New palyer
Elementalist for a new player can be very overwhelming, especially if you are trying to pvp. You have 4 attunements with one weapon with 5 skills. That alone is 20 skills you have to memorize and what attunement does what. Then add combo fields, blast finishers, utility skills, traits, gear, oh my!
Personally I would go into PvE in the open world and get a good feeling for your Ele. Npc’s are fairly dumb and you can focus on what you are actually doing verse trying to juggle your own abilities while fighting another player.
I think once you memorize and are confident with one weapon and a particular set of skills and utilities, take another shot in PvP. Burn and learn, and eventually you will know your profession inside and out so well you can do it in your sleep.
Thanks for the awesome advice! Yeah for an old world of warcraft player it is kinda confusing. Will level up and do some dungeons to get the hang of it.
Cheers
I agree with when being a new player, especially with elementalist, engineer or mesmer, go level up your first character to 80. After that you should have a semi decent grasp of the game and the class you are playing.
Then…practice
Also look in the class subforum to check out advice or ask for advice.
You can start doing pvp but you will take some time to learn the basics of play ele, took me 3 months to learn to play ele in pvp in a decent way and almost other 5 (and counting) to master it. Ele has has a loy of good builds in pvp, find the one that suit you and enjoy.
Perhaps there’s an easier proffesion for a new player you’d suggest?

If you are brand new to online rpg, I would suggest trying a Ranger, Guardian or Necromancer. If you are not new to rpgs, and want one just to learn the game first, anything but mesmer, engineer, theif and elementalist
