New Legendaries and Materials
Probably no one will know untill we get there because economy/market is a fine balance and should be preserved. Some things if they are revealed can cause alot of problems and I am sure Anet will try keep to the impact of HOT to economy to minimum. If they would reveal anything , even a hint, you can expect that in 12 hours all specific item/resource to instant dissapear from market, creating a huge demand and low supply, leading to insane prices, leading to huge destabilisation.
As for your supplies, keep some decent stock , use some that exceeds. If the HOT hits around Octomber, you will have plenty of time to replenish what you spend. Someone can hoard as much:D

T6 will likely remain how they are, they are just too easy to acquire for them to spike in value, metals could spike and I personally know a few people who made stockpiled certain metals over a year ago when they announced new ascended mats that would have some “future” use.
Create a guild, invite no one, invest on the vault and fill it with materials if you’re running out of space. Be patient. We don’t know what changes will come to legendary crafting and gift of metal is a huge investment to gamble, you might (will?) regret crafting it if you’re not gonna use it.
We do know that there will be some changes at least – the fractal change blog info mentioned that the new ascended salvage materials (balls of dark energy and stabilizing marices) will be necessary components for crafting of new legendaries. Given that, i’d be very careful about crafting any partial components beforehand.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The new legendarys will most likely beside the collection items also cost normal t6 materials simply because the market needs a sink and legendarys fill that role. For the new legendary backpiece Im assuming we will need t5-t6 leather/cloth/ore and infuse that with the dark balls from salvaging ascended as one component (personally stockpiled 100k+ of both leathers). Also keep your ore for ascended salvaging, its totally naive to think you will get deldrimor steel or bolt of damask out of those things instead of lump of mithrillium etc because the stuff we salvage now also doesnt give us bolts or ingots. got 4k of silver/plat ingots and 2k gold ingots simply because Ive got too many rings. Got 5 stacks of exquisite chrysocola jewels as well since they are dirt cheap while containing an ecto if I had to craft it myself for JC 400-500.
My best bet and tip for you is:
If you are not in need of the money, and want some head start onto the new things coming out, save every material you get. From shards/t1 mats to lodestones/t6.
I am sure that most part of the mats necessary will be new mats (Such as dark energy got from salvaging ascended). But I am also sure that we will need other old materials, in a form similar to the ascended actually.
I don’t think Anet will tell us what is needed for the new Armor/Legendary’s as it would cause a massive market shift, and it would allow some people / guilds to dominate the market prices.
Hoard everything.
Mats already have a lot of demand, the demand for materials required by new legendaries is going to skyrocket when people find out which mats those are going to be.
Partly because people are going to want to buy them up asap, and partly because speculators are going to also want to buy it all up knowing the prices are going to go up drastically, especially due to their own mass purchases.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

I’m just selling everything, I don’t trust the market. If they come up with new material the price of everything we currently have will drop.
That is a fair point, they’re extremely fond of finding ways to make saved mats/currency useless for new stuff to prevent people from blasting through it too fast.
So it’s possible we won’t need a lot of the old stuff, though I imagine some of the standard components, like Gift of Metal will be needed, right?
Historically speaking its also normal to add massive demand for existing mats without any thought for how expensive its going to make them without a bump in supply.

My guess is that the Gift of Mastery and Fortune will be required for new legendary weapons. They may still follow the core gifts (wood, metal, energy) for the legendary gift but the other specific to the legendary will probably be much different. I can see them using something else in place of dungeon tokens.

They will become easier to acquire if the beta’s and open world rewards revamp was any indication.
i appreciate all the info, ill just hoard everything :P
I’m just stockpiling everything I can get my hands on and put a hold on all crafting until the expansion is release with the exception of things like Bolts of Damask (Over 100 now) and the other ascended mats. I started farming and stockpiling the day the expansion was announced. If I were to sell my entire stockpile of mats right now I could probably pull together about 5K.
So i have a TON of iron ore and im wondering what i should do….. should i make gift of metal
Just FYI Iron ore is not used in Gift of Metal at all.
I’m hoarding everything I can get my hands on, even if it seems to be at a decent selling price. Because I have so many characters I tend to toon hop and grab rich ore nodes in a handful of locations which helps a bit. Getting the watchwork mining pick was a good investment.
So long Treeface.
“…Kormir? I know not of whom you speak.”
I envy that iron ore. I seem to be perpetually low on iron, soft wood, and linen for making daily ascended mats. Not that I’m buying it on the TP but if you were to sell it I am sure many people would buy it and you’d make money.
