Why the new maps like Southsun Cove or Edge of the Mist dosen’t count for 100% world competition? The same with new PoI’s and WP’s.

Because that would negatively impact present map completion.
People ahve already hit 100%, if you add new things in their percentage would go down. So then what happens when they hit 100% again, you can’t give them more gifts of exploration…

The idea is to keep everyone on the same level and keep the achievement consistent – so everyone who has 100% map completion has had to do the same things. There’s always the possibility of new map completion achievements being added on later in the game when more zones are added.

AN can easily add option that players who got the gifts before will not receive them one more.
Old players will have to discover the new maps to get 100% without the gifts as reward
.
New players will have to travel through all maps to get the reward.

Think of it this way.

A few years down the line ANet releases a new area. Be it Elona or Cantha or a new area not before known. Doubling the Map.

Should new players have to map twice as much as new players?

My guess is they’ll come out with Been There, Done That II – Map [Insert New World here] and change the current one to Map Tyria.

Then players will get new gifts of exploration, giving players another ingredient towards a legendary.

It’s not as simple as adding in a caveat so players who previously had 100% don’t get more Gifts of Exploration. All of that takes extra code which has to be put in game and has to be interpreted by the game.

I know something like that SEEMS really simple from the outside – but it’s a lot more complex. Because then every single time someone hits 100% the game is having to do a check – ‘have they had 100% before’. That’s unnecessary code.

That’s already happened to my mesmer. I hit 100% on her a long time ago, maybe a month or two after launch. Stopped playing for awhile and when i came back i’m sitting at 99%.

Once you hit 100%, that character is flagged as having hit 100% at one point in time, that doesn’t mean you are currently at 100%

They’ve already added at least ten new PoIs and a few waypoints for the releases of Guild missions and several LS installments. Each time, it lowered the area completion of the respective zone from 100% to 99%.

It’s already happened numerous times.

And the exact, current fix is for you to get your PoI, 100%, and no additional reward.

And then all the new players are discovering areas not tied to world completion and are saying, “wtf am I doing wrong?”. You can see how it gets confusing when areas that are not tied to it are scattered between areas that are tied to it with no way if funding out which ones are without leaving the game. Not to mention about that code your saying is a big deal is already implemented into the game when they made wvw maps count towards completion. Don’t think those chars got 4 gifts for completing wvw.

That was the per-zone map completion though. Anyone who already had 100% stayed on 100%. and a couple of those were simply replacing existing points.

I can assure you I did not stay at 100% when any new PoIs or WPs were added, whether documented as zone- or world-completion. It reduced both tallies, on every occasion, to 99% each, at which point I’d touch the new map objective and return it to 100% without claiming a secondary reward (because I’d already been credited for 100% completion and distributed all respective rewards prior to re-attaining “100%”).

If this is not what you are talking about, I have no idea what you’re saying.

The gifts of exploration is tied to getting all the map completion chests. (hence the issue with members of the Order of Whispers, who never officially enter the ‘exploreable’ mode of the Chamber of Secrets to trigger the chest.)

I’m going to guess that the fact the Southsun and ETOM does not have a completion chest, there are some issues with if tabulating the area with the rest of the stats.

If the new maps were added to world completion, that would mean new players have a lot more to explore to get the same reward as older players who had to do less exploring. Doesn’t seem fair to me.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!

When LA gets destroyed today, mapping its area for the map completion will become way harder than it currently is. Orr areas had the mob density severely reduced, which makes their mapping easier. There are also several PoIs and waypoints added in the zones since the launch. That is considered to be okay, but adding one area to the map completion list is not? I’m not buying this.

Actions, not words.

Personally I think that whenever something new is added that should be part of world completion any player wishing to keep their world completion should have X number of days to get it or they’ll lose their title.

Can’t take away the Gifts of Exploration because that would be impossible or higher unfair (depending on whether they’d used them yet), but I think losing their title makes sense.

I think it’s silly that I didn’t have to map out Southsun for World Completion. I should have had to. Same goes for all other permanent things added since launch.

I would further ask that the WvW zone be taken out of the world completion and be replaced by SSC and EotM if it is indeed PVE.
