So it may be a little bit late as Silverwastes came out a long while ago but I wanted to publicly appreciate the way mobs in Silverwastes work. I am a mesmer. I am always carrying a condition heavy (condi-prec-tough) set with me and I never actually used it before noticing how mobs in Silverwastes work. So there are two types of Terragriffs – one of those has this heavy dash attack and the other one sticks his legs (or what are those) in ground and starts shooting some creepy missiles. And yeah I could talk about other mobs through this whole thread but that’s not the point. The point is that I felt very usefull even in great zergs. Woah, this thrasher would’ve done so much damage if I didn’t interrupt him. Same for the basher terragriff. Oh, and the other terragriff just melted after I applied confusion to him before he started shooting missiles. It’s one of those momments in GW2 when I felt that other builds than zerg are actually usefull. (speaking of my heavy interruption+confusion build which I normally use only in PVP)
I also had a warrior but I somehow felt much less usefull even if doing more damage.

I really, really like where this is going. If other new maps will have even better mobs (and that’s what I expect from Anet as all of it’s newly released stuff looks much better than older stuff to me) then I’m going to be even happier.

And then when you realize a condi build will melt the husks while traditional power builds struggle with them…

Yes, Silverwastes mobs are a good example of rewarding class diversity and using interrupts against standard mobs. I’m just thankful they don’t have Champion Terragriffs spawning (at least I haven’t seen any).

Haha, yeah. Interrupting those would be a pain. I also like how nicely reflection works vs mordrem vines.

Cripple/Chill/Immobilize all interrupt the Teragriff’s charge attacks. Great bit of design there.

Still wish they would return Retaliation to the wolves instead of Swiftness.

I like the direction they’re going in with different mob designs, though I don’t think I care much for how stupidly hard things tend to hit in Silverwastes.

When the new car smell wears off for some, the self-evidencing detail that they didn’t encourage diversity will become clear – they just changed the meta required. Wanna do silverwastes? Put the zerker meta aside, roll out a vit/condi heavy build (or so goes how my own experiences are typically vastly improved). If you don’t have lots of HP, you’re gonna melt fast and easy and generally be not much threat to anything.

Gotta be alive to do damage and all that, after all.

You’re gonna need a boatload of HP and condi dmg/duration to really shine out there, as well as the usual competency at dodging and not standing in red rings of death.

Actually, a mix of different builds is ideal for Silverwastes events. Condition damage for husks, control conditions and reflects for Teragriffs, AoE for Menders, mobility for Wolves, spike damage for Leechers, ranged for Threshers, healing for sheer damage…

No single build is fantastic against all of them (arguably condition necro), but every build is optimal while none of them are.

I love the fact the mobs actually hurt if you don’t interrupt/dodge their attacks. Otherwise it would be again just one more braindead press #1 skill and drift off into Neverland events. Now you actually have to move and fight, sometimes retreat and come back, use CC, etc.

The difficulty is just right. Not hellish as that would drive away too many players, but not trivial either.

Also, you can still do just fine with power builds, but obviously you’ll want the condi ppl to handle the husks. If Anet wanted to change/add anything, maybe make some of the mobs cleanse conditions (a new type of mender perhaps) or be naturally resistant to them.

I can’t really disagree with you, though I did throw the caveat of my own experience on there. The power builds feel like they were built specifically against. Nothing wrong with that – always good to have a reason to play anything other than zerker – though it still feels to me like they just changed the meta.

Narrowing it down, my biggest gripe is that the mordrem wolves seem buggy. They often do absurd back-attack damage no matter where I’m facing, it seems, and just plain feel broken.

Also, the big teragriffs seem like they have inordinately wide hit fields with their charge attacks. I swear I’ve dodged many a charge only for the dodge to one side to literally not take me far enough, and wind up juggled to instant death irrespective.

Fairly minor gripes, all. I don’t know that reducing damage in general would fix anything either. Maybe figuring out why/if the wolves are buggy or what.

I can go ’D’oh!’ and hoof it back like a stooge for once again dodgefailing against a teragriff’s mighty hit path, but those wolves cheat, and I would like to pee on their towels.

Yea SW is the only place u don run my ele. I’ve found my ranger and necro to be the best classes to farm there by far

I agree, Azure. My ranger does best in SW…my ele does less well, and I have tried my necro and warrior…but my Ranger works best.

I am loving the new mob mechanics in SW. I finally have a use for my condi necro in PvE. I think this is a good direction they are going, and hopefully we will see more mobs in the future that make other builds more useful.

I don’t understand your beef. Is that not exactly the way to encourage build diversity? You can’t exactly have every build be viable in every situation; that kind of defeats the purpose. Unless you have a genius suggestion to offer that addresses all those problems?

I feel that ranger is the supreme ruler of SW. My only gripes are my pet getting so much aggro it slows me down and when I keep it on guard and fight wolves it takes longer to kill them melee. Silly complaints but if I had to pick something that’s it. Now my necro with dagger and axe I can melee basically everything in SW. Flesh golem doesn’t seem to aggro things and just attack what I attack plus even with zerkerning Ave access to enough condis for husks. I really like that my necro has a place in pve
