Hi folks, I have been looking at a lot of the profession forums, trying to find a class that fits my play style ‘wants’ – so I will ask, and yes I have played each profession a little bit(10 or so) around launch. Quit shortly after, due to opening my own business, and am returning now to try and pick up the pieces, have a little fun, and generally waste some time throughout the day when I can.

I have played SK, Druid for many years in EQ, Paladin, priest, druid, in WoW, cleric in rift, mostly solo play .. I like to explore, find my own stuff, or make it. I prefer solo play, as my time can be very limited. I do like grouping up to do bigger things and usually do fairly well – fun > perfection to me, and my play style suggests that.

Is there a class that anyone can suggest (given my past mmo history) that might appeal to me? Ranger, Guardian, and Necromancer seem like they will .. I read the guides and get bug-eyed trying to follow the weapon-swapping rotations, etc., I am old – it has to be idiot proof

Thanks for any info

If you’re not doing instances with other people, ranger, guardian and necromancer will all work, as will warrior. Ranger is fun or frustrating because of the pets (some people just love pets). Guardians are every useful later if you do decide to group and do dungeons. With Necros, minion, power or condition builds are all possible.

Of the three guardian is probably the most popular. Ranger is going to be getting some changes soon that will make ranged combat more effective, but no one knows how good it will be till we actually see the changes and try it for ourselves.

In before the Ranger hate.
I find my Rangers to be the most all-around profession. They have to play smarter in group.

You won’t find any Crusader class here. My EQ2 SK can do anything.

Out of curiosity, why is a ranger more all round than say a guardian?

For me, Guard lacks an effective ranged skill and ranged weapon. Not that they terribly need one.

I do not like staff weapons either. Personal thing, heavies with staff just annoy me.
It’s a bathrobe and finger wiggler tool.

You have 5 spots to play with, all of them are useful. I really enjoy ranger myself and it has taken me a very long time to enjoy necro. Guard I really want to enjoy, it is light to play and can do a lot it just does not touch my interest. I do have all at 80 and play through all of them on a fairly regular basis.
