New class
yes, but no idea when. looks more and more like 2015

There’s been no indication that a new class will ever be added to the game, in 2015 or otherwise.
They have to play that card carefully if they do at all. Not many MMOs have pulled that off seamlessly, even when coupled to expansions with lots of additional content.
Honestly, I’d see them adding races before adding classes as a racial addition requires a lot of art/voices and possibly a new zone, but not a whole lot of “balancing” in regards to the way the game plays now. A Skritt warrior might have skill point skills that involve “shinies”, but the rest of the balance “should” be comparable to a human or charr.
They had to SPAWN MORE OVERFLOWS!
A new race is actually even harder to make because of the fact you’d have to create new animation rigs for an entire race, not to mention new VA scripting, new quest zones and hubs, new personal story updates, new facial models and skin models that takes ‘ages’ to add in comparison to a class.
Balance is actually easy, because its all down to scripting alterations, altering numbers and adding a few new VFX, as well as some new animation rigs but otherwise, the combat plays out the same.
IF they add a new class, it will be a heavy armor class, specially given they already have 2 of those and 3 of the others.
I would suspect it will either be the “dark knight” stereotype class, in the form of some quasi-evil class that does good through brutality and dark magic (similar to Necro but with armor) or some kind of tech based class, or a Mage in armor, perhaps like the Chronomancer.
Either way, there are possibilities for a new class, it seems much more likely we will get this before a new race, the devs themselves stated they are very pensive about adding one.
They are called ‘professions’ just FYI though it doesn’t really matter
2020. The year after they add all those news skills they promised.

Voice acting, skill animations, weapon and armor skins…these are all exact sciences. Class balance is not. Class balance is actually one of the most difficult challenges MMO developers face. It’s not a technical issue that can be solved by throwing programmers at it; and it’s something that, if done poorly, can have a very negative impact on the player base.

A “dark knight” would be nothing more than an almagalation of a warrior and a necromancer and the “time magic” elements of a chronomancer have been subsumed by the mesmer. For these reasons, I wouldn’t bet on either being ever being added to the game.

The developers have already stated, in no uncertain terms, that they’re far more likely to add a new race than a new class.

I imagine any new profession would be a heavy armor one. Perhaps a Dervish (well my hope anyway).
dervish is medium armor or light armor either way the armor they gain doesnt come from what they wear but from a devotion to unseen divine power, Dervish would be a pain to explain on Charr but what if they renamed it so that the class doesnt rely anymore on the might of the 6 gods? Could be renamed to Reapers or inquisitor and give them still the ability to use mighty holy magic without forcing them into the veneration of some gods.
Either way if dervish comes back we can expect stuff like enchantment and damage based on enchantment to also make a comeback (enchantments would be their actual mechanics and based on the number of active enchantment they would gain extra power) Dervish skills were seperated between scythe mastery earth prayer wind prayer and mysticism,
we could also expect a total overhaul of the transformation spells if they also start using avatars wich would likely be named avatar of nature, avatar of fire, avatar of life, avatar of death and avatar of cunning respectively replacing melandru baltazar dwayna grenth and Lyssa avatar elite spells.

I think a new class is very unlikely to happen, you can bet in new race before a new class, actually the more likely now is the unlock of weapons for the current classes.
@CaptainVanguard, a new race would only require character modeling, animation and voice work, all that are objective and only need hours of coding.
A new class involve skill balance, and new mechanics and NPCs to support that class, all that involve subjective numbers and study and creation of parts that may cause bugs in other areas, making it way more hard to implement.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Definitely a new race before class. But remember, nothing is off the table!
…and creation of parts that may cause bugs in other areas, making it way more hard to implement.
And considered we’re still plagued by bugs, I’d say this is a huge driving point.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

I know right?
And yeah, new races, classes, weapon expansion all that, if happen, will take a good while, can’t imagine any of that anytime soon.

Well many said that tengu are the most likely to appear as a new race, and you can pretty much see that all tengu npcs already have the same body model and animations as charr. Implementing them wouldn’t require too much effort from this point of view (maybe that’s a reason why most ppl anticipate them as the new race, plus their city’s walls can already be seen in Caledon forest and Kessex hills)
Apart from this however, the rest that you mentioned does take a lot of time and efort, but who knows, maybe they’ve been already working on that from the start in secret. I think it would make sense.
I think both take a lot of time to do but I see making a profession would be more complicated when it comes to balance so I would see a race coming first. Although I’d rather see a profession

I actually had an idea for a heavy armour class.
GW2 Class ideas
Changeling: Interacts with wild juvenile animals in the same way as ranger, but instead learns their forms to be transformed into. For example: the changeling interacts with a polar bear, they are then able to use F1 to transform into a polar bear, and are then able to use the 4 abilities that the polar bear pet has, along with 1 more (for slot 5). F1 can be the return button. Changes to health upon transformation are the same as the scaling from the ranger’s health to their pet’s. Some utility skills would change based on the general classification of the animal (general classification meaning porcine and avian, rather than boar and owl). Being downed would revert changeling to human. Would work the same way underwater, with different morph choices. Heavy armour (the armour upgrade over ranger is justified by the fact that, unlike ranger, they’ll be the ones taking hits, rather than their pet).
It’s pretty vague at the moment, but tell me what you think.
Why the hell would you want a new race over a new class? Race has nothing to do with evolving gameplay and is purely cosmetic.

This may have escaped you, but some people place high value in cosmetics when it comes to MMOs. This also may have escaped you, but some people enjoy the story and lore when it comes to RPGs. I might be mistaken, but I do believe Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG.

Careful with your legitimate logic, sir. You’re on the internet now.
I prefer having the same amount of races as professions. Cosmetic and “collection” play a big part. Collecting isn’t as fun if your collecting the same things, and for me I’m collecting characters 1 race per profession.~

A new Race is much harder to add. A new Class is much harder to integrate.
In other words, a new Race is a pledge to do a big heap of work right now, then be done (aside from inevitable but relatively minor bug-fixes). A new Class is a pledge to do a more modest heap of work now, and then do a steady trickle of work for the rest of the lifespan of the game.
Given their current “production effort : gem cost” ratio, where they’re charging 500 gems ($6.25 US) to give you a one-time skin that puts a colored smudge over a character’s eye, I can’t even imagine how much they’d want to charge us for a New Race or New Class.

If theres no new classes coming I dont see myself playing this much longer. Thats with no disrespect to ANET, its just… that would be so boring
