I study those pictures and I took the poll and… I can’t help but get the feeling like Lion’s Arch, especially from the picture below, is looking like it’s reconstruction was greatly inspired by the fallen land of Orr. Anyone else get this feeling as well?

Someone suggested it was much more in keeping with Vabbi and Istan. I can see their point.

I can see the Orr influence in that art you posted though. I imagine it’s a deliberate tribute to it’s former glory

I think that’s just a repurposing of salvaged Breachmaker pieces, myself

Yes the arches give a bit of an Orrian vibe. I can also see the Elonian influence in it as well (all that white sand and bright blue pools in the concept art).

I like the general concept thus far, but we’ll see what the final product looks like.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Vabbi and Instan? Call me nuts but… I don’t feel a reminder of those two cities in the reconstruction art. It’s got that hole circle thing or… half circle motif to it… and if some sure ever forget what a circle looks like.. head down to Malchors or Cursed Shores… lol

I honestly hated the design of the previous lions arch, built from ships as it was, though I understand lore wise why they were implemented, the city always looked so trashy to me, like a human-sized skritsburge, where the five races collected their junk. Im so glad that city burnt to the ground.

What they are planning to build now however, looks much more appropriate, making use of the advanced technology, superior materials, and architectural marvels brought on through the collaboration of the five races, creating a city that is somewhere between scifi and fantasy, which is really the games two core genres. Im excited to see the finished art piece!

Okay, if the picture below is what some of you meant my Elonian influence… I can sorta see that. Specifically Vabbi… but the first thought when I seen the picture below was – They making LA in a waterpark now? Are they gonna charge admission at the gate with discounts to children and senior citizens? It… lmao, it totally game across to me like a spa or… totally reminded me of my trip to Cancun in 2004.

All in all though, it’s a MUCH much better improvement on the city as oppose to what it looked like before Scarlet attacked.

Given that it started as a pirate haven, the trashy look kinda fit. I do like the thought of the rebuilt Lion’s Arch having a more respectable look to it as the city feels like it’s grown beyond it’s roots by a great deal.

The great collapse and LA made from ship parts were two of the most intriguing areas of the game at launch.

Both paved over for shiny, monumental architecture. It feels, to me, like an overall loss of character in both of these “rebuildings”. A little less funky, a little more Disney Park.

the only thing Im unsure of when I look at this concept art, is where the homes and shops are, it looks like just one massive building… well some of the other art pieces actually show city streets though, but I cant figure out where in this giant block those city streets are supposed to be. Hmmmm, but then again, we look at this and assume it scales the entirety of lions arch, but what if this is only one building, maybe the improved fort or the new aerodome?

My hope is that they will do something like the Sea of Sorrows achievement where you could use clues from the book to find specific markers (or just stumble across them).

Something similar marking the Battle would add to the exploration factor and help tell the story of what happened, through text or cutscenes, since it is no longer playable and lost for new players who currently find the situation confusing

I am not certain this is the exact place to put this, but i’m going to take the chance it is.
we need a place for remembering Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw !!
a garden with apple trees.maybe.where its shady & cool, and maybe a a seller that sells cider,& if that’s to limited it could be a place to remember all of the orders who train us. Maybe we could put statuettes for them there & a torch, possibly. I could completely make it complicated , but i personally would like it simple, a small quite place for a gentle soul . also if you wanted to really hide it so as not to spoil it you could just say its a monument to those of the order who have fallen or something. and have something each liked represented in the garden.

I hope they do something to remember Cobiah Marriner. Even though this may not be the LA that he built it still has the idea that all races can live together.

I hate the concepts, for Lion’s Arch.

The city depicted would have looked good elsewhere.

I felt that old Lion’s Arch theme was one of the most imaginative video game cities ever made. It was one of the things that sold me on Guild Wars 2. It was a statement on just how imaginative video game art could be. As an ex-game designer, the re-purposing of ship parts was such an awesome sight, that when I first saw it, I actually shed a tear. My congratulations to the original development art direction and execution.

With that stated, I don’t mind the original being destroyed in order to tell a story, but the new concept art doesn’t as closely fit a seafaring city. I think that Lion’s Arch should have been made with a theme resembling what was there.

As someone who also bought and played the original Guild Wars, I am seeing a pattern: Make the user care about something—and destroy it. It’s a good plot device, but I worry that ArenaNet is going to run it threadbare.

I also feel this bad thing, thinking about it all, with the coming of the expansion, and ArenaNet destroying of the Seven Wonder of Guild Wars 2, like a male cat killing all the kittens to make the female more receptive of its offspring.

The thing I found interesting: Even the NPCs were worried that the ship motif would not return.

ArenaNet, you got me. I spend my money. Now, I feel bad for it. It’s not only Lion’s Arch, but so many post-game changes rotted so bad, that I find myself yearning for the game that was, and dread the expansion that I may not buy now.

Don’t worry, I suspect any non-ship-themed elements will be grumbled about in-game by NPC residents as NPC politicians trying to mess with something that didn’t need messing with, and other NPCs will counter-grumble something about needing to keep up with the times and provide protection from these modern 12th century threats.

I agree. LA made with ships, the Great Collapse, and the Zephyr Sanctum docked above Labyrynthine Cliffs were some of the most interesting places in the game. Now we have a new LA that looks like some sort of fascist capitol architecture, the shiny, sanitized Queen’s pavilion, and the Zephyr Sanctum is a smoking ruins scattered across Dry Top.

But the world can evolve!

Woohoo.

I would like more emphasis on “Pirate” style.

Concepts look like generic Human/Asuran city. Even the pre-Scarlet one had no unique flavour and never had that “pirate” theme it was supposed to have.

And add Charr artillery. Asuran sucks. Never enough Charr supremacy.
