The crafting daily can be done with scrap. Just turn your Jute Scrap into Bolts or Copper into Ingots. You’re gonna have to do that anyway if you’re saving crafting for later. Not to mention it’s a ton of good exp.

Do people not know that crafting is the fastest way to level?

That was mine last night :-) Went fast
Dodging was a little annoying at first but it really helped me with timing them better.

Yeah, I always dodge in the second before the evade, apparently. Somehow learning to retime it has been culture shock for me. lol I have most of today to get it right since I’m home sick. Ugh. My “daily” is beginning to mean that it’s going to take all day.

Well, it’s not a great way to level if you don’t enjoy it. Plus, leveling is super easy in this game for the most part. So many ways to go about it.

The easiest way I did my daily was just aggro a single enemy, stand in front of it…dodge…let it hit me until endurance recharge…dodge…

I’ll admit it wasn’t the most entertaining way to do it, but I imagine if I just did a dungeon it would have been done then.

Either way my method it took about 5 or so minutes.

I must say the new daily achie is a real disappointment.
Dodge…really? I prefer to die where I stand. Dodging is not my favourite thing to do. I do it sometimes but now I’m forced to get upclose and personal with the mobs just to finish my daily? Revive : another rather stupid choise. I’m a friendly guy. And I’ll help people when I meet them. Preferably before they get killed. But now I must first let them die and then I can rezz them. Hurray!

Dodging is one of the fundamental skills of GW2 combat, and a lot of people don’t know how to do it properly. This is why so many people complain about dungeons, etc. I can see how it’s really irritating for people who play mainly ranged though.

I didn’t like dodge when I first started playing, then I keybound dodge to my mouse wheel when I depress it :-) No more double direction clicking.

Edit: Again, You can revive NPCs as well. Also there’s plenty of events that people tend to die at and need reviving during….Maw comes to mind :-) The Giant event is a GREAT place to revive NPCs and Players for the daily achieve.

If you play solitaire with only one suit, your game is going to end faster and feel lacking.

I don’t mind the dailys. I still play the way I want to play, if I do them great, if I don’t get to them some days, that’s ok too. I dodge, craft, and rez whenever I play anyways so it fits for me.

No, the statement is that the new dailies are checklists which include extraordinary measures which players must go out of their way to complete, whereas the old dailies were thought of by ANet as a way to reward casual players who don’t, for example, run all 3 paths of a dungeon every 24 hours.

The new daily format no longer rewards casual players. QED.

EDIT: Now that this thread has been merged into a much broader topic and lost all specificity, the above may be irrelevant.

Yeah, the old dailies were really intuitive. Easy to complete during a casual playthrough for me. These new dailies will take me longer. Not a big deal, but it does figure in to my overall experience.

These dailies are perfect for a casual player like me. Why? Well, to start off the old dailies had you kill 60+ npcs at times, and that was plain boring. These new ones add variety to the game, and I finish them quite easily. You can finish pretty much all your dailies at a starter zone, and that’s exactly what I do lol.

I didn’t have a problem with yesterday’s daily list (gather X, kill variety X, events X, dodge X, and revive X), but that’s in large part because:

A. I play WvW and like it
B. I find dodging attacks easy and its an integrated technique for me.

But I can already see how the dodge X, revive X can be unfriendly to solo players or players who don’t like PvP. And the two failed attempts you yanked for the emergency patch (craft X and kill with combo X) are likewise very unfriendly to solo players or players who don’t enjoy crafting.

This is a BAD trend, Anet. And a BAD idea. You need to seriously rethink your approach to dailies.

What’s worse is that none of the 4 new types I listed do ANTHING at all to “get players back out into the world”, per your supposed design goals for the daily revamp that you’ve trumpeted in the past week.

I strongly recommend you revert to the standard daily list we’ve had for a while now, while your team takes a close second list at the new ones you dreamed up and thought we’d all love. You should ensure that each one is: solo-capable, does not require PvP to get done in a reasonable amount of time, and does not require crafting.

For example, that “revive X” one that I did last night. Well, that took about 20 minutes in WvW, but it would have been impossible out in the non PvP world. Honestly, how many non PvPers will stumble across dead players in the world? It’s not very common.

