New appreciation for Dry Top
same here, I never really got into Dry Top or knew what to do there, but want to get into it now that there’s more ppl.
One question…what happens when you hit Tier 6?

The prices of all the items purchesable with Geodes become very cheap.
Both Dry Top and Silverwaste is a “new generation” of the GW2 maps, having more involvement than any other map. IMO they are what GW2 advertised even before release but failed to truly deliver (cursed shore is the only zone that came close and even then it was a little too static, there’s no real take/retake mechanic like in Silverwaste). Only “problem” is of course that they are small compared to a normal GW2 map.
I’m hoping that HoT will introduce even better endgame zones.
I watched some gameplay of Dry Top last night as I haven’t been there yet (new-ish player), and it seems that one thing is for certain, I can count on a lot of deaths by falling!

Yeah it’s sad that this is literally the only way to get people into dry top. Personally I hate that map and think it’s a totally stupidly designed confusing mess.

Oh, good, so I’m not the only one who finds its layout utterly arbitrary and difficult to get around. It’s a shame that I feel compelled to con my guildies into going in order for me to care about that misshapen mess at all.

After seeing the very poor and confusing design of silverwastes and drytop, I’m honestly afraid for HoT. I have a very firm feeling it’s going to equally as confusing and take me like 3 months to figure out how to get around. Hell I still haven’t figured out how to get to part of silverwastes.
I like the concept of the Dry Top as an anti-zerg map. However between a really strange layout and the fact that a 10 person semi-afk zerg can ruin all the effort by simply coming to a wrong event and scaling it is really annoying.

I actually like the Silverwastes map. It’s flat enough to get around, and the dynamic events keep things moving along. The Skritt tunnels give the players motivation to attend to map events, though I wish those tunnels were better marked for their destinations.
Dry Top also has the 20-minute slag that is the only time I can cash in chest keys, of which I have several but can’t use. The Dry Top layout is what scares me about HoT, because the jungle maps are supposed to be multi-tiered, which means mapping it is going to be a humongous chore, unless the map tool itself has several layers, like they do in cities; Rata Sum and the Grove, especially.

I’ve been to dry top and it just seemed like a giant jumping puzzle. Hadn’t gone to silverwastes till this weekend and it was confusing at first but I do like actually being rewarded to defend something unlike wvw ;-)

That is only an issue during the sandstorm.
Though there is one spot that makes me think “who is the jerk that put this hole here?” every time I run by.
The gameplay concept behind DT and SW are good overall, and really how I think most maps should be. Especially with GW2’s quest and event mechanics, having maps build up and degrade based on events. However with DT the map itself is so poorly designed and confusing it makes people utterly despise it.
SW on the other hand is a decent mix, the map could be done abit better, but really once you get it explored it is actually quite simplistic(outside of the far north part). The only thing I would change about SW is having bandit chests only spawn during timeout, but thats more a personal beef then a flaw.

I think it’s actually the opposite of everything GW2 advertised before release. They’re repetitive, grind-based maps in which players lack agency and with a strong lack of polish (geodes and crests are new currencies and yet cannot be added to the wallet, despite how the wallet was created exactly to hold currencies).
The “it’s your story” thing from before release? Not really, Dry Top will continue repeating over and over no matter what you do. “We don’t want players to grind”? Apparently it’s all they want players to do, since there’s little else to do at both Dry Top and Silverwastes. “Fun, unique events”? Silverwastes is basically a copy-paste of the same fortress in four different places of the map, with the same couple events repeating over and over until a Breach happens.
It’s probably the new direction GW2 will go, but it, just like the beta, is clear with the message “if you are not a grinder, don’t bother coming here”.
