customer and they want you to stay, you’re not playing the right game.

1) Dungeon runs for tokens
2) Edge of the Mists for badges

THANKYOU!!! I knew there was something Ive been missing, quite honestly I’ve avoided dungeons because of the “sorry we are looking for a ….” when trying to join groups doing them but I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet. Funny if I have to buy new armor to fit some current meta for dungeons so I can farm meta armor for wvw lol. I doubt that’ll happen but you never know.

Unless you’re running with some super elite GvG group you don’t need any sort of “new meta” gear for WvW. (are there even any of those left?)

As long as you have exotic quality gear you should be fine, once you shake the rust off your dodging finger.

Most classes meta builds haven’t changed much or at all in a long time. Gear stats just augment a build anyway, more important are the skills, traits and some runes (shout guardian with trooper runes for example, hasn’t changed much since launch, still has a good place in any zerg and works with any of knight/soldier/sentinel/cleric/magi gear sets or a hybrid of a few types).

Hats off to all the ones who stood before me, and taught a fool to ride.

Out of curiosity, what gear set are you abandoning and as a result of what balance change? While I’ve changed some gear pieces over time, I hardly ever change any more.

Wait…..the game is progressing while you are away and that makes you very angry? Really?

It wasnt kittening per se, I just wanted to know if I was doing it all wrong BUT AN making changes to force people to have to spend a ton of money at their whim is just lame when they do it so often.

But hey Gosu thank you for your inspirational input typical of yet another kitten stroking wanna be cool guy. Thank you gaming community!

So, back to my original question since the two repliers answered nothing obviously not understanding the question, are there other ways for gaining armor other than buying or grinding mats to make it?

Why are you changing your armor stats again? Did you try to complete some content and then failed because your stats were slightly different? You don’t have to answer that we all know the answer is no.

Either way if you’re so obsessed about having the absolute best stat configuration then dungeon running is your best bet to get gear for free.

If you’re OK with PVT, then WvW is even easier to gear your character in full exotics.

It honestly sounds like you’re used to other games where if you take a long break you have to come back and play catch up with everyone. It’s not like that in GW2. Your stat combo is still good, it will always be good, even when they make balance changes your stat combo is still good. You can complete all PvE in any stat configuration (no joke, you absolutely can), so really, who cares.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
