Hi,
I’m new. Should I be trying to go do all this Queen’s Jubilee stuff [which is temporary, right?] or should I be playing through my story line? I am not a big fan of missing out on limited time content, but I don’t even know if I am high enough level (currently lvl 9) to do anything, and I won’t have enough time to exhaust all content anyway before the next thing comes along. If I focus on events then I will never get around to playing the core game.

Thoughts?

EDIT: ok, so I was going for the Queen’s Jubilee, but can’t find anything to do other than light torches (which I found 1 place to do and got it in 2 or 3 tries, are there other places to do that?). I am sure I am missing something, but dont know where to look. I asked in /map yesterday, but no one responded with a helpful answer.

Of course do QJ first since it’s only here for a limited time.

I believe you are upleveled for the zerg events in DR.

The storyline never changes and you can always go back to it whenever. Also keep in mind that the story line doesn’t follow you level by level. There are some gaps between missions that require you to lvl inbetween them.

Definitely the jubilee…there’s lots of xp which will partly save you from the boredom of leveling to 80.

It’s a game forum. The truth is not to be found here.

I can say from experience that you should spend time doing both. If you play your personal story from the beginning, you will actually be able to make good use of the reward equipment you receive for completing each chapter. However, your personal story will wait for you, and still pose a fun challenge because you will scale down in level for the quest.

As for the temporary content, I didn’t take part in the Cutthroat Politics content until the last few days and I was still able to get some achievements and enjoy the new zones. Not enough to fully explore them, but I’m not an achievement hound.

So I would suggest that you at least check out the temporary content. You might just like browsing the new zone or playing a few mini-games. Or maybe you will get hooked on the story and want to dive all the way in! (oh! and you should scale up to level 80 for the temporary content, so you don’t have to worry about missing out)

I would say do the QJ until it’s changed (“nerfed”). It’s fun and rewarding right now, which everyone knows is a sign it won’t last long in its current state.

QJ first. QUICK! Farm as much as you can. Don’t sleep unless you really can’t take it anymore. The nerf police is coming soon.

Jubilee first, personal story later and you are welcome once you see the benefits.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

Not sure if editing bumps the thread, so posting this also.

Have you gone to the Crown Pavilion?
If you want to do something in the open world Go to the Hot Air Balloons.
Also
When all else fails, the GW2 site does usually post guides for events to give you a helping hand.

As for torches themselves, there’s only four of them and all within Divinity’s Reach.

I don’t think this is spoilery, but I’ll mask it just in case…

Go to the waypoint at the Queen’s Pavilion (west side of DR). Look around. There will be one of those doors that looks like they’re covered in water. It should have a gold symbol over it marking it as destination for you. Go through and it will put you into an instance. You’ll go through a short mission, then when you’re done it will put you into the area where all the action is. I also spent quite a bit of time wandering about, then finally went back to the waypoint and actually turned around.

It depends on what you enjoy. If you prefer to do the story do that. You really don’t miss out on much with these events except a few achievements, maybe some skins for weapons. I’m having fun with it this event though so I am spending time doing the content. I have skipped many in the past because I did not find the events fun and I don’t feel like I missed anything.

So do what you like!

Grind the flavour of the month before it’s nerfed. I’ve missed the boat on countless of these and hence I have no legendary.

DON’T WAIT, GRIND NOW!

You can do both,
do the Queens jubilee stuff in the open world in the starter zones as you level and just do your story when it comes up-
don’t stress and just enjoy yourself
you will get some achievements, level up fairly easily since there are many many people around and get to use your personal story rewards
have fun
