For the last few months we had daylies that moved away from the extremely tightly controlled reprieved feeling that A-Net is forcing us to do things.

That was replaced by daylies that were a lot more flexible and broader spectrumed.

For example, we went from “Do three Events in Kryta” to “Do 3 events… anywhere”.

Great!
Weather you are a new player with only one zone uncovered, or a vet who likes a specific area, it was better.

Now we went backwards, but even a step further. Not “Do 3 events in Kryta”. No, “Do 3 events in Kesex Hills”. The only way this can get worst is if we are told to do 3 events around a specific WP. Or god forbid, do three heart quests… in Fireheart Rise.

My suggestion is too improve this and go the 2 steps forward the the system took back, is to loosen the control again. I don’t mind the new system, but I REALLY hate how it feels like A-net is trying to force us to do SPECIFIC things again.

Come on chaps. Do you neither learn nor listen?

The point is to maybe – it’s optional after all, since laurels and coins now come from logging in (that was the compromise, btw) – get you to go to an area you haven’t been to in a while.

Here’s what I think too many players don’t realize any more after months of ticking off their daily meta with their brains shut down: Dailies are not a requirement. At all. Due to the currency they kinda ended up being one, but that is fixed now, finally, thanks.
So, if your inner will to refuse to go to Kessex Hills, try WvW or play a Thief is stronger than the little enticement of the daily, then fair enough. Just don’t. Nothing here is forcing you. That’s the whole point. There’s 0 requirement, instead there’s a reward if you do go there. A tiny one, sure, but it’s still there so maybe you want to? Noticed how many people did an 11-20 FotM yesterday? Sure more than before the dailies

Why do you feel “forced” to go somewhere and do something “you don’t want to do”? I mean, what forces you? You still get the currencies, you aren’t forced to do anything, that’s the whole point.

The previous implementation failed on the specific announcement of what dailies were supposed to be years ago. They were meant to entice you to do something you weren’t already doing. If you don’t, no harm done. If you do, here have a token reward. Problem is, the currencies being so required ruined that, so they ended up generalizing the dailies so much that it really didn’t matter what you did, here, have your laurel and coin and luck.
Now, the devs went full circle on that, automating that process but also ripping out the -not working – daily system and replacing it with one which is specific enough to do that. And again, if you ignore it entirely, no harm done. So it’s fine if you don’t want to go to Kessex Hills to do events there, no one is penalizing you for it.

(edit)
As a food for thought, with how generic the dailies used to be, a common comment is that someone could just “play how they wanted”, and still get the dailies done. Agreed, but then why isn’t the log-in-reward system actually much superior to that?
It still rewards you for playing however you want, but it no longer needs a programmatically rather complicated system to do it.

The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.

Well, I for one enjoy the new dailies. But this is with the mindset that I won’t do them every day, which is ok.

I like it because I find myself getting bored to log in and do the exact same couple of things every day while I wait for new LS, and as much as I like farming, it can get dull after a while.

The new dailies give me a reason to break my routines. The PvE ones seem like a good way to get a little bit of time in on alts, maybe do some more map exploration I haven’t lately on them, and generally let me level them up without wandering around or just zerging through EOTM. I have no thoughts on WvW ones because I rarely do that mode, and the PvP ones seem like a fun way to get used to other characters (or you know, just play the one you like and get 2 done pretty easy.)

Honestly, they seem to actually reward non-PvE people the quickest. So there’s a thought for you.

If you just want to knock them out fast, just do a quick match in PvP, and you’ll probably get 2, then jump on someone who can get to a vista quickly and boom, you’re done. 10 minutes max.

The point I am trying to make may be a little vague. You must also remember, that AP is important for some people, and that is a currency you don’t get for just logging in.

The point I tried to make is that the system as a whole could be even better by making the points that is required to accomplish it more generic.

So, then, those (like me) who CHOOSE to do the daylies, do not “FEEL” forced to do specific things.

Just do those specific things and try to enjoy them ;-)

I thought it was annoying I had to go to kryta to log instead of just doing it in the borderlands. I did 3 events in kessex hills while searching for trees.

Boom. Success.

In case people haven’t realized it yet, it’s just ANet’s way of getting more action in zones that are very much dead. Also, it’s keeping us in game a little longer.

More than a few of us did our dailies, and then logged out.

Especially if we were caught up-to-date with the latest patches. There’s no endgame. So there’s no reason to stay logged in once we caught the latest carrot.
