New expansions and level cap...

I’m curious how Arenanet plans to handle the rest of ascended gear, expansions, and the level cap.

The first Guild Wars produced expansions at a relatively rapid pace. Almost one a year for the first couple of years. Each expansion didn’t raise the level cap or introduce new stats (well, one kinda did but not really. The base stats remained the same and a small bonus was added to new weapons). GW2 will do things a little differently, however, in that the devs have already voiced great enthusiasm for raising the level cap with each expansion.

My concern comes with the introduction of Ascended gear, especially in its sectioned state. If they drop a handful of ascended items every couple of months, requiring substantial grinds for each one… how long until the entire set is out? And how long after that until the expansion releases and makes all that gear null and void, thus resetting our gear grind and we start over. We would literally be on a non-stop gear grind for the foreseeable future. That level of treadmill seems a bit daunting to me, to say the least.

So, I am definitely curious to see how they do this in regards to the expansion. Is the future of Guild Wars 2 now to grind grind grind for the newest, best gear? Or will they find a way to finally bring an end to the grind and return GW2 to the unique plateau that made its predecessor so loved?

Yeah, I agree. Arenanet really should tell us their plans on raising the level cap, and adding in new gear.

I don’t mind raising the level cap, but if they are going to continually adding a new tier with each add on of the game. I’m going to stop playing it.

I bought Guild Wars 2 because it wasn’t a stat grinding gear house. It was a skin grinding gear house. I rather much grind for new armor skins than grind for new stats to keep up with other players.

I’m not a mouse. I will not continue to run after a carrot that’s tied to my head with a piece of string. I also thought they would never, ever add new gear to Guild Wars 2. I AGREE with the Ascended gear, because it helps fills the gap, but I don’t want to grind for new gear for every add on/new dungeon they put into the game. I hated WoW for that, and that’s why I quit WoW, and started playing Guild Wars 2.

You know, I was never a MMORPGer. I played GW1 for 300 hours. It was really awesome cause there were challenges, it was about going out there.

Now, I understand what “Gear treadmill” means – you’re endlessly running after the best gear.

Whatever plans they have to make you upgrade your stuff, it’ll probably cost 250 ectos, 250 passion flowers, 250 blood or whatever ridiculous grind you have to go through.

Also salvage all your expensive stuff, and buy “Super Fine Transmutation Stones” (for 800 gems on the TP!) because level 90 items aren’t covered by “Fine transmutation stone” to reskin your 250 charged lodestone foefire!

Well my guess is that they would have to add new gear to complement higher levels, but I would think that they would add cheap and easy to gear as well as super rare grindy gear just so people can avoid that. I am a fairly casual player so I don’t see the point in spending a ton of time for a slight increase in stats, and ArenaNet understands that. So my guess is that they will have easy to acquire stuff that is still relevant to the content and god awful obnoxious stuff for those who are OCD.

The only way I can see them adding new tiers if they kept the drop rates as exotics, and make them craftable.

That’s the only way I will ever accept another tier in this game.
