So i’m planning to start a new character and will focus more on pvp with it, I’m currently thinking between the Thief and Mesmer. What do you guys think is better and funner in pvp? Feel free to suggest as well!

Thanks

Mesmer. Thief gets nerfed a lot and right now isn’t a desired class for PvP as it’s only role can be outdone by many classes. Mesmer is also less difficult to play.

I’m only here because sometimes I just like to watch things burn.

These are two classes that I just recently created and for me it depends on how you want to play. My thief is pure DPS and stealth so he can change a fight real fast by doing MASSIVE DPS but if your not quick on your feet 3 hits from almost any other class and your down quick! Zoso Watch Out which is my thief character name uses dual wield pistol and daggers with many stealth skills and life regeneration while ins stealth so that is the survivability part of that build. Mesmer I am still working on it so far I have him use clones with high health and decent DPS he can tank a bit better then my thief but its a test build so ill have to come back to you on that one.

New characters have no traits and skills even if you are buffed to level 80.

Which do you find more enjoyable late game? and also which is more dominant at dealing quick bursts then getting out? My preferred gamestyle is going in then hop out if I cant kill the foe then back in lol

New characters have no traits and skills even if you are buffed to level 80.

This only applies to WvW and Fractals, not PvP.

Personally I like the Thief for that style of gameplay (Massive DPS then run out of combat and repeat). Mesmer can do the same if you build them properly a guildie helped me out today with a good DPS Mesmer build but if your looking to go in high DPS then leave again I think thief will be a safe bet. Thief have low hp when you build them DPS focused but with stealth you can run in and out of combat fairly easily while gaining any hp that you might have lost. I will put my personal Thief DPS build here to help you out! The way I see it is GW2 is not mainly about what build you have but HOW you play the class. Of course a viable build is a must but no need to be so secretive about builds. Well except my main which is MM that one has a special place in my heart so can’t give that one out :P <3 Necro MM! Also note this Thief build is not very forgiving if you miss one or two stealths its GG so be careful!

Thief DPS/Stealth
Dual pistols/daggers
4/4/6/0/0
III-X/V-IX/I-VIII-XI
Sigil of Acc/Force
Rune of Eagle
Amulet of assassin
Hide in shadow/blinding powder/signet of agility/shadow refugee/basilisk venom

This is a sPvP build but you can sync it with PvE or WvW. Feel free to tweak it to fit your playing style GLHF!

P.S When using this build id recommend you use dual pistol skill [Unload] once enemy hp is below 50% go in with daggers and [Heartseeker] FTW! Also note when your in stealth your weapon skill 1 with dual pistols shots out a burst so id recommend for example, Stealth then use [Vital Shot] (skill 1 in dual weapons) which will do a burst since your in stealth then [Unload] so you get good DPS while saving initiative.

P.P.S For help with builds the sPvP part of the forums is a great way to learn.

(shameful plug) I created a guild for WvW and sPvP if you’d like to join your more then welcomed it is a new guild but with high hopes. We focus on helping each other with builds and sparring sessions so we together as a guild can be more effective on the battle grounds. No rep % req and WvW is optional we are laid-back but would like to be heavy in the competitive scene in the future so new and experienced players welcomed.
