New Player, so excited!
…majority are rude, selfish ill mannered player base. Glad I decided to swap up.
For me that’s something GW2 should hang its hat on, willingness to enforce their posted community standards. I’ve played a lot of MMOs and usually don’t get even close to tired of the games…I get tired of the rude players. There’s quite a few MMOs I’d still be playing today if the developers even faked like they were enforcing their own posted community standards.

This thread is a model for what a gaming community should be. I am so proud that you guys have welcomed Jonnyrok so nicely, and that you’ve offered a few suggestions along the way.
Thank you for demonstrating, so clearly, how this is the best gaming community on the Internet. <3 to you all.

My 2 copper: Biggest short coming of games like WoW is that they don’t have Gaile Gray. So glad to have ya back with us Gaile!
I don’t come often on the forum but i am always happy to see this “New Player” threads.
Welcome to the best gaming community you will ever encounter.
I started playing this game more than 2 years ago and i still enjoy it and i still have “OMG,THAT IS AWESOME” moments.
I can give you countless advices but i will give you only one:
Do not rush leveling to 80,there are so many details and beautiful things in this game you have to open your eyes wide.
Good Luck and again,
WELCOME!
(edit:forgot about this one…if you have questions or need help just whisper me in game)
“We are now! We are forever!”
Welcome to GW2 new players.
One thing I like about GW2 which unfortunately confuses some people is how much freedom you have in setting up your own goals. Getting to max level doesn’t have to be a boring grind and the end game doesn’t have to be one either.
There is no gear treadmill. The second best gear (Exotic) is great to use for almost all content. The best gear (Ascended) is only necessary at higher levels of the Fractals dungeon which you are never forced to do. In fact, that gear was mostly put in there as another thing people can work toward. Instead of going for best gear, you can go for a Legendary weapon, work on getting titles or achievements, fill up your wardrobe, collect minis, etc.
Players run dungeons, kill world bosses, kill each other in PvP and WvW (large scale PvP), explore the world, tackle missions with their guild, do jump puzzles, and go through the story. It’s refreshing to log into the game and say, “Today I want to do this.” Don’t be one of those people who reach max level then quit and complain gw2 haz no engame cuz no raids. lol
That said, the devs are looking into implementing raids. If they do, you can be assured it won’t come with a gear treadmill like in other MMOS. =)
This paragraph is a bit of a rant, feel free to skip it.
There’s still a grind for gear in PvE, and when you get to the end, you really have nowhere to go with it…since you’re wearing your full BiS set and unless you grind high-level fractals, nothing is really challenging anymore. If you ask me, having them release raids (which IMO should be structured like missions in the original Guild Wars to some extent) would be a really good thing. The idea being, you can get started in the “raids” with level 80 dungeon gear, and as you progress, you start to need more and more of the higher-end PvE gear and better coordination amongst teammates. That being said, raid participation should help you earn some of that gear so you’re not forced to grind out all three paths of whatever level 80 dungeon drops your set of choice, etc etc.
PvE could use “raids” which IMO should be the equivalent of the campaign missions in the original Guild Wars. Other than that, it’s all put together quite well, although it could be tied into the living story a bit better.
As for PvP, you’re handed a full set of PvP gear and boosted to the cap as soon as you step into WvW (not sure about small-scale PvP, but this system is nice). It’s pretty easy to get started in the PvP scene, even if you just started yesterday.
But like so many of the people here have said, Guild Wars gets infinitely better when you play with friends. Find a guild, settle in, and watch the story unfold.
I would say the community overall is amazing, but the community on the forums has it’s up and downs, mostly up. Sometimes things can get hairy with things being thrown at Anet when a patch hits that people don’t agree with.
It is because we love the game so much though, and usually demand perfection for something we love so much.
I hope the game eventually means the same to you as it does to me!

Crafting ascended gear is definitely a grind, but it’s a grind you can completely skip if you don’t care about high level Fractals or you can minimize greatly if you put the bulk of your AR into the trinkets which are much easier to get than weapons/armor. You can get +70 AR without needing a piece of ascended armor.
Anyway, even despite the gear grind, there is no gear treadmill which I am more worried about. I wouldn’t want all my hard work to become devalued because Anet releases something better than ascended (not counting legendary). I agree that there needs to be more challenging content in this game and I hope raids will help with that. I would be fine if raids required some ascended pieces like Fractals, but if you look at the raid CDI, it isn’t a popular idea. The agony system doesn’t seem to be well liked and the reason ascended gear is needed in Fractals is for agony resistance rather than the minor stat boost. Don’t know how they could balance the raids around ascended without the agony system. Especially considering the different gear types (zerker, soldier, knights, etc.). It’s going to be interesting to see how Anet makes raids challenging assuming they do implement raids in the first place.
League Of Ascending Immortals [OATH]
I think the community is as great as it is because the game works with a high priority on cooperation. Everything is designed so that players can’t destroy others experience. You can’t steal nodes, you can’t inspect other players, you can’t steal loot drops, you don’t roll dice on a good piece of loot, you don’t depend on single individuums like tanks or healers,…
We owe it to Anet that toxic behaviour is minimal in our game.

You obviously do not play in WvW.
I used to be a PvE player like you, then I played Guild Wars 2

This is a valid note . . . luckily it’s a bit limited in exactly how that can be done.

well at least we know that Anet works on a solution, there was a discussion about how this could be fixed here in the forums not long ago. It’s not an easy fix.
Been playing wow for 7 years, and just purchased gw2 deluxe. Im so excited to start playing. Wow community just isnt there no more, majority are rude, selfish ill mannered player base . Glad I decided to swap up.
GW2 community is by far one of the best around. A lot of people are very helpful, and majority of the content in game is designed so you work together. The more people the funner stuff gets. Although I would try to avoid gemstore purchases starting out. However since this game is free to play, whenever you see those gathering tools up for same (1,000 gems each) They are for mining, harvesting, and logging. I would get them right away, as they don’t stay up for long. Although first purchase you should make should be for the copper fed salvage-o-matic, and trust me on that. It IS worth it.

Well, technically it is an easy fix. It’s just there’s a hesitation to arm people with banhammers and make them police the players actively.
. . . which, mind you, is what I see as the only effective solution.

you realize that there are a lot of guilds in this game?! Giving players the power to ban other people and welcome vigilantism would lead to chaos soon.
