New Aspect To Our Rewards System

So the Super Adventure Box update got me thinking about our achievements, and specifically our rewards for living story updates. For a while now we’ve been getting good stuff (my favourite being dragon wings), and… not so good stuff.. (Zephyr Sanctum model…) We’ve been also getting a whole lot of other back pieces, minis and the usual weapon and armour skins.

Don’t get me wrong, as I usually do enjoy the rewards, but I feel after every two weeks of new content I don’t even know what to do with all these items.

Therefore I’m asking for a new aspect to the rewards system. Something that takes an idea from the original Guild Wars, and that is our very home instance.

For those who haven’t played it, in GW1 everyone had access to their Hall of Monuments, where they could proudly show off their achievements in minis, armour, weapons and titles in the form of statues. Great idea! Our home instance is currently largely ignored and I feel it would be a perfect permanent reward if we could “build up” our very own homes and show off our participation in these living stories.

I haven’t fleshed out any ideas of what could be added, but Arenanet hit the nail on the head when they added the crystal quartz node for us to farm.

I’m thinking maybe more statues, a bard singing our victories, an armour closet….

What are your opinions?

I think at PAX Colin said something they’d like to look into is a closet like in PvE for all the skins you collected.

It’s nice to collect all these skins, but once you place a new one down, or get a replacement just so you can hold onto the skinned item kinda sucks.

Either you’re permanently losing a back-skin (Shattered Wings etc.) or you’re dumping skins/skinned weapons/armor into your bank. Hopefully we’ll get a PvE closet someday.

This has been around since pre-launch. They just never got around to implementing it. Back when they were talking up the game and all they were going to do, your home instance was supposed to evolve with your character, reflecting your defeats and triumphs along the way.

Unfortunately, “When it’s ready” didn’t include a lot of things. There are things scattered around the game from back when ANet was dreaming big that fell to the need to launch the game.

*Home instance evolving
*Shooting range in DR (my that’s one kitten of a private party, to last a full year!)
*Polymock arena (evidenced by the portal to it in Rata Sum)
*NPCs with elderly voices but the same youthful models we use for PCs
*The alignment system (ferocity/nobility/charm) which was supposed to have an effect on how NPCs react to you

And probably more I’m not thinking of at the moment. Something caused ANet to launch before it was “ready”, and they’ve had bigger fish to fry ever since.

Something, in my opinion. was the release of MoP. They didn’t want to release the game after MoP, in case it was a runaway success.

In spite of the negatives, it was probably a good business decision.

In our home instance I wouldn’t mind like having a Mannequin to hang all of my armor on. A couple of weapon’s racks would be nice as well. Also to add to the personal story it would have been nice to have mural or a picture of me defeating Zhaitan.

I guess with the quartz crystals its a start to evolving your home instance.
