Okay, let me say this first that title of this thread is misleading on purpose. I hope ArenaNet employees will read it cause i got really frustrated cause of recently implemented “New player experience”. To other players both vets and new ones, please share with me if you think alike, maybe i am just weird.

First of all, i have to say that i do not really understand why Arena Net put their resources into such a feature. It’s well known that GW2 is a casual game with fluid and self explanatory leveling experience, just freedom and slow completing the map. Easy.

Well, at least it used to be easy. Truth is i am veteran so i DO know what to do after leaving tutorial but i have to say that the new system that you have implemented is utterly frustrating.

I have made a norn ranger (cause ranger OP right?), finished tutorial enjoying new pointers and stuff. All good….finished here.
As soon as i been dropped into open world problems started. I tried to do skill point (the hidden one in underwater cave just to the east of Wayfarer Foothills and after quick attempt of killing skelk i reallized i’m completely weaponless! More than that, underwater weapons have been BLOCKED until reaching level 8. Why is that ArenaNet? Do you enjoy looking at players bleeding to death cause they can’t attack back? After passing into cave i have tried to do said Skill Point challenge. After opening dialog with npc my character was apparently “not in the mood” to try on this so i had to rely on higher level players that would get there to trigger the skill point.

Same goes with pet panel. During my first heart quest i have tamed a raven. I missed the chance to equip it when i was asked but realized i cannot do that later either cause apparently adding pet panel from level 1 makes UI too complex for new players. I mean, come on.

I haven’t discovered other “improvements” yet so far but honestly, i got insta lvl20 scroll in my bank and i think i don’t want to struggle with all those limitations anymore.

The whole beautiful point of leveling in this game was complete freedom of doing whatever the hell i want to do anytime and anywhere. I feel like this game just achieved completely new level of hands holding that goes to absurd. There are thousand ways to improve gameplay as a whole but you chose to fix something that was already fine. I hope that’s not only my opinion cause that would mean this is never gonna change. Actually i shouldn’t care, it possibly will stop around level 17 or so but i am an altoholic as much as lot of other people playing this game. Perspective of going through this every time makes me wanna play some other games instead.

I hope that was constructive enough.

I hope this was constructive enough Arena Net. Please, rem

i think the system as a whole was a good idea but they did go overboard with some of the restrictions, making you wait to do a skillpint or change pets that uv already unlocked is unacceptable and violates the original point this game was sold on , mainly, “if you can do skill based content beneath the content’s level YOU CAN”. thats not true atm and its wrong

All those changes was the default features from the China client, now for some reason those features was implemented here, even though players in China complained and players here was relieved that wasn’t in our client … until now.

Charter Vanguard [CV] – HoD
Bardy Belzebuson – Ranger Sir Belzebu – Herald
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

wait… so they blocked the skill points NPC but you can still complete if a higher player triggers it?

This gets better and better

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

Yes, i managed to get the skill point after downscaled player triggered it. But this is just wrong. We should be able to spar with ANY npc. This is part of the challenge right?

Ok so as a new player who got to experience both the old and this new game start as I had only reached level 7 before the patch I feel like I could share my opinion :
I think that this idea of a “new player tutorial” is good so people who don’t want to learn by themselves can learn how to play it gradually so they can enjoy the game as much as everyone else (I personally didn’t mind learning on the go when I started playing just before the update but I can understand people who prefer a more “traditional” beginning)
BUT there are seriously some restrictions which need to be really tuned down : not being able to use underwater abilities before level 8 ? That is really not necessary, what’s the point in that ? It’s not like new players will find so hard to understand that they need to have spent a couple hours in the game to get it, just make it available from the start just like it used to be so that the rivers won’t be filled with the corpses of thousands of young warrior who couldn’t defend themselves against some violent fish !
Another thing that is understandable is the fact that veteran players DO NOT want to go through that tutorial all over again when they create a new character (something that is always a recurrent pain in the neck in all the MMO’s I’ve played) and a way to go around it would be to offer people ability to not follow the tutorial experience through a “Is this your first GW2 character ?” option during the character creation.
Now, I know close to nothing about game development and even less about the way an MMO’s features evolve so I do not now whether such an option would require a lot of work from the developers of GW or not in order to be implemented (if it is even possible), but here you go this is my idea to make the game enjoyable to the most people possible so feel free to bash it if you want to (just don’t be too harsh )

Aha! You are forgetting why it is called a “Skill Challenge” you see. It’s not called a Skill Challenge so that you can trigger it on any character and possibly die. It’s called Skill Challenge because you have to be an arbitrary level to trigger it unless a high level is there to do it for you, in which case you probably won’t die because the high level player can easily solo the challenge, anyway. That’s where the “challenge” part of Skill Challenge comes from.

Well, all I had to do outside Shaemoor Garrison was commune with the place of power, but for some reason my character said, “I’ll come back later.”

TBH he won’t be coming back.