Why not make the new list more like:

Kill 5 different swamp creatures
Kill 5 different mountain creatures
Kill 5 different cave creatures
Harvest 15 nodes in caves
Protect an underwater village (1 underwater defense event)

… and so on. These would be solo-able AND would actually make people get out and explore the world?

for the ressing one, just res the npcs at the end of the ascalon (searing) before going on to the next fractal, if you are doing fractals.

i asked my friend to de-armor themselves and jump off a cliff a bunch of times.

since i did not have a crafting tier last night, does that mean it is a randomly generated list every day? i enjoy the bar in the corner of my UI screen, but i wish it also listed the tiers, not just overall progress %. i wish they modified it to track in the UI, like the renown hearts and Events do.

Personally, I prefer the new dailys and hope they stay. I like playing them and I like making more out of them (eg our guild found original ways to die to get rez deed. Only a superb death got a rez).

The rez deed is also solo friendly as it includes NPCs. Dead NPCs are dime a dozen

No one sees the problem with this? This is the type of thing that dailies promote… It’s been happening in sPvP for a long time (ever notice how all the players rush to the capture points and all stand there at the beginning of a match instead of actually going out and trying to win?).

So as far as I can tell, you have kept dailies the same, but have only made them harder, and require more boring stuff like crafting.

What happened to the new and exciting things every day, encouraging us to go back to old areas?

Still waiting for this to happen, but the laurels are a slight improvement. The rewards look decent too.

The new daily requirements aren’t that bad, you can make 10 items very quickly. Reviving 10 allies would have been hard except that they included NPCs which simplifies the task.

Story mode/Explorable mode dungeons still need a little love though.

If a 7.2 counts as an emergency spend the time working at the hospital helping people with crush injuries after being rescued from collapsed buildings.

That said i like the new dailies, they take a little longer but the rewards are way beyond a jug a coin and a silver, people to rez are easy to find, NPC’s seem to die in droves, dodge find any event that uses siege weapons wait for a red circle …dodge, gather easy, kill things doing it any way.

My only complaint is the crafting daily. It’s unnecessarily burning up materials and money for little to no return. I don’t actually need the crafted items and of course they take up precious inventory space. I’ve seen several people suggest selling them instead. IMHO, I don’t think those people have thought things through completely.

With several million people grinding their way through crafting dailies at least once and perhaps more times per week (in addition to all the other crafting going on), the materials market is going to go sky high and the crafted item seller’s market is going to have the bottom drop out. People who don’t want to do it for their dailies will effectively see an income nerf.

I guess we’ll see how it all shakes out. The other new dailies were nothing earth shaking (at least not yet) and provide some variety.

Refine ore or wood, they have their own ‘space’ in your bank.

Thanks for the new dailies, now when I see the “dodger” or “crafter” I know its time to take a break from this game, because I will not be doing them at all, Its annoying to dodge npc attacks and the game simply fails at that. I dont really want to farm the mats or spend gold to complete the crafter. I am not going to spend hours trying to get the killing blow with combo, I will not bother trying to do a combo skill with my friends because we dont have hours to spend trying to hit abilities after abilities in specific order. I hate underwater combat so Underwater Kills is a no go for me,

Dodging… if you have to try to get that in combat then I don’t know what to tell you. That one happens without thinking.

It doesn’t always, actually. The daily requires a certain timing that some, myself included, don’t “naturally” often hit. I’ve been working on my dodge timing because my “natural” dodge doesn’t include the evade needed for the daily.

Some people do not understand that dodging an attack does not have to equal to seeing the “dodged” or “evaded” or whatever the message is.

Some people are too ignorant to see that someone liked the previous daily system and the new one just is not working out for him.

~~snip~~

Dodge X: If you don’t dodge over 10 attacks per hour of play in this game, I hate to say this but you are doing it wrong. I don’t care what class you play, dodging is an essential mechanic to being even somewhat mediocre at this game. If you don’t dodge, learn to do it.

Revive X: Yeah, I thought this was bad as well until I learned reviving NPCs counts. If worst comes to worst, just give a shout-out in map chat asking if anyone is willing to leap to their death for you. I don’t even think it should come to that. If you are of level to do it, killing Jormag and reviving those who fall in battle will easily net you enough revives to get this one.

Craft X: Yeah, this one perplexes me a little. The way I will handle it is to have an alt slowly leveling by craft. I’ll just have him craft the daily each day and then stop. This should last me forever. If, for whatever reason, that character hits 80, I’ll just start on another one.

Combo X: I didn’t have a chance to do this one. Is it combo fields or just an assisted kill? If it’s an assisted kill, NPCs probably count, making it easy. If it’s combo fields, Most characters have both combo fields and finishers they can activate solo to satisfy this requirement.

