New Gemstore Gear
Town clothes/costumes seriously need to become a layer you can wear over your armor soon!
The tech is surely there – this can only be on Anet’s part not willing to do it – and if it’s because it breaks with immersion / lore that I’ve seen before, I’ll direct you to all the other fluff they’ve already put in the game that breaks it beyond a point that town clothes ever could… bows shooting unicorn trails, popgun rifles, princess wands, SAB, etc.

That is what makes me sad. I don’t understand why they even make town clothes at this point lol. If it is money they want then new armor skins is the way to go.
Just do0n’t buy them.
I agree, I was like wow cool new armor looks. Mad it was sad to read “town clothing” No one use town clothing. Sometimes I don’t understand whats going through ArenaN head
Yeh and the gems stores that get updated so frequently and take all the love instead of other more important issues.
Just do0n’t buy them.
Awful solution. The issue is that they look great and people want to buy them, but they’re worthless being town clothes and not armor. Not buying them doesn’t solve the problem for anyone.
Quite frankly, I don’t understand the town clothes. Seeing someone rocking their town clothes in LA is extremely rare (for me). We work so hard to put together that perfect set of armor…why would I rather don riding pants and a vest? And to make a set of townclothes that look so armor-esque is just plain mean lol. That skull mask!

How is this not Armour?
Seriously?
Look at it!!
my Necro is crying in a corner now
Whilst I appreciate that there are some people who will love to wear these outfits for costume brawls, etc, I do wish we could have more town clothes for RP purposes.
I would happily spend a small fortune on them.
Just do0n’t buy them.

how does the executioner outfit look?

It looks waaaay too good to be a town outfit. kitten you AN
One problem though — the armor is all one piece. You get the outfit, the face paint, and the staff. So you can’t ditch the spiky shoulders and just wear it as a normal tunic.
The Executioner has more pieces but no pants, so you are stuck with the large skull at your navel.
Tested on male human.
Eh, I just consider it as part of an ongoing effort by ANet to save me from frivolous purchases.
Make as costume I can wear in combat: buy
Make as town clothes that I will never use: don’t buy
My pocketbook thanks you ANet.
I don’t see why they don’t just make them work the way costumes did in GW1. You could wear those over your armor and play like normal, with the exception of pvp. Costumes were always shut off in pvp, which I’m ok with.

lol that is one way to look at it because I would soooo buy every set if they were armor skins.
Anet should have made both the bloody prince and executioner sets as armor. They’re way too nice looking to be just worn in town.

In GW1they had skins that worked as both town clothes and armor! That was great!
I would have doubtlessly bought at least two of those outfits were they armor skins. No point in me wasting money on town clothes.

I believe alot more folks would’ve bought these skins if they were armor skins rather than town clothes. I’ve heard several guildies echo your viewpoint and I am pretty much in the same boat.
Alternately, if they aren’t going to be made available to wear over armor as was an option in GW1, then since they’re JUST town clothes and have limited functionality, couldn’t the price at least be reduced? 700 gems seems a tad bit much for a town clothes outfit and folks might be more willing to part with, say, 250 gems for a town outfit … I’d certainly be more inclined to consider spending 250 gems on a town outfit, but at 700/outfit? Yeah … not so much …

While we’re talking about selling skins, I wish they sold all of their costumes as parts. I don’t want to wear an entire pre-made suit but some pieces would work really well and would totally be worth 100-200gems each.

I like the part where the executioner outfit has a toy two handed axe…which people have wanted as a new weapon since release.
For those that want this for armor, it’s not gonna happen, with reason. The game devs want classes to have distinct appearances for armor weight. Having a light armor toon wearing heavy armor looking town clothes in PvP/WvW is not gonna happen.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
More armor skins please! Still hoping they’ll bring back the Mesmer FoW armor from GW1.
Or hoping they finally introduce this armor:
Sorrow’s Furnace
Town clothes almost look too good to be town clothes the bloody prince outfit looks good on my necromancer not so much on my guardian how I would love to have a sexy outfit for my female guardian but if they are going to keep making town clothes I won’t buy them I want skins
Just wanted to say that I am sad that they are town clothes… oh so sad
They even look like armor
More kittening town clothes? What portion of the player base even uses them?
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

Wait….really?
Well then why the heck didn’t they do the same thing here in the next game???
/facepalm
I too woulda bought all three costumes for cold hard cash in a heartbeat if they weren’t sold as useless townclothes.
Would be interesting to see how much money these make them over, say, the Aetherblade/Brahm’s/Primal sets for the first month they’re released.

that armor has haunted me for a long time indeed, I second that

Bloody Prince/Witch outfits = Light armor
Executioner outfit = Medium armor
Mad King outfit = Heavy
Not very difficult to see which armors would fit each class best.

Across all characters, you have played for 1299 hours 2 minutes over the past 423 days. In this time you have spent roughly 1 minute 30 seconds in town clothing.
:)

-Total War: Warhammer
-Guild Wars 2
I really wish they would scrap the Town Clothes bit and turn it into a Ward Robe area that way you could look like what you want to look like in the wardrobe slots but still have your armor slots have the stats
could still make it work with Transmutation Stones

Both Terra and GW1 have the same system. It works because people are happy with the ability to actually use clothes in regular game play and people are more likely to buy them because they are happy.
(Note both systems use cotume slots to place the items in and didn’t require you to skin items, locking you to one set of armor, on one character)
I’d suspect they would not only sell far more clothes items with the system that they themselves used a game before, but would have more freedom to create items that didn’t need to be a whole set or could create things like the outfits that are one piece and frees them from clipping problems when mixed with other armor.
As it is, it seems like the only people who actually buy town clothes do it for the brawl items or as a way to show they have money to burn on something that can’t even be used in combat.
I’m more than happy to throw gems at armor. No way will I spend gems for townclothes.
I was not at all interested in buying any of these costumes until I previewed a video showing off their ability sets.
Now I will be getting not one but two. Mad king costume for the food table and jokes and Witch costume for the pot skill. The other skills are cool too, like the bat one for the witch.
It will be fun to have the ability to use these costumes in combat, but, at least for me, not at the expense of their ability sets.
