With the recent change to dungeons the pool of available groups for doing them has decreased to near-nothing. 9/10 times there’s no groups in any of the dungeon lfgs, that remaining time is either a story mode (No shards) or the group is just awful. The people left doing the dungeons are ones whom want the skins or some other, individual motivation, and it’s unlikely they know what they’re doing – as that requires experience, which means having done the dungeons already, loaning itself towards them already having want they want.

Even if the 1/10 group was experienced and went smoothly, Anet said they wanted to “phase out” dungeons entirely. Alright, that leaves my only reliable source of Empyreal Fragments to be chest trains. Oh wait, shovels are now insanely more difficult to come by in bulk because the hoarders are literally selling them to guilds for the massive numbers needed to fuel guild halls. So Chest Trains are now almost completely gone, the only one I’ve seen post-HoT lasted all of 30 chests.

With all this, first I’d like to ask if there’s some other means of farming Empyreal Fragments that I just am not aware of. Before you ask, yes I know that certain open world chests and jumping puzzles reward fragments, but that’s 3-9 fragments each. Making an average of 6 per chest. I need 400 of the things, meaning that’s just about 67 chests I have to open. This is compared to dragonite ore or bloodstone dust, which drops in such frequency and amounts off of farmable content that Mawdrey II and Princess are becoming obese and are starting to inquire about healthcare benefits. A single vinewrath drops 40, that’s the same as two dungeons – whilst also rewarding oodles more loot and significantly more gold.

TL;DR Im so salty the FDA put a health warning on my chest and I require more Empyreal Fragments for an ascended axe.

I think so. I haven’t been getting them, or if I have it’s not in amounts that I’ve noticed.

If I want Empyreal Fragments, I used to get them from SW chests (which you’ve already covered) and WvW. I got a lot of them running the EOTM train and I get them when I run with zergs in regular WvW, too.

PvE, I don’t know where else to get them.

Yea…kinda looking for a way to acquire alot of this, ive always had problems with Empyreal fragments, and this just didnt help at ll ;-;

Recent searches for new farming methods have indicated WvW/EOTM no longer rewards Empyreals, however if you can give post-HOT confirmation otherwise it would be very appreciated. Anybody whom can provide post-HOT confirmation on fractals giving them would be awesome too, going to mess around a bit and see what I can find.

Somebody in my guild mentioned champ trains, anybody happen to have further details on that?

I’ve confirmed that Fractals no longer give Empyreal Shards, but not yet WvW/EOTM. I don’t pretend to understand Anet’s design decisions though. “We don’t want you doing dungeons anymore so we’re nerfing them, but don’t worry! We’re changing the fractals to be more like dungeons so instead of doing dungeons you can do dun- I mean fractals!”

But so far champ trains (just not HoT champs, they drop HoT mats instead) seem to be the only reliable source left. Empyreal Fragments are the new old version of dragonite ore I guess?

EDIT: You can get Empyreal fragments out of those unlockable boxes that drop in fractals. Time to save up/buy a bunch and see the drop rate I guess.

Not to mention SW one of the most profitable content in the game.

You can get them from open world chest. The problem is you will “only get” empyreal fragment and nothing else.

I think I opened a chest in VB and it handed out 13 frags a few days ago. After opening a mastery chest, you can go back at later dates and loot them again daily. I usually grab the easy ones for frags even though I’m not in need of them right now.

Can someone link me where anet has said they are phasing out the dungeons? It’s kind of a thing I don’t want to lose.. but maybe that’s just me.
