New profession: Warlock
So…. Basically you want them to take the Warlock class from World of Warcraft and put it into Guild Wars 2?
………no.
OTOH, i could see it as a revenant elite spec in a later expac – weren’t the GW1 demons mist-formed?

Been a while since I played that but I don’t remember being able to become the demon and getting new skills. The eye I did get the idea from but that’s it. I don’t remember any demonic power source either.

Genesis is right, what you described is pretty much exactly a WoW Demonology Warlock.
(And yes, you can Metamorphosis to enter demon form and get new skills.. and your power source is Demonic Fury).
Mesmer already has Phantasmal Warlock on their Staff 3.
Or they could make a Thief elite spec who uses a glove?? and spam low damage/cc spells using initiative as resource…
Just kidding, but i honestly hope they focus just on the 9 profession in the future and make more polished elite specs without worrying about balancing a new profession.

WoW that way ->
You really think wow is the only game with warlocks? Or special to wow? I guess we shouldn’t have warriors either.

Well actually, the way you described a warlock class…yes. To my knowledge they have a copyright on it. The only other Warlock class I know of in an MMO is on Bless Online. Some korean MMO.
its obviously inspired by WoW though. in other games i play Warlocks dont use demons. why does yours? It is inspired by WoW whether you intended that or not. When i think watlock i think D&D 4th edition with pacts and otherwordly things giving you powers, never do you get a demon. So your warlock is heavily similar to WoW, and WoW is the only game i personally jnow that gives Warlocks pet demons of any kind.

Pretty sure they can’t copyright “Warlock” as a class name.
Warlock is just the word for a male witch.
It would be like a game trying to copyright Witch, as a class name (i.e. impossible).
As far as class mechanic similarities go: again, I think it would be very hard to copyright certain mechanics, as long as the “copy” was just a fairly similar idea and not a complete replica (in terms of visual effects and numbers and stuff).
Much like, in fashion, all you have to do is make the “copy” have three small differences, from the designer original and you’re, generally, considered to be in the clear.
to be fair, didn’t an american company copyright a basic thing darn can’t remember the name I think it had something to do with candy crusher….
Anyway, the warlock kinda is really close to necromancer tho
^ Well, you can probably copyright almost anything, but whether a court would uphold it, is another matter.
Otherwise, for example, a food company could copyright the word “sandwich” and not allow any other business to use it.
That would, obviously, be unreasonable.
Yeah, TBH, considering Rangers are now also Druids (i.e. two completely separate classes, in WoW), I find it unlikely that they would make Warlocks a separate class, when they already have Necros.
It would almost be like making a Hunter class, as well as a Ranger class.

Op why would you want the Rangers pet A.I, that things a mess.

Look at the definition of warlock. Demons are involved bro. It’s not a wow thing.

That’s like saying why make a revenant when you have warriors and guardians.
It’s a completely different play style. It would be a combination of different existing styles plus more. It’s more like a cross between necro and ranger and elementalist.
I suppose you could make it a necro elite spec but it doesn’t really fit.
Well, my point was, that Druid (the new Ranger spec) seems a far worse fit for Ranger, than Warlock spec would be for Necro and yet, they still did it.
WoW Druids and Hunters (the WoW equivalent of Rangers) have pretty much nothing in common (not even armour type, at mid level onwards).
So, I just thought that, if they’re prepared to shove (healing) Druid onto Ranger, like that, they would probably think they had even more reason to do the same with Warlock and Necro (if they added Warlock, at all).
That’s assuming that you think of Necro as the nearest equivalent GW2 class to WoW Warlock (as I think most do?), obviously.
Not saying it’s right (I wouldn’t mind if they added a Warlock class as well) just that it would seem more likely that they would do that, if they did anything.

Just an FYI @uhohhotdog WoW Warlocks have a skill in the demonology skill, or at least used to – maybe it became just something you get from leveling, dunno, been a few years since I played WoW – that allows them to transform into a demon.
So everything you described about it using a demon for sacrifice, only having one out, and transforming into one, is the Warlock class from WoW while missing the ridiculous DoT spam that they have. Plus, Warlocks in WoW have portals.
So, I mean, you basically want a cookie-cutter Demonology Warlock from WoW in GW2. Unless I’ve missed something, that’s what you’re saying.
Edit:

That’s basically the class you want. Not even a full class, just one third of WoW’s Warlock class. The Demonology part. lol.
