Have there been any hints to a new profession? It’s been like 1.5 yrs into the game and it would be nice to see some new stuff. Mostly a new heavy armor class. Any ideas?

I always found the artifacts and collecting of them in Rift a lot more fun than the Archaeology in WoW. So something like the Artifacts system of Rift would be nice. It was fun to find the shinies and you could sell the extras on the auction house. Also you could get nice rewards for completing sets. And then you could get a skill that opened up hidden ones.
I think the OP means things like Thief, Mesmer, etc, those being the “professions” in GW2.
A new crafting skill could be fun. I’m not sure how Archeology would fit in. Maybe something like a Scholar that could make skill-teaching scrolls? Hard to balance, though.
Anyway yeah, a new one would pretty much have to be heavy just to even out the numbers. And it would have to do things the other professions don’t. ANet came up with Mesmers which are quite different from classes in other games, so likely they can think of something interesting here — or get inspired by the many player posts suggesting and describing new heavy professions.

They’ve also hinted to the fact that if they were to release new classes to the game it would be a while before it even comes out simply because of balance issues. Hell they still are trying to balance stuff out since the beginning of the game.
If you ever played gw1 you know what major overhauls and class releases did to the PvP. Assassins were good, bad, great, decent, crap, strong and even with the flavor of the month builds abusing maps with these classes (looking at you druids isle and being able to shadow step into bases when guild thieves existed). If you go look at dervishes since their recent overhaul to them you’d say that the class is more broken now than it was at release.

I think if they added a new heavy class it would be a “black knight” like a Dragon-Knight, or Blood-Knight or something. I guess those would be a like a cross between Elementalist/Warrior or Necromancer/Warrior respectively.
Yeah, it will probably be a plate class. Which is kind of disappointing to me because I want to see an updated version of the Ritualist or Dervish, but neither of those are plate classes.

I am though. Realistically based on traiting and utilities both the warrior and the guardian can do what the paragon does at it’s core (heavy that specialises in buffing). The only thing missing is a spear/javelin weapon. As it is a lot of the paragon skills from gw1 are on warriors and guardians in gw2. To add paragon to the current game would just result in a huge overlap between two existing classes and really not add much that isn’t already here. As soon as a spear land weapon is added to warrior and guardian there really isn’t anything unique to gw2 paragon that doesn’t already exist within warrior or guardian (based on traiting and utility selection) beyond the name and skill aesthetic.

Oh I am sure Anet can totally redesign the class to be different here. Look what they did with Mesmer’s, Necro’s and Assassins, they play differently here.

If it pumps more players back into the starter zones i’ll be a very happy player, while I love trying new classes, having no one but NPC’s with you in the starter zones makes me cry a little on the inside.

Odd I have the opposite problem, lots of people running aorund the starter zones, but once I get to level 40-50 I don’t see many people around.
Human and Norn Starters seem ok, its the charr, asura, and sylvari that are practically dead

So realistically you’re just after the name paragon, it doesn’t even need to play like the gw1 paragons beyond the name, spear and heavy class…it’s more a player perspective issue than a gameplay one.
Not all the races have gods and really only the humans care about the human gods, building a class around the human gods is so unlikely to happen due to 4 other races also being able to play the class, you’re more likely to get a class that draws powers from the dragons seeing as that isn’t racially specific. Guardians already have the light magic, notice their light combo fields, making another heavy class that focused on light magic….

No I don’t give a rats about the name “Paragon”. I want the spear back as a weapon however. Also for guardian a lot of their light offensive spells come down to summoned weapons. I would not want anything of that sort for a Paragon type class. As I said blessings or something similar could be like a constant buff, or perhaps similar to ranger’s summoned spirits. Perhaps something like an Aura, a continued glow if you will that could offer newer bonuses that current boons don’t offer. There are plenty of ideas that can be done here.
What I offered in my last post were very basic ideas of what could be done obviously, point being that Anet could very easily bring the class in and have it play differently than it did in GW1 as well as have it play differently to the current Warrior and Guardian classes. People just need to use their brains and imagination for more than 5 seconds and they could come up with something.
Having said all that, what other ideas have been suggested thus far for heavy classes? None that I recall. What other weapons could be brought in which could give a char a class flavour? Of course some could say a Dervish type class but imo that would be more a medium or light class.
Lastly where I mentioned Gods that too was straight off the top of my head. The other races DO have alternates that replace the Gods, as it is in the create the char process. Obviously the Blessing/whatever you want to call it would be tied into those races and their replacements that they have for their Gods.
It would be nice to see a gish ( Fighter that buffs himself with spells). Sure we have the guardian but that’s too clericy.

I’m with you on the Ritualist. It was my main in GW1 and I miss it. Despite claims, engineers are NOT a replacement for it.
That being said, I don’t think it will be coming back. At least not first. The devs, as mentioned before, said the next class would probably be a heavy class.
I can see them making the Dervish into a plate class. They sort of did it with the monk. Why not the dervish?
I can see it being a scythe/sickle/scimitar type class. They could use curved weapons and maybe some other weapons we don’t see yet. Of course, the devs also said, that we would see current classes getting to use other current weapons before we see new classes and new weapons.
I got the distinct impression that a 9th class was ‘not likley’ from Colin, although I do agree with pretty much all here that it has been said that if such were to ever occur, it would be a heavy class (the devs have said as such). However, I can’t really come up with any heavy options that aren’t covered with the current warrior and guardian heavy options.
Obviously, with Zhaitan’s fall, they could mimic WoW’s Death Knight idea, and open up an additional ‘corrupted’ profession, which has now been returned to the side of ‘good.’ I don’t think they could really do it in any fashion that wouldn’t come off as a knock off though, and we’d be less than pleased. For a variety of reasons, which I don’t think I need to go into.
Honestly, I would prefer to see the base 8 classes balanced, and have more skill and weapon options opened up to them before the insertion of a new class (or even race) to the game.

Err what now? Warriors can use a bow does that make them a ranger all of a sudden?
I really don’t know why they don’t make a battlemage as a 3rd heavy…Thus its a caster and a heavy.. It could deal in pure arcane energy…and probably remove that from the elementalist which never made sense to me anyway. Isn’t this what the rumoured chronomancer was supposed to be?
