New in Guild Wars 2
This was the only mmo I was willing to buy. I am glad I made the decision too! I never liked wow but that is just my opinion. I feel like this game has a little something for most types of players though which is nice and the events are great too.
If you are ever on Gate of Madness, hit me up and we can run some events or something haha
Welcome to the game! You made a solid decision. Just beware of spending too much time on the forums… it’s easy to get so wrapped up in discussions about what’s wrong with the game that you forget the huge list of things that are right with it. If you’re ever in Tarnished Coast and need some backup, give me a shout!
I originally bought Guild Wars (the original) because it didn’t have a monthly fee. Fell in love with the game and eagerly awaited Guild Wars 2. I tried WoW once, using their free trial thing. The graphics disappointed and being immediately in the game, someone came up and attacked then killed me. That was the end of my WoW days.
I agree with Melchior too, enjoy the game and don’t focus as much on the forums. There is a lot of anger and hostility here. The game, generally, is awesome, sure there are parts that need work but they will get there, a large portion of the forum community however, are not so awesome.
Except for picking up The Secret World after it went B2P, Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 are the only MMO-style games I’ve ever spent money on. Both have been worth the investment so far for me. Guild Wars 2 is by no means perfect, but I think it’s the best thing going right now.
Welcome to Tyria, and I hope you stick around awhile. Hit me up in-game if you ever want to run around and beat down some mobs.
Mmmh….level 3 and you already know that its worth every penny after having played….5 minutes? Bit quick in judgement, are we?
Anyway, welcome to GW2!
And yes…its worth every penny!
Now ….thats PR well done!
(thanks for the cheque btw)
Oh what am i sayin’……
Hello again you all.
First of all i wish to thank you for all the replies to my first post in GW2 forums.
I hope to enjoy this game for a very long time if not forever ;-) because the game has presented itself to me as great and very welcome fresh air to the MMO genre…in my humple opinion this games is awesome, expensive yes but once you buy it all of it it’s free, no costs buying expansions like WOW, or other games, i’m enjoying it very much.
And yes for me this game is worth every penny/cent of my wallet, i only bet in MMORPG’s, my favorite genre, and GW2 was and is a very safe and welcome bet.
I know that forums are full of negativity and positive vibe but that is an example that social philosophy is present in both real and virtual worlds, everyone has the right to they’re opinion good or bad, positive or negative or even neutral, i will continue to post here and hope the feedback from the community, and i don’t bother if it’s negative feedback, as in life not all is an ocean of tranquility…
Finally i would like to ask my first question about this game, if i’m right already 6 expansions were launched to GW2, more will come? GW2 is to end soon?
Welcome OP!
GW2 only launched 7 months ago and so far has seen no expansions- i think you might be referring to the monthly updates.
Gw2 will not end any time soon
Enjoy the game.
Thank you so much for you’re reply Morrigan.2809 and yes i confused myself, it’s not expansions but updates. Each of those 6 already added updates, what they added to the game?
And are there more updates to come? Any update soon?
And more thing, are there digital ebooks about the lore of GW2 on the internet and if there are can i obtain them for free?
Thank you so much for you’re patience.
Welcome to the game. My advice to you is stay away from here. Find a good guild, filled with people that share your play style, and ignore the naysayers. You’ll enjoy the game more with a decent guild, for sure. It’s much better to run stuff later without pugging, for one thing. For another, most people enjoy running zones a lot more with friends. And you can get all your questions answered without having to wade through these murky waters. lol
You can generally find all the news as well as patch notes for each patch here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/news
Every month usually has an update round the 26th, so yes you can expect more of them. The next one should be at the end of April
Can’t help you with the books sorry but there is a lore section on the forum here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore.
They have some interesting discussions.
Hope this helps

