Ok first I want to say is before I bought this mmorpg I kind of expected to be more of a casual mmo and I am fine with that because it is very fun, I enjoy pve and pvp, and the game is unique and fresh for me compared to your other mmorpgs. However I have always been more about the journey kind of mmorpg player. customization, leveling up, exploring and more.

I have heard of people getting to 80 in 3 days and this worries me because I keep hearing how there really is not much to to progress at 80 so did anything change since those 1 year old threads?

I know the expansion will be almost nothing but end game progression which I think sounds awesome but that is not for 2 more months.

Any info you can provide would greatly be appreciated and have a nice day:)

After hitting 80 there are still a few goals to work toward. Map completion, leveling crafting skills, dungeons and fractals, collecting armor and weapon skins, collecting dyes, and working toward your first legendary weapon are all reasonable goals that sound up your alley. Welcome and good luck!

For a new player, hitting level 80 will take some time and work.
But for the veteran player, they could hit level 80 incredibly fast. Veterans may be sitting on level up tomes, level 20 tomes, etc.

There are also incredibly fast ways to level up such as dungeons or Edge of the Mists; but if you don’t abuse those systems as a way of leveling up, it should take you some time to hit level 80.

Enjoy the game.

The purpose of endgame is to get enough skins/dyes/ect. so your character is the best looking one in the new maps when they come out.

Well its that or do silly things like pvp/wvw/fractals/ect., but cosmetics is really where its at in this game.

The key difference between GW2 and most other MMOs: Downscaling.

In most MMOs, once you max out your level, ONLY the end game-maps are relevant to you. If you outlevel content like a dungeon or something before you had the chance to even explore it, then you’ve basically missed the content.

In Gw2, you downscale in maps and dungeons, so it’s worthwhile to go back and explore all the maps and do any dungeon even at level 80. So clearing all the events in starter maps is still worthwhile content even at level 80.

As a new player, simply working towards 100% map completion, doing all the dungeon paths at least once each, doing all the jumping puzzles etc. is way more than enough to keep you busy for several months.

Those clamoring for end game content are the people who have been playing for years and did all that stuff already.

Long story short: There’s not a massive amount of end game content in which you MUST be level 80 to play it, but there is still plenty to do after you’ve gotten all your levels. It’s just that most of it is stuff you can still do before you’ve actually hit the cap, but you’ll hit 80 long before you manage to complete all of it.

This is fine news I never use those things in mmorpgs, well I have but learned very quickly how much of a mistake that was.

There is no endgame in GW2. It literally doesnt end anywhere. There is only perpetual gameplay. Whether its PvE, sPvP, WvW or any combination of that is up to the player.

The best part is that the endgame is whatever you want it to be, unlike other MMOs where it’s a constant grind to make sure you have the best gear you can.

People who are getting to 80 in three days are nutjobs. That isn’t the normal amount of time it takes, 80-120 hours of normal PvE play is a more reasonable estimate. Yes, there are short cuts.

But this isn’t a game where being max level unlocks the “real” content.

Like any MMO you can take shortcuts to max level, but, if as you say, you choose to take the journey and explore you’ll find there is plenty to do.

It’s possible to get to level 80 very quickly, it’s also possible (and entirely reasonable) to take your time and get there though normal gameplay.

And as other people have said this isn’t one of those games where once you get to the maximum level you’re locked into a few specific areas. I just spent the evening doing a level 55 dungeon on a level 80 character, before that I was exploring starter maps on the same character.

So even after you’ve reached level 80 there will still be plenty to do, both stuff that was available before which you may not have gotten around to and stuff that only opens up at that level.

Oh boy, if you are new, you shouldn’t worry at all, there’s plenty in this game to last a casual/semi-nolifer a very, very long time.

  • Personal story
  • Dynamic events
  • World bosses
  • World completion
  • Dungeons & Fractals
  • Jumping puzzles
  • Mini Games
  • Living world story s2 (If you buy it)
  • Skin collector
  • Achievement freak
  • WvW nut (Like me)
  • Spvp nut

I’m sure i missed something, but that is what i do atleast..

I have all classes at 80, but the vast majority of my time spent playing the game did not involve leveling up. There is a ton to do in the game a lot to achieve. The expansion will be adding more “end game” stuff as well.

Hi

there are a ton of things to do at 80, i have an 80 of every class except ranger which i deleted, just can’t stand it, and i have had them for more then 2 years and still have not ran out of things to do.

as others have stated, tons of farming, dungeons, fractals, dry top and silverwastes, and of course the upcoming expansion.

however, what this game lacks is the tight knit community that you find in other MMORPGs, if you came from them then you know exactly what I am talking about. the PVE guilds here just can’t compare and also because the game is overall too casual, you can’t get as many people and as tight, because they are too casual and simply not there or overall sub-par to do so. the SPVP guilds are also just simply too small for this to happen, they will both say otherwise, but that is just because they lack the personal experience and a frame of reference to compare to and are simply wrong on this.

the only place good communities were found in this game was in WvWvW, but they have drastically declined. A-net has basically completely neglected the game mode, and just recently made some announcements and 1st improvements for problems which have been reported for 3+ years !!!!! thats years !!!!!! naturally, most of the dedicated WvW players have left by now.

your best bet is to join a mid size or large PVX guild on your server, but if you are on wrong server, this will impact you greatly as their quality may be extremely sub-par without them even knowing it.

i would look to which server you are on 1st, and transfer if it doesn’t look very good, then find a guild. definetly do not stay on any of the lower tiers, you will greatly regret it down the line.

do not worry about leveling in 3 days etc. your 1st character in the game will naturally take the longest as in the rest of the genre, and just FYI, my fastest 0-80 was around 4.5 hours back when you could do it entirely via crafting in 1 sitting. your next characters will be taking less and less time to level. my next, if i stay in game which depends on the result of a-nets wvw improvements, will be a revenant, which i will insta level to 80 via lvl 20 scroll + tomes.

i also recommend you try out at least 2-3 classes and multiple builds, don’t get yourself stuck in a single mind frame on a single character, in this game it is far better and easier to have these options then in the other games.