All are capable solo (I did my daily alone last night) with a minimal effort.

The new dailies wouldn’t bother me as much if Anet didn’t go and make them necessary for ascended gear and in such a fashion that basically amounts to this game being a second job.

If I want an Ascended Amulet I have to log on and play for 1-2 hours every day for 35 days per amulet; heaven help me if I want an alternate build or to kit out my alts. Sounds like a part time job that I paid for to me. . .

Why do I want Ascended gear? Because there’s nothing else left in the game for me to go for. I already have exotics and a build that I like, I already have an appearance that I’m fond of, so why wouldn’t I want ascended gear at this point in my game play?

“Crafter” I can kind of understand being upset over but “dodger”? Really? I said it above; who doesn’t dodge in this game? Dodge is a full second of invulnerability and that is invaluable in this game.

“We want to give you the freedom to play the content that interests you. The list will change daily to provide an array of options for earning your laurels. Pick what interests you, play, and be rewarded!”

There are other things to do in this game beside dailies….or are you telling me you simply log in, do your daily, and log out? If that’s all you do, I’m not sure why you play at all anyway.

Previous ones could be done while leveling, while helping friends who just started this game, basicly the previous dailies completed themselves for me while I leveled or played the way I wanted to play this game, for the new ones I have to make a stop and take a left turn instead of right turn. If it’s not registering correctly, they will fix it. Despite that, if you find a creature with a big wind-up, you can probably learn to time it properly. It can be done. I did it, no sweat :-)

I don’t think they are giving Laurels for the monthly this month as people who completed it early would lose out. They say that a monthly gives 10 Laurels though so that’s how much you will usually get.

The daily took me about an hour and a half. Too many kitten Risen in Bloodtide Coast made kill variety lengthy. The dodges came during the 5 events. Gathering, done as usual. I did not “get” to do the combo thing or the craft thing as they were already patched out when I got on. I have one friend who hates crafting and avoids it like the plague in every game he’s played, so he won’t be doing that daily.

Seriously, the mistake ANet made was rolling the new dailies out in parts. If the pick 4 of 6 option was put in at the same time as the new dailies, people could more readily avoid the ones that kitten them off. There would have been a lot fewer complaints. I won’t say none because people will always find something that irks them.

Not really used dodging much if at all before (just never really used it) but still was able to figure it out and complete the daily today. Though 10 dodges would have still challenged me a lot, lol. I did get a bit frustrated at thinking I may not make my 15 but did manage it. I admit I did learn how to dodge and fight a bit better because of this.

Also I do understand that some days I may not be able to complete the daily because of what they demand that day may be beyond my capabilities, but at the same time I like the idea of stretching the limits what I can do and learn through this and get better at making my daily. It did encourage me to do more events and think about what I could do to achieve the daily in creative ways. Patience and persistence often gets you to the end goal. Changing the daily achievements encourages me to hit new marks and try things I may have just not tried yet so for me this is an ok thing. Satisfaction is more intense when you overcome the things you didn’t think you could.

Overall I find this game like a good book…. take your time and savor what you are doing, learn and just plain have fun. The rewards do come. Everyone has a different play style and goals so I do understand the frustrations. My ultimate goal is to just have fun, enjoy and learn.

Very proud of my first laurel!

Hi “Newb Here” – not sure if this was answered before… i completed the dailies last night and got 1 laurel for that.. kewl… my real question is how much laurels am I missing out on if I don’t complete the monthly since I don’t pvp?

Thanks.. catch ya in game!

I don’t think they are giving Laurels for the monthly this month as people who completed it early would lose out. They say that a monthly gives 10 Laurels though so that’s how much you will usually get.

ahhh.. so in 1 day ya can make a total of 11 points (laurels)… so by not doing the monthly i get 1 laurel a day…. :-(

k.. gotcha.

I thought we were suppose to have a choice of 4 out of 6 to do; but I find I HAVE to do 5. This is more than before the change. Dodges/combos ? I think you ought to revert.

The complains about the dailies is always kind of perplexing to me. I mean, from my point of view, dailies are easier to do, and they give better rewards. Like, really? Is the old system where you gain a bottle of Karma and a Mystic Coin for grinding out 60-kills (and 15 of them have to be unique creatures) really better than dodging 10 times for a laurel that helps you work towards end-game gear?

Meh I found them pretty easy to do but I didn’t get on until 10PM AU time.
Time < 1 hour and done.
And on the upside I got to explore some new areas in the lower levels I hadn’t made time to go to yet.
