I’m an expecting mother so the first thing I want is to be able to do things solo. I do also want to be desired and have my roles in groups. I’ve played all the classes for at least a few levels most to 10-20 and my highest a warrior to 45. Right now I’ve been bouncing between my necro, mesmer, and warrior. I love feeling like a kitten and wading into baddies in heavy armor, but something about the other two have my eye. I’d really like to pick one and push on to 80 and ejoy the end game. Wintersday looks fun I don’t want to get bored either just because I feel the need to get to end game. Thanks in advance for any insight into the manner.

Want soloing you can pick : Guardian/Warrior/Necro/Ranger

But what are you looking for. you have to give us more detail.

Like a specific role play element,

or a fighting style (melee/ ranged/ magic oriented/ tech)

Also if you interested in WvW/PvE/SPvP/etc in a slight way that may temp you into playing it at max level.

Also what trinity role you enjoy (Tank/ Healer/ DPS/ Support/ Control)

Also any Weapon/Armor you prefer. best to list in a ranking order from best to least for you, so we can come up with something for you.

I love mesmer after it’s allot of fun having crazy abilities like portals and blinks. also the clones you create can be a real annoyance to your enemies. All classes can solo the content only things that are super hard to solo are group events and dungeons. If you ever feel like you are having a hard time in a zone of your level make sure your armors and weapons are at a high enough level for you.

I solo a lot.

For general farming and PvE solo and champ trains I use my elementalist, just because she’s a lot of fun for me to play. Others may have a different opinion.

But, for all around ease of leveling or solo roaming Necro has it down! you can run either a minion build or a condition build and your enemies simply melt in front of you.

Guardian and Ranger are great for sustainability, and Warrior is fun at lower levels. (Don’t know about higher levels because I’m not there yet)

What it all boils down to is that you need to play what makes you happy. Every class can solo content, even the poor little thief. Some are just better at it than others.

I love my condition/bursting hybrid necromancer because it uses all stats so celestial gear (Gear with a bonus to all stats) efficiently. I can stack bleeds, vulnerability, I apply weakness on critical hit every 20 seconds for 5.5 seconds so overall it does help the party a lot and also does decent burst damage and control with axe/focus weapon combination.

To stack the conditions I use scepter dagger for AOE bleeds, cripple and etc. As utilities I use blood is power to get 10 stacks of might, and bleed the target for a long time. (It also self bleeds so if you use blood is power then epidemic, you can spread all the conditions then you’ll have self vulnerability and bleeding, which you can then heal even more damage with consume conditions, or just add them to the target as well with dagger number 4).

I can even heal my team with life transfer (Death shroud 4) and a specific trait from the blood line, which I have 10 points invested. Which actually targets up to 5 allies, and 5 enemies at the same time, healing your allies with a high HP pool about 25% and dealing the classic great AOE damage that death shroud 4 provides. (With the healing power from celestial trinkets of course)

I hope I’ve made an okay case for the necromancer, but I hope you really enjoy whichever class you choose to play as your main.

I’ve typically gravitated to Tanks and healers over pure dps even though I’d always say I wanted to be dps for once. Typically I prefer PvE, but I can on occasion get into PvP if the right people are asking. I generally love heavy armor, but the light armor gets pretty good when you get to higher levels from what I’ve seen.

Thanks for all the responses so far =D

In GW2 the closest fit is Guardian.

First, Congratulations and Good luck with the baby

Second, I’d pick Necro. Idk why, perhaps it’s because it’s one of the classes I don’t have and it looks fun to play.

Thirdly and lastly, you don’t need to be lvl 80 to experience the “end game” You can enjoy all of Wintersday at any level. It’s what makes GW2 so wonderful

80 ~Thief~ Isabella Angel | 80 ~Eng~ Ratchet McClank
80 ~Warrior~ Delvoire | 80 ~Ele~ Azalea Avenir
80 ~ Guardian~ Rag Nor | Server ~ FA

You don’t have to play solo, you have a little farmer on the way!

Kidding aside, here are my thoughts about the three classes you have listed.

Warrior- One of the most desired in groups, most overplayed in the game, decent group utility, if you run with a greatsword you will have the most DPS in the game, easiest to play, most boring IMO. Too one dimensional, not enough dynamics to the game play.

Mesmer- Desired in groups for portals, timewarp, feedback. Decent DPS, not the greatest not the worst. Decent utility. Fun to play, difficult to learn. Most unique archetype. I love the dynamics of it(mesmer is one of my favorites).

Necro- One of the least desired classes, unless you are running a necro-condition stacking group in WvW. High HP and life stealing make it have decent survivability. Cool looking abilities and effects. Quasi difficult to play(depends on you and your build) and CAN get boring. Good class dynamics though.

Karma is as abundant as air, and as useless as the Kardashians.

Let’s see:

Open World Solo: Warrior, Guardian, Ranger, Necro
High Dungeon Desirability: Guardian, Warrior, Elementalist, Mesmer
Subject to Boredom: Warrior
Able to wade into a pack of foes like a bad kitty: Warrior, Guardian, Necro.

However, a few notes:
- Any class can solo open world, some just have to work harder than others (mesmer, thief)
- Any class played well will be welcome to any dungeon, just some are seen to be more valuable than others.

Overall, though, it really sounds like you want to play a guardian. They may start off feeling a bit soft, but they become just beastly, able to tank more than most, with options to pump out buffs and heals… all while maintaining respectable DPS.

Thanks I’ll give that a try today Hoping to get some play time in.

This was one of the first games where I really had trouble getting into a class because of a lack of meaning to picking your class (i.e. Trinity) I have gotten all 8 to 20 before, some on more than one occasion, and I usually end up quitting them and deleting them. The only one that I or my wife has been able to level to max is Guardian. It’s fun to play. You have options. Building tanky or dps feels like it means more as a Guardian. I can actually heal others enough to make a difference in WvW.

Guardian is a good solid choice for solo, PvE, and PvP. You will always be wanted and feel like you are contributing.

That pretty much sounds like what I’ve been doing the past couple of weeks since I got the game. I love how GW2 does things. It feels very refreshing and I imagine I’ll stick with it for a while, but like you said it’s hard to pick a class. Definitely have old habits to break.

Guardian or Warrior since you get a massive amount of options for builds and weapons.

Plus they’re the most loved in general.

btw, you could also consider just buying three more character slots, and role one of each. Then, as you waver between which class to play, you’re not starting from scratch.

If you are ever interested in not being a bunker when you pvp thn do not roll a guardian.

The class you are looking for is warrior. Highest base HP, best armor class, easily way more damage than any other class when leveling, face roll easy full signet build is effective and can be played with one hand, and in end game you have a plethora of is le
Builds for pve, pvp or wvwvw. Do yourself a favor an stay away from guardian if to want to pvp anything other than a buffbot meat bag who can hardly 1v1 and has no soft cc for a melee only class.
