Personally never been so underwhelmed by a full set of weapon skins as I have been this morning. Apart from the scepter (at a push) are people really wanting these?

What do you all think about them? Would you want any?

Personally I found them funny. While I was watching the skins I chuckled a few times. True that they look like low level mob drops, but I don’t mind.
People did whine how black lion skins look better than legendary weapons, so some balance has been restored now xD

I love the set and it was a perfect set to release around Halloween. I don’t have a character I’d use them on otherwise I would have gotten quite a few of them. They’re great.

Just remember, not every set will appeal to everyone. Let them make some “bad” sets you don’t like because someone else is going to love them and want them all.

I thought they were interesting and much better than many others I’ve seen. Especially the chair shield. None fit any of my chars but there wasn’t anything wrong with them, besides having to buy them and not get them as a drop.

Not to that extreme, but the weapon skins are supposed to be launched to make people spend gems. I don’t know about anybody that’s spending gems on these, so yes, they can have fun all they want (and probably make fun of the keyfarmers, too) but they better work to improve their game because the expansion is weak….

Oh I dunno, I though the broken bottle/dagger looked pretty awesome.

Not awesome enough for me to spend $$$ on this game anymore. But I could say that about every Black Lion weapon skin.

I love every single one of them, especially the sword and I am the proud owner of the staff which I steal peoples coats with, on my thief.

I had the most fun looking at the improvised weapon skins. I’m highly amused by them. They’re appropriate for Halloween, being the kind of stuff you’d pick up to defend yourself from a zombie invasion, etc.

Well…I can’t see myself using any of these but it’s a pretty cool set, and definitely not the worst of the Black Lion skins. Suitable for anyone who wants to roleplay as an adventurer lost in the jungle who has to ‘MacGuyver’ their way through it. I especially like how each piece is unique despite having an overall theme. Definitely would like to see more sets designed this way.

This is opinion. One I do not share.
The mace from the improvised weapons is f-ing heavy metal.

Some designs work others do not. I at least applaud them for going in a different direction.

Do we really need more plant designs?

- ugly weapons get sold on the blt
- meanwhile some crazy nice stuff like the machined weapons and auric weapons are acquired in game through content therefore symbolizing a sense of merit while still looking pretty nice

I’m tempted to create an exotic set of armour and weapons, and use the new improvised weapon skins along with the starter armour/some other basic looking armour.

the first set of bl weapons i am would be willing to gamble for (i don’t need to tho since i’ll just buy them with gold). the sword, hammer, dagger and greatsword look absolutely amazing.
i wish there would be more sets like that.

I love Improvised skins because they make me save my black lion tickets.

Same here. Most of the weapon sets look very typical, “epic-fantasy” boring stuff (TO ME). The Improvised at least are original and creative. I’m still slowly collecting scraps and waiting for a truly steampunk set like the Aetherized, but the Sword, Shield, Hammer and Scepter on this set certainly tempted me.

These still look better than some legendaries. :P

Although, I did not love every one of the Improvised weapons, several appeal to me. I’m still considering getting the Scepter. I think the zombie doll is awesome! =)

The Sword and the hammer is awesome! I never get Black lion ticket weapons for myself though (I only sell them). I don’t buy these becouse I imagine not many like them so I will save my tickets for a more Hyped Weapon.

There are a dozen other weapon sets available and there will be who knows how many dozen more after.

Personally I think these are awesome, and judging by the trading post prices which began at about 40G higher than average per weapon, you may be the one with the minority opinion here.

The Fishing Rod Longbow I found to be a bit of a chuckle, bearing in mind all the requests to bring fishing into the game recently (myself included)

That’s true. These are a perfect choice for weapons found on the Pact fleet crash site.

Oh you. New weapon skins as in game drops without a corresponding content patch? Clearly you’ve forgotten which game you’re playing.

This is not the arenanet of yore that simply adds weapon skins to the game silly. This is the arenanet that releases a fifty dollar expansion alongside a nearly-as-expensive day one gem store package, and creates an entirely new equipment slot that can only equip gem store purchases.

Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoy HoT. But recognize the gemstore train isn’t pulling over any time soon.

As for the skins? Brilliant. I was getting sick of slightly different colored spikes and particle effects. Now I can get a more awesome staff to match the whiskey bottle and mug mace/focus on my heal guardian.

Not everyone wants shiny, elaborate ‘beautiful’ weapons. Some people really like the simpler designs and quite a few people have a theme in mind for their characters and pick weapons to match it. There’s also some people who just like unusual ideas, and I can imagine those types especially liking these weapons.

And if you don’t like them you already have hundreds of other weapons to choose from, including numerous Black Lion weapon sets.

Wait, you mean a set of weapons you could earn in-game for doing content you already paid for? Skins with a theme that matched the context of the area you could earn them in?

ArenaNet wants to double dip into your wallet though and there are people on the forums willing to defend it!

I’d understand these weapons being sold if HoT was free, but it isn’t. If you paid for HoT you should be ticked these weren’t put in the game as earnable. These remind me of the pirate JP weapons in LA you could buy. Hey look! I did this JP and there is this cool weapon vendor here with odd weapons that signify the content I completed!

Can we please go back to that for armor and weapons and backpieces and gliders? I buy an x-pac and all that stuff is bundled in. That’d be great.

I love every single Improvised skin. The problem is my alt that would most use them, my human warrior who from day one was conceived as a ball of fury who could pick up anything and make it a weapon … is one I just don’t play. So I got the broken glass bottle dagger because I’d hate not to have that one in the future, even though the warrior can’t use a dagger (yet?), and am saving tickets for future sets such as Glittering.

But I’m sore tempted by the longbow. I mean, it’s a fishing rod. But then there’s the saw shortbow, the coat rack staff, the broken clock focus, the broken window sword … so much brilliance and attention to detail and imagination went into this set. If I were a TP baron who could afford complete BL sets, this is one I’d be building.

edit: Yes, I’d love this to be an in-game collection. I’d devote my time to unlocking the skins.

Just hurry up and take my money! Put the 1h “katana” and “katana” dagger up for sale, they have been in the .dat since the March patch. They will sell like HoT cakes…

If you don’t like them, don’t buy them. This is an interesting type of weapon skin that hasn’t really existed before.

I personally think its hilarious!

I guess RPers may like them. The dagger and longbow were kinda funny but wouldn’t use my ticket on them.

Well tbh it could be the fact that scraps/tickets are not so easy to come by (especially now that key farming is pretty much dead). Even if people do find these skins interesting and decent enough for them to use that is not to say that they would not rather save their tickets/scraps for if in case a new better, super, duper, uber looking skin set comes out next.

I used to be able to get a key a day or more and a ticket a month. Now it’s more like 6 months to get a ticket. If it takes me 6 months now to get one ticket I have to be more that just liking it. It has to be perfect for my char or something that I think will sell really well.

Have a friend who absolutely adored the scepter and of course bought it so I have no problem with it.

However RNG for keys for RNG for chest is BS
