New Expansion-New Class
I’d love to see it, and it’s certainly a possibility, however with that said, it might not be a high priority of the devs to add more work to their schedule with a new class.
Elite specializations are meant to fill that role. There could be a new profession/class one day, but it’s highly unlikely considering one of the reasons they gave for adding one in HoT was to fill out the 3 weights with 3 professions each.
With HoT they had excuse: Make heavy armor also have 3 professions. With new expansion, i doubt it. Any a fully new profession and two new elite spect (new class would mean that), or just 9 fully fleshed out elite specs? Last is clearly easier for Anet and probably will deliver more on the quality also.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Nope, no new class with the expansion. Stop getting your hopes up on things that are so unlikely to happen, you’ll just end up dissapointed.
9 new elite specialistions though.
One can dream can’t they! I just really miss my GW1 Ritualist Although I would happily settle with the new elite specialisations! Hopefully they will release some more news on the specialisations soon.

Nothing wrong with hoping one of the elite specialisations fills that role. Personally I think arenanet might take a step back from pet classes with all the afk farming getting out of hand lately.
Then again these kind of decisions and what type elite specialisation gets added was likely made over 1 year ago.
If I had to estimate a timeline on the next few months, it would look something like this:
- coming tuesday trailer for Season 3 finale (kinda given since it was anounced)
- tuesday after that (25.7.) Season 3 finale with a couple of bug fix patches the following days/week
- let the season finale settle in for a good 3-4 weeks
- final balance patch pre expansion in september
- announce next expansion at PAX early september
- expansion hitting live game end of the year around end of november, early december. Not much later this year as to avoid the christmas release of new games and sales
- if it doesn’t come out this year, expect end of january as next release slot
Then again, who knows how far along they are with the expansion and if timelines are met.
Elite specializations are the way to go I feel like, they are easier to make work properly. Some of the classes have some problems that need fixing and adding another class to the mix would not be a good idea. I’m sure ANET will fixing a lot of things with the expansion so we should be expecting a lot of changes.

If they think AFK farming is a serious problem (and it seems like they do) then they need to look at why so many players feel compelled to afk farm in the first place, and why it picked up so heavily after leather was handled in such an atrocious manner with HoT, and then address the root of the issue instead of just addressing the symptoms

Afk farming didn’t pick up with leather farming.
Afk farming has always been present in the game, but was taking place in not as active player areas.
The reason it’s now so visible is due to how the new maps reward players (yes the leather farm is part of that, but personally I’m way more concerned with afk in bitterfrost and other visible areas).
As to why, that’s easily answered. Everytime people think they can get away with gaining something without effort, some will take that route. Just as most businesses (refering to gold farmers since those are companies making money off of those actions) will do the same to increase their illegal goods ingame.
Solution:
- harsher anti afk approach (though this will be the least effective approach)
- change of how contribution for rewards is calculated ingame (though this would hurt pet classes)
- change of how rewards are distributed ingame (probably least intrusive way to get rid of obvious afk farmers. remove all karma gain from the new maps via kills)
If dervish and ritualist should rturn I expect it to be as an elite specialisation.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

So, since they addressed the leather issue by dramatically increasing the drop rate from the leather farm, why hasn’t AFK farming disappeared? Oh, that’s right. If you allow people to gain something for nothing, people will do it. The obvious solution is to do like other games do and simply remove kill credit from enemies the player themselves didn’t contribute to in any way. Problem solved with minimal impact to players who actually play the game and earn their rewards.
With the new expansion coming up do you think they will release a new class like they did with HoT? I would love to see some of the old classes brought back in such as the Ritualist or Dervish!
While adding new classes would be nice, I can’t even think how much that will screw up the game balance. They can’t even deal with HoT powercreep and all new specs are coming in already making balancing more of a nightmare.
When all is said and done, I would rather have a better balanced game then a new class or race. I understand many players are opposite, especially those that don’t really do anything other then just outdoor style PVE or occasional fractals / dungeons, but I would really much rather see more builds viable for higher end raids, higher end WvW and higher end sPVP, then what we have now.
I didn’t played GW1 (I tried a few hours, but didn’t liked it enough to continue), so I must ask:
What were the defining features of Ritualists, Dervishes and Paragons people seems to miss so much?
that it makes every other class in the game boring to play.”

I don’t really want them to and would rather they focus on the existing classes and flesh them out some more so they can perform more roles.
If dervish and ritualist should rturn I expect it to be as an elite specialisation.
This is kind of my assumption at this point.

Rits had Spirits, ashes of various historical people as bundles you carried for various effects. Was pretty unique
Paragons used spears on land (something some people really want to come back)
Dervishes used scythes (again something people really want to see come back as its own weapon class and not just a crappy staff skin)
I could see them brought back as elites like Pax said way before I’d see them bringing them back as entirely separate classes for many many reasons. (I’d imagine ranger maybe rev would get rit, guardian would get paragon, and necro would get dervish because scythes, or possibly thief because medium class? or ranger if rev took Ritualist? no one else really fits)
I keep holding out hope we’ll eventually just get some new weapon types, but unless they give every new weapon to all classes inevitably it’ll be a storm of why didn’t X class get Y weapon?! (the down side of waiting so long to add any new ones in the first place)
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
Anet. Already. Said. Elite. Specs. Are. The. Future. We have 3 heavies, 3 lights and 3 mediums PROFESSIONS now, THEY. WILL. NOT. ADD. ANY. MORE.
There won’t be a new profession with the expansion. Anet said so a while back, and there’s no reason not to believe them in this.
I hope for neither since they still havent balanced the complete kittening mess HoT elites brought to WvW – in fact they’ve only managed to break it even more with such genius changes like deathly chill.
Unfortunetly we already know all the classes get a new elite spec thats probably gonna kitten WvW over again.

The farming didn’t disappear because this change didn’t address the actual problem, which is that you need ridiculously high amounts of leather to craft anything, far more than what you get from normal gameplay. If people didn’t need to farm so much leather to craft anything, then fewer people would be farming it period, and there would consequently be fewer afk farmers.
Is that what the Bitterfrost (and other map) farmers are farming? Leather?
Doubt it beyond everyone getting another elite specialization. It’ll break symmetry.
RIP City of Heroes
New classes are cool but look at rev, anet has proven they are incepable of properly balancing their game.
If you look at when the game came out you could see that they had 3 light and medium armour classes but only 2 heavy, kinda like they planned Rev from the start.
Besides another class would just be another unbalanced class on a pile of unbalance and we all know that new specs are going to ruin balance again.
They got their 9 classes now, i doubt that they will release a new class. I also think its better for the game if they only release elite specs for now, and keep their focus on other stuff.
Since Revenant is still buggy AF since it never got out of BETA phase, no. Maybe we get some bugfixes with new expac. Ye, I always have the hope up. Just fix what is bugged, then add something.

I really hope they do a thorough bug fixing this time, but somewhat I doubt it.
After all, Engie was buggy years before Rev, and is still buggy today…
