Ok so I am a newb, I admit it.

I was exploring , opening up the map some last night ( I have a lvl 49) and googled to see more so I knew where to avoid going and BOOM!!

Is there really so little of that HUGE map that you see in game that is actually playable ?

Is there only 1-2 zones for lvl 80’s? ( what do they do if this it true ?)

Why do we have such a huge map on screen when only around 20% of it is actually able to be unlocked / played in ?

and does anyone know if ANet are planning on unlocking any more of it in the future or is this basically it ?

of course they will unlock more……and no, the “playable” zones area bunch. they do need more level 80 zones though.

New maps will probably come with the next living story.
If you explore all low level maps you will reach 80 long before you get to the zones for 80.
Due to downscaling your level doesn´t matter so much when you explore the world.

All the new Journal content will be expressly for Level 80. Many areas of the game, although labeled for lower levels, are usually played with the higher level characters.

It may be difficult for a ‘newb’ to reach some of the higher level areas without inadvertantly leveling their character to Level 80, thus rendering more zones as end-level content, essentially.

Usually players use Level 80 characters for the content such a Teq or 3-Headed Wurm, even most of the Dungeons. You can, of course, choose to play with any level character, as long as said character is viable.

In about 3 weeks, we expect the open map to increase in area. Yay!

Thank you so much.

All I am hoping for now is for Anet to decide to let new players have LS1 in the new journal so we can “Catch up” unlike a certain other MMO that sucks at explaining prior lore, hence being in Gw2 now !

Some day in the future, perhaps, Season One may become available, but as of now, no one is working on that implementation of the Journal.

Anet did great with lore in gw1 and I think season 1 of the living world was just a way to test and experiment without messing with lore fans actually cared about. Season 2 will probably update you too (the current instance you can watch in LA also sums things up). As for the map, it will expand over time. There are lore reasons we can’t go some places like far north (a dragon is there and even too cold for the norn now) and others have no reason other than not designed yet. There will be more lv80 zones and as mentioned before, GW2 scales so that every zone is worth being in with world bosses everywhere too. Welcome to the game!
