New skill system is kitten
You mean trait point right?
I’m yet to test out the new system, but it does seem odd to me that it was changed. PvE leveling worked well how it was, I have a feeling this just makes it unnecessarily harder for people.

Sorry, but any time easily accessible information is questioned, I feel compelled to make posts like this.
leveling my first character in the new system…..don’t like it. the requirements for traits are sometimes absurd.
you can open a adept major slot at level 36 (a slot every 6 levels)….but many of the requirements for these adept major traits put you in content 10+ levels higher than lvl 36. One of the adept major traits required doing a level 55 personal story quest…..almost 20 lvls higher.
the cost to just purchase the traits are extremely high as well (unless you have a bunch of skill scrolls stored up).
i see the value in having trait acquisition based on in-game achievement (adds to progression and reason to do as much content as possible)….but at least make the requirements level-appropriate.
as it is, the inconvenience of the new system has to be killing build experimentation/diversity….
i’m just glad i leveled my other 7 toons in the old system. so i know which traits are worth the trouble getting.

Thanks for the link.
I think 1 trait-point every 5 levels starting with level 15 would be better.
If you want Windborne Dagger (line 5 trait 6) to escape mobs more easily, good luck – you have to complete an lvl 80 zone.
I’ve been working on a new character in the new system and find it overall good. I like exploring and getting a little extra reward for doing things like map completion. Extra motivation to do the personal story isn’t so bad either. But this is a forum so I do have some complaints.
1. Buggy events
This is the one big problem that can’t be blown off as just my opinion. Two of the traits are locked behind events that are (were?) broken. Did recruit the hylek in EB, got nothing. No event reward/karma, no trait. Tried to do the Devourer Queen, this quest chain is stuck/broken and has been as long as I can remember. Every time I’ve wandered through the map I’ve noticed the Defend the Devourer event that never does anything or goes anywhere.
2. The new trait interface
I liked the old interface a lot more, where you could hover over the space you wanted to fill and see everything that was available. Now you have to dig around a lot more to find things, lots more mouse movement, more clicking, more hovering, more time-consuming, just way less intuitive and convenient. It’s also not really comfortable searching around for traits that still need to be unlocked, click on each section, and hover over every single spyglass, looking for that one trait that you seem to remember being on this map somewhere. There are also separate popups for what the trait is and where to find it, which I find annoying. Too much hovering! I’d rather have the info just there, so I can quickly scan through and find what I’m looking for.
3. Too much map completion
Yes, I said I like map completion and I do, but 10/60 is a lot.
4. Still waiting for my server to get the blue castle so I can kill that grub. Don’t know how much longer I’m going to have to wait.

The cost of traits is no different to before, it is just that you don’t have to spend 10 points to get 1 major trait anymore.
The point of this new system is to learn the basics of the game, to let you experement with your skills that you can get while leveling up to 30. When you have got all your skill holders it is time to teach you about traits and to let you see and experience your traits one at a time.
IMO this game is easy and they also made most of the stuff easier to compesate for this trait loss on lower levels. You just have to concentrate on what you got and learn the game as you play and not rush towards level 80 and max out. This game isn’t about getting level 80 and max out, this game starts at level 80 and by then you should have graduated the GW2 school and should now be able to build yourself an okay build and know what you do and how you do it.
I have a friend who isn’t to bright. He has played since headstart too and he still doesn’t know what to do with traits, he just puts them where it sounds good and doesn’t bother about what stats he has or if that trait goes well with that weapons and stuff. Now while he has been leveling a new char with the new trait system (Wich he isn’t very found of) he has learned alot about the traits and how they actually work becouse he can take it slow and try them out on at a time.

Just buy them from the trainers. This is exactly how it was in Guild Wars. At least with GW2 you don’t have to wait till some end game zone to find the skill trainer who has the skill you wanted. Buy just the traits you want and then leave the rest for regular unlocking.
