Hi all, i just bought GW2 and installing it as we speak. I have few questions to ask while it installs from CD and patch.

I am from EU, which server is recommended to start on?

Which class is easiest to play as new player?

Also i bought Heroic Edition and it says i get Suit of Legacy Armour, now is that for one character or account wide?

Any other info and suggestions are most welcome

Server doesn’t have a huge impact unless you are going to play World vs World, as the game uses a megaserver system to allow everyone to play together, but I hear Desolation is pretty popular.

All classes are pretty easy to get used to, but warrior and ranger are often seen as the simpliest classes to play and easiest to get used to the game with (I started with ranger, myself).

The armour set is per-character, but you will unlock the armour skins for your account to apply the look of the armour you select to the same type of armour of the same armour class (light, medium, heavy)

The best thing I can suggest is don’t be afraid to ask questions in map chat, most people playing GW2 are very friendly and willing to help, and the game has a fair few features not seen anywhere else, as well as not the grandest direction and guidance.

The /wiki command will also be a good friend to you. if ever there’s something you’re unsure about (like an item/skill/etc) type /wiki item name to bring up the wiki page for that particular thing

Hi there and WELCOME!!!

Server :
For new players I normally suggest server that are ranked on Tier4-Tier6 in WorldVSWorld(large PvP server vs server fights) for the most balance experience, you can always move for a bit of cost later if you like.
Other than that server matters VERY little for most other gameplay.

Class :
Difficult to answer. Easy could be boring, but I would say that either one of the 2 heavy armor classes are the easiest, warrior or guardian, guardian being the easier for leveling.

Armor :
Its a skin, the game has a wardrobe, as soon as you unlock a skin it is stored in your account wide wardrobe for ANY character to use as long as its the corresponding armor weigth(medium, heavy, light).

Feel free to message me in game anytime if you need help and our guild loves new people. :P We are on Aurora Glade server.

There are a few servers that have a good amount of EU coverage if you’re interested in WvW. But if you’re just starting then it’s not so critical right now as you’ll probably be in PvE where your server is not a real concern.

Class.. Ele is pretty open to different play styles and engie can be a safe bet for new players using turrets. Don’t pick thief because they are squishy and require a decent amount of dodging to stay alive.

Legacy armor is for one character only (soulbinds on use) and is a slightly higher stat boost of beggining armor. You do get an outfit that is account wide but contains no stats and is only for appearances.

Server’s only really matter for WvW as in PvE all servers are mixed in together. You can look at the leaderboards here otherwise I’m going to be biased and recommend Aurora Glade. Here’s a current AG recruitment post -
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Aurora-Glade-is-looking-for-you/first#post4558442

This largely depends on the style of play you enjoy. Warrior and Ranger are generally considered to be the easiest classes to start with. Once again biased but I’d say Ranger. Just don’t camp Longbow. Try out the other weapons as some of the melee options are really good fun.

The armour set is account bound I believe so you can use it on multiple characters of the same armour class. Also you can use the skins at any point with transmutation charges.

I only have 2 suggestions.

1 – Don’t rush through. Enjoy the journey.
2 – Learn to dodge. Combat is active here so you will need to move and dodge to not die.

When you get logged in add me in game and feel free to drop me any questions you come up with and I’ll try to help as best I can.

Will do, and i am kinda used to dodging from games like Tera/TSW/Wildstar and such where dodge matters, i really dislike games where i can just facetank and stand still just pressing buttons.

Also i did some reading and when i saw that Engineer has a flamethrower that was the easy pick for me

One helpful piece of info for inventory:

A lot of things you collect are materials and if you click on the cog icon in your inventory it will have a drop down menu with “deposit collectables”. Those items will go directly to your bank and will save you a ton of space and item shuffling.

Hi and welcome to gw2. Not sure if Heroic edition is the same as digital deluxe, but i recently bought a 2nd copy of gw2 for myself and got an armor skin. Initially, i was able to select which armor weight to choose, (ie: med, heavy, light). It was actually stats armor to begin with when I first unlocked it and of rare quality. Normally you can’t wear rares until lvl 35 iirc.