There is a fairly large content update every month (usually at the end of the month) where they add new stuff. Currently, the flavors of the month are the Super Adventure Box and The Living Story, but in the past they’ve added minigames, jumping puzzles, a new dungeon, new dailies and monthlies and some new currencies – among others. If you want to keep up with the changes, I recommend either joining a well-informed guild or keep doodling on the forums (though that comes with perils of its own)
There are two books available that I know of – Ghosts of Ascalon and Edge of Destiny:

Once again thank you all for the replies and patience…about those 2 books Ghosts of Ascalon and Edge of Destiny are they available for a free download?
Thank you all in advance
A.NET said starting on October the game will see monthly content updates that will keep evolving the game world. Some of this updates were seasonal holidays (and this you won’t be able to play again until the holiday comes back next year) others were one time events (that you will not be able to play but you will be able to see the consequences of the events) and the third is the living story content (kind of a story spanning several months that you can do at your own pace, but once that chapter is gone you cannot play it again). All of the updates come with new features that stay in the world and you can experience such as new zones, dungeons, puzzles, etc. The updates we have gotten are below
1. Mad King (halloween seasonal event)
2. Karka Event (one time event, Fractals)
3. Wintersday (christmas seasonal event)
4. Flame & Frost – Prelude (Living Story ch.1, QoL update)
5. Flame & Frost – The Gathering Storm (Living Story ch.1, Guild Missions Update)
6. Flame & Frost – The Razing (Living Story ch.1, WvW update)
7. Flame & Frost – ?? (??)
On regards to the books, they are available electronically on amazon for a price. I am not sure about for free, but they are worth every penny. The first one (minor plot summary)follows a group of heroes as they seek to take a relic needed for the peace treaty between the Charr and Humans the second one (minor plot summary)follows the five heroes that eventually form destiny's edge on their first adventure.
@PrimeEvil,
GW2 is a great game and glad to have you be apart of the community. On to your question about expansions/updates. They will be doing a monthly update as stated above, which will bring more content to do plus major fixes. There will be in the future expansions. But ANET has stated that they want the current build of the game to be running really well before they start on the expansions. So that means we will get some more features and areas to explore and tweak some things before that happens. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

Hello there community you’re feedback has been very helpfull and usefull…and i wish honestly a huge thank you to you all.
About the expansions i have a question, since when i bought GW2 and they say in the game box and even in several web sites we only have to buy the game once all the rest is free right? So when expansions will be launched how they will be available to players? By free download in the web site or we will actually have to spend money to have expansions?

Just like everyone MMO, you’d have to buy the expansion. Because the expansion is like a new game. Even games that charge monthly fees charge for game expansions. The amount of time, energy and work that goes into an expansion for an MMO is huge. It really is like making a whole new game.

I think that by free they meant no subscription after you buy the box and also the free monthly updates that we get.
They did say that they will be focusing more on adding to the core game for free rather than make you pay.
However they will probably bring out paid expansions on a long term basis- Not frequently but think of it as a new installment on an existing game kind of like you would have in a single player game.
Hello again…don’t get me wrong i will have no problem to pay for GW2 expansions, i already am a huge fan of this game but my point is will the expansion packs be lower in price compared to the the original GW2 game?

I have no idea – don’t rule out that you might be able to buy them with gems converted from in game gold.
This has not been confirmed at all so don’t take the speculation too seriously- it just strikes me as something they might do, like you can upgrade to the deluxe edition with gems now.
I think it will be a long time before we see a full paid expansion.
Welcome !
Fair warning: don’t get addicted to dyes ..
Welcome, feel free to send me a PM with any questions!
I have the feeling that expansions will be cheaper then the Full game, but not a lot. It isn’t going to be 19.99 for it. I think it will be around $40 or so, but this is a total guess. Nothing has be stated on how or when expansions come. As someone above me stated you may be able to convert in game gold for gems and then buy the expansion with gems. No one really knows. I think we are a good year or more away from the first expansion. They will continue to do the content every month like they are currently doing and working on the balance of the game. These types of updates is just as good as getting an expansion once a year. If you count up 12 updates a year, and just put all together it is probably a full expansion in a way.
