Hopefully ArenaNet can take the blown opportunity in the personal story and turn it around here to give the game some narrative depth. I’m not holding my breath though. If these past updates like lost shores and the guild missions fiasco are any indication, this Razing will crash and burn as well. No pun intended. If these past content updates are even slightly indicative of the quality ill be shelling out for for paid expansions, i think i’ll just be really upset. So far, it just seems that Anet misses the mark entirely on what players want to see in this game and what it really needs. More depth, less grind, more reason to play with other people in meaningful ways, etc. Hopefully the game won’t stay this premature forever. Some things, especially combat need a good, long, hard looking-at if this game wants to stay competitive.

I disagree.

So far the first two steps of Flame & Frost have featured some light content, appropriately building up for the next ones (such as this one which seems a little bigger). I think it’s great they are implementing a side storyline for everyone to do, regardless of how far you are in the “main” one.

Also, something troubles me greatly : the whole concept of a MMO is to farm and “grind” as you say to get better gear to kick kitten and/or for personal achievement. Seriously, literally. So why does everyone keep complaining that this game is too “grindy” when in fact it’s not? And when it facts it offers so many more possibilities and allows you to play the game in so many different ways?

There’s grind, definitely. But it’s smart grind and it’s really much more pleasant than in WoW. So please, stop making up stuff, all of you who say the same.

Sps Don’t bother with this Dude. read some of his old post, he may not be a “troll” but its clear he dosn’t like this game and in some way he wants to impose that feeling on every one.

Alright… people asked (at least a certain vocal minority) for some bits of vertical progression → we got Ascended Gear, others didn’t ask for it, but some did
People asked for large group content, something for BIG guilds to do, Anet gave us Guild Missions which is an excellent way for big guilds to play together.

I don’t see them missing the mark as much as you do. Sure their choices annoy a part of the community, but another part asked for the them, now which one is bigger or has the majority, we simply don’t know and can never be sure.

Whether you agree with this guy or not he does have a point when it comes to staying competitive. WoW isn’t the only other player on the market now. There’s a lot of new games coming from over the horizon. While GW2 has the edge right now in terms of combat, the dynamic level system, dynamic events, the living story (we’ll see if it truly does live up to its potential), etc. we don’t know what the competitors will have in store.

MMOs that start out not grindy become grindy once a player runs out of existing content to run. They start to focus on a set group of tasks or area to farm until new content comes along, aka grind. Dailies just provide a set of shifting goals to provide a bit a variety to the grind. On the flip side putting timers on chests also force people to NOT hit the same content repeatedly.

The biggest problem with new content is it takes months to design and days, if, to exhaust. Then back to the grind.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

RIP City of Heroes

Oh no, not you again! XD

Joking aside, Lost Shores was by far the lowest point in the game, but the updates thereafter have shown real promise. There is yet to be a flawless update, but stating as a fact that there isn’t going to be one is just ridiculous.

Sure, ascended items still need to spread out and have more accessibility, and I still feel exotics should have a place in the game, rather than being mere stepping stone in the form of throwaway gear.

Guild missions are also a bit flawed as it stands. I just think it had issues that ANet couldn’t have seen until it was implemented for the masses. However, there’s real potential in guild missions and when the problems are rectified, it will become a strong part of the game.

From the start I’ve said that I will give the game a year, it’s a lot of leeway for the game to grow and really find itself. Six months in, things are looking rather promising.

P.S. Your title is very deceptive. I honestly thought it was going to be a discussion about the new NPCs, but you made a vague reference to the living story in your first sentence sentence before you started talking about past failures. This thread has nothing to do about the new characters.

Secondly, your wall of words is very unpleasant to the eye. The paragraph is your ally.

Why does this read as a thinly veiled ‘roles add depth because of no reason’ post, rather than an actual discussion about the character who was unveiled?

As for grind: GW had quite a bit of grind as well, but you seemed to enjoy that game:

  • Grinding books and whatnot for Title Tracks
  • Grinding for materials or Platinum for fancy armour
  • Running the same places over and over for a chance to get a certain skin

On an on-topic note:

  • I hope we have that hairstyle for Norns
  • I wanna see what the Charr guy looks like
Life is a journey.

Agreed that the title should just be changed to “More GW2 Bashing.” I don’t see anything that needs discussing in the actual content of his post.