That was a mistake really opening it right away, as i outgrew it very quickly. U get to lvl 10 in this game in a mater of an hour, but i didn’t actually realise b4 opening it that it was armor with stats and not just a skin.

However, equipping it, unlocked the skins in the wardrobe and also gave me a complete spare skin set of it to apply whenever i desire on any med char on my account (for free, just by double clicking it and applying it to a desired pce of armor, as those skins in the wardrobe will cost trans charges to apply). So I’m saving it till max lvl. the only problem is you have to keep that set which is now in separate pces until then lol, taking up like 6 slots of my bank space….lesson learned.

So my suggestion is, keep that box till much later in the game, maybe like 60 or 70 then open it and wear the set. that should cover you until max lvl and you get exotic armor set. If it does have stats, like mine, the stats should adjust to your lvl when u open it. Again, this is assuming that the set u got works in the same way as mine did.

As far as which class to start with, my personal suggestion is ranger. easy to learn and get a pet to help you in battle from get go. plus you can stay at range and out of danger until u learn the game. But then again, I’m bias toward ranger, I just love them.

Well good luck and hope you have many fun hours in the world of Tyria!

Yeah this game takes that to the next level. Almost everything above normal trash mobs can instakill you if you don’t dodge. Its usually well telegraphed though.

Ah wasn’t to sure what your game history was but yeah you should be fine then.

Engi is a very versatile class the only thing is the skill floor is quite high which is why I didn’t recommend it straight away. But honestly if that’s the one that catches your eye then go for it. You’ll get on much better with a class that draws you to it than some random persons recommendation :-P

BEST CLASS EVER!

So fun, but leveling with it as a first character is pretty hard.
Keep in mind that everyone thinks turrets are their strength when just starting out, its not, its kits that allow for more and different weapon skills.

One more thing :

SALVAGE ALMOST EVERYTHING!

With Basic Salvage kits for the most part. After level 61, then use Master or Mystic of yellows/rares and up.

First of all welcome!

If you’re going to pick a first class, the only advice I have is to steer clear of elementalist especially, thief and mesmer in a lesser way.

Elementalists have the weakest vitality and defense of them all, meaning unless you have a good grasp on the basics of combat, you’re going to die a lot. While it might be a good learning experience to some, it might very well become very frustrating.

Personally I would start with a guardian or ranger. These are more forgiving to play at first, but do not sell them short because it will take skill to master them. Warrior and necromancer are also fairly sturdy choices.

the initial download is about 14GB if you just downloaded the installer, yes. Unless you have very speedy net I’d suggest overnighting it.

to be honest, if you like the EotM gameplay, you SHOULD invest some time in picking the right server. changing servers later on will cost alot of cash ~300g or 25 euro (gems). In that case you can ask yourself wether you want to have a big community, big battles, or more small scale? do you want to raid with your guild or with the whole server? Do you prefer towercapping or fighting? ;p

haven’t been in the lower tiers for a while, so i can’t tell taht much about rank 10-27, however when going for larger scale fights i’d recommend either Gandara, Far shiverpeaks or Piken Square

My personal opinion:

Q: I am from EU, which server is recommended to start on?
A: It makes no difference which server you are with the implementation of Mega-Servers. Now we are all “technically in one server”. If you are planning on doing a lot of WvW, it does matter. Here is a useful link to see server ranks in WvW.

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/wvwmain

Q:Which class is easiest to play as new player?
A:Depends on your play style. I’ll recommend doing the next thing. Grab a series a characters and level them to either 20→30. That will give you the most basic concept of each profession. You can also go into PvP, which unlocks all traits and skills. Have some matches and watch videos on how to use the profession.

My personal favourite profession is thief (a monster in pve and awesome for pvp), follow up my mesmer (used her a lot in pvp).

But saying which profession is easy for new players, would depend more in your skills, I guess xD. Guess that hard professions can be elementalists and engineers, since they have a different dynamic regarding how their skills work. But they aren’t so complex that you should stay away from them. They just have a bigger learning curve. All professions have around the same learning curve.

Q: Also i bought Heroic Edition and it says i get Suit of Legacy Armour, now is that for one character or account wide?
A: It is account wide.
