I just don’t get it…

I am curious to know if you’re serious, or just joking about. Bifrost is in no way serious. It’s been renamed by MANY as the “rainbow d*ldo”

and tho frostfang can be taken a little more serious than others its still a gag gift type of weapon. But if thats the only two you choose to compare from then, you must see some kind of pattern there. If its not anets intentions on making it that way, they’ve done a bad job on trying to prove otherwise. Whether thats the case or not, the fact of the matter is, the legendarys that are out right now are, in fact, silly or serious and if it has a HoT alternative it is the opposite as far as being serious or silly. But i suppose we’ll just have to see, but let me say if the new ledgendary dagger comes out and its a quaggin squirting water out of its bum at lightspeed, i believe i’ll have proven my point.

I mean, some people might call Bifrost a rainbow kitten, but that’s their lack of maturity/creativity and not the actual design of the weapon, which is rooted in actual Norse mythology.

Also, this just in, there is no way to satisfy everyone. Taste is hugely subjective, and legendaries require enough time and enthusiasm that it behooves Anet to cast a wide net with their designs in the hopes that, in the end, there’s something to appeal to just about everyone.

Versus a branch with a spirit wrapped around it. Yeah, that’s totally serious brah. I mean how epic is that branch when you’re on a thief critically hitting a mob every time with tiny to giant proportion birdies flying in an arc. I keep waiting to see if that raven drops a deuce on my shoulder as I run about.

Mind you, I made both, they both are great looking weapons.

The only real “joke” weapons IMO are:

Quip (a party with every burst, great aura though)
Dreamer (who doesn’t like killing things with ugly one horned mules? & tramp stamp)
The Minstrel (4 coc- roosters… nice effects though next focus decides if I make this)
Shooshadoo (a quaggan in a fish tank yup a joke legendary but I’m still gonna make it)
Moot (great effects though, those footfalls are awesome on asura very techno~ish)

I really have difficulty seeing how people could think that rainbow = humoristic. It fits a certain aesthetic, maybe not yours, but for some people it fits.

Ok, it’s not necessarily humorous. But rather one weapon is more light hearted (Bifrost – shiny with rainbows) and the other is less so (Nevermore – a Raven – creatures of ill repute – bearing the same name as that dark poem by Edgar Allan Poe).
My guess is that Kudzu will be the light hearted of the two legendaries.

I love my Bifrost and I’ll love my Shooshadoo once I make it. Great job on the shield.

I do get that some people like cute or silly weapons, and that is fine, also yes you could try to see a pattern tho i doubt there really is an intentional one there. You could see patterns in lots of things if you want to, it has driven people mad :P

In my opinion this ‘weapon’ is a new low in what the designers find funny / cute, okay ill admit that the quaggan hats are funny and cute too if you put them on an asura, but they are taking it way too far. Quaggan arn’t that cute, in the 4 years I play they keep pushing the quaggan merchandise to us, and I rarely see someone actually wearing anything quaggan related.

I guess it just puts me off seeing that they actually took the time and created this weird monstrosity and that I now play a game where you can have a weird looking fish tank with a ‘cute’ quaggan as a legendary weapon. I mean if we are going that direction I have some ideas as well, for instance, look at saints row, lots of fun stuff can be taken from there too.. hell give me that giant pink d…o as a gs and I’m happy, funny right? … exactly.

A legendary weapon is serious business to make and it’s top tier; Therefore I expect nothing less then an epic piece of weaponry… There is honestly nothing epic about a fish tank, it’s just plain stupid… I know that’s just my opinion…. but I think they should have community submissions and community voting on the best legendary ideas to keep the majority happy. And sure we can do a female / male style pattern, I fully support an even balance there. But i’m pretty sure i’m going to like the outcome of polls and votes much better then many silly legendaries Anet comes up with.

Sorry but no, artists are artists, they are supposed to have their own style, and not just do “what the majority wants”. If “the majority” doesn’t like it, it might as well find another game.

I was going to say the same, i don’t fine Kudzu to be a gag weapon. But lets just say if the next legendary long bow comes out as something that’s just off the wall ridiculous, no one cannot say theres a pattern? My thing is, you’re killing 2 birds with one stone, or in this situation 2 legendaries. You please 2 sides of the spectrum, the players that play more serious and go for a “professional” look, and ones that just like to be silly, and/or annoying cough Dreamer cough. With this said why WOULDNT Arena not do it to this pattern. Anyways i suppose the reason i originally commented was to tell the OP that theres joke weapons then theres serious ones. If the quaggen pee tank isnt your style, you have a sleeker more professional looking shield for compensation.

And on the topic on Bifrost. Lord have mercy, i suppose we all have a different opinion. My opinion on the matter is, fine you wanna say Bifrost isn’t a joke weapon, you want to take it out of the picture thats your opinion. But you look at guild wars 2 as a whole, and you see a staff like that, it just doesnt belong there. lol but thats just me. It’s like having a crayon box, and seeing a lead pencil mixed in with the rest. To some it looks like a crayon, but to me… its a freaking pencil in a crayon box.

Firmly disagree. This is a game. Why not have some fun? We aren’t playing Dark Souls or anything. This business isn’t that serious. Legendaries take a long while to make but they don’t have to be that serious either.

I haven’t made Quip yet but it’s probably the first legendary I’m going to craft, because FUN…and if not Quip, I will probably make The Dreamer to go along with my rainbow unicorn PvP finisher. Folks tend to take PvP just as seriously as you take your legendaries, and I like to bring a little lightheartedness into that realm by stomping people down with a big, loud unicorn who has my guild emblem tattooed on his butt and farts a rainbow out behind him as he leaps away into the sky with a whinny.

I think you misunderstand the objection. There are plenty of funny and cutesy things in GW2, that is not the issue. The issue is that these weapons are called “Legendary” weapons. If Anet wanted to take all of the silly Legendary skins and make them regular skins, I wouldn’t care at all. However when I think “Legendary” weapon, I think Excalibur. Something I have to quest for that comes from greatness.

That is why some of us are expressing the opinion that the silly skins cheapen the idea of “Legendary”. IMO, in GW2 the word “Legendary” is meaningless.

I get where you’re coming from but I guess I just don’t understand why “Legendary” can only refer to some ultra serious looking or “tough guy” skin. I honestly think that even the so-called cutesy or silly legendary skins are pretty epic. The Dreamer is awesome! It shouldn’t be demoted to a “regular” skin simply because it has a few silly effects.. those effects are what make it legendary to me.

I dunno. We’re playing a game. It doesn’t have to be totally bonkers or ridiculous in its off the wall humor, but it doesn’t all have to be snooze-fest serious or suit-and-tie prestige all the time. I like that Anet takes a middle ground stance on these designs and as another poster said, casts a wide net to appeal to a greater variety of players.

As with anything in this game, if you don’t like the new skin, you don’t have to get it.

Also: A lot of players like Quaggans. A lot of players don’t. There will never be 100% agreement on their likeability.

The only serious/silly weapon I find difficulty with is Kudzu.
Depsite it being flowery its still serious, not to mention how great it looks with Sylvari. The crafting line seems to be you studying nature magic via plants and magical nature places to craft a weapon similar to Caladbolg.

Although I can’t wait to see what they come up with for silly greatsword.
