Hey everybody, just bought the game last night and going to download it in a bit, I’ve seen a bunch of videos but im so overwhelmed as being a former wow player, and now i get all these options,

I want to be a thief class but im not really sure what would fit best RP wise and lore.

Also if you can a little bit of extra lore behind the race and class would be nice

You have 5 slots, my recommendation would be to play the 5 you have the most interest in up to around level 15. Start in different zones by making different races and see what tickles your fancy.

Another cool thing to try out:

If you want to see how the profession plays at 80, you can go to The Heart of the Mists where you will be boosted to 80. There you can try any combination of gear, sigils, amulets, traits and skills and practice on the target dummies.

You can access that from the crossed swords icon. There’s a brief tutorial when you first enter, but you can skip it. Vendors are on the right after the tutorial.

Read the wiki dude, but really you will know a lot more after levelling any class to 10 and getting an idea of things in practice.

For race and profession?
Charr Mesmer.

If you are coming from WoW you may want to consider something like a Guardian specced for toughness and vitality. Guild Wars 2 is a very different game combat-wise. It’s about movement and position. Only a Guardian can really stand in one place (in fact if you focus on symbols you need to stay still).

You can choose to play sPVP or tPVP there, but it’s a great place to check out other proffessions and gear/trait choices before you make them in game.

Don’t worry: you’ll fit right into the game.

Once you get used to the skill bar and combat mechanics, the game is no different from WoW.
