New Raid & Experience Progression
How are spirit shards progression?
How are spirit shards progression?
It’s not just the shards it’s the fact that you’re gaining experience from doing something but it goes no where. It’s just something you don’t see in an MMO and makes no sense. Even when you reach level cap in other games, you can always gain progression in some sense.

Well we can just request to Anet that players that don’t have all masteries maxed should not receive XP to begin with. Rewards/currency really isn’t character progression.
If just another way to acquire Spirit Shards is not progression, what difference does it make if one gains XP or not?
If dinging a level awarded something I found more useful, or didn’t get in so many other ways, I would be interested. But, as is, I’m not.
I don’t see why we would have to beat the new boss/encounter to finish the Forsaken Thicket mastery line.
You only need to beat any single part of the Raid Wings to unlock the mastery… (I managed to unlock it by doing the Stronghold of the Faithful escort…) Once it’s unlocked, you can finish the entire mastery line without ever stepping foot in the Raids again.
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’

I think that suggestion would only serve to upset players more. Remember the majority of players don’t raid. As for your second point (spirit shards —> gold --> buy mats —> craft ascended --> progression —> win?)

Perhaps you misunderstood my opening paragraph (or it was badly worded). What I am trying to say is we are probably getting a new mastery line so we will have to do an encounter in the new raid “Bastion of the Penitent” to continue gaining experience/spirit shards.
I have nothing against raiding, as I already have full mastery at the moment. But it’s the system I have an issue with, because not everyone raids and it doesn’t feel right to block something that was there since the game began.

It’s a reward for maxing all masteries.

Then all game loot and currencies must be progression too. Those transmutation charges are too, I guess…
Well if not seeing the XP is an issue then we can have the bar progress but they just won’t receive any spirit shards.

Not WoW. Not BDO, in any significant way, given that the lvl 68 to 69 gap is so big that it’s unbridged — and 70 is approximately infinity xp from 69.
Also, in many, many other MMOs the “gain progression in some sense” is “work on masteries until completed”, at which point you just … stop getting XP.
eg: your thesis is incorrect, and other MMOs do not all aware either XP, or alternate progression, at cap.
The fact that a few extra spirit shards are gated by raid masteries is an accident of two things:
- ANet originally intended that post-80 XP would have no value aside from maxing masteries.
- They changed their mind (by popular demand) to give us the nearly no-value spirit shards.
There are all sorts of existing sources and most people don’t need the spirit shards (veterans usually have more than they can spend; newbies don’t often need to spend them). So it’s more a matter of principle rather than of principal that raids be removed as a gate.
That takes more work and it seems like it’s a very low priority objective. Therefore, my guess is that ANet won’t do anything about it until we have an entirely new line of masteries, e.g. for the next expansion in 2018 (or whenever).
