New to GW2, server full.
Server’s only really matter for WvW as the Megaserver system combines all servers in a region (so EU or NA) in PvE. For RP purposes join another NA server (I’d recommend Northern Shiverpeaks – some really cool people), then fill you friends list with TC RPer’s and join an RP guild. You’re more likely to end up in friends/guild instances so you should still be able to play with the TC folks.

NA and EU are strictly separated (different mega-server PvE, different sPvP, different EotM, different WvW-leagues, different guilds^^) they only share the trade-post, you can move, but it will take some time, but you cannot access things that are on the other .
Worlds like TC have only 1 meaning anymore: They are different WvW teams http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups
otherwise it doesn’t matter on which server you are, you are “mega-server-merged” with either all NA-worlds or all EU-worlds. To role-play outside WvW (and partially EotM, you can join TC player in EotM, if you chosen world has the same WvW-color as TC) with TC-people you can choose any NA-world.
^^Someone knows what happen to your guild-memberships and especially your personal bank-guild if you move between NA and EU?

The guild influence earnings and guild banks used to be tied to the server but now are across all servers so if you transfer it will still be available.

As of the September 2014 Feature Pack, guilds are global and shared regardless of the world you are on. All merits, influence, and vaults were merged and are now shared across worlds.

Alright so I just play on Northern Shiverpeaks and add people from Tarnished Coast and it’ll allow me to practically be on Tarnished Coast yes? That’d be cool
Is the server you recommended populated then or does the server population also not matter due to the megaserver thing?
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/
The Megaservers cause the game to consider everyone in NA or EU as belonging to one giant server for PvE and sPvP. It opens and closes versions of each map (shard) as people move in and out of a map and will try to place you on the same shard as friends, party members, guild mates and people from the server you chose but other than that it’s everyone all together. If you guest to the Tarnished Coast you may land on a map shard that has more TC people on it, or you may not. There will be some TC people on each shard you land on, no matter what server you pick.

Yes NSP is populated but with the Megaserver system (as Just a flesh wound pointed out) it doesn’t really matter.
It’s not a guaranteed method but it can be quite good.

Heya,
I bought GW2 two days ago after my wow sub ran out due to frustration with wow pvp balance in WoD.
I happen to live in germany but due to my working times it is best for me to play on a US server. Now I had installed the game and read up a lot on beginner knowledge, getting into GW2 etc I also do happen to enjoy RP and read that Tarnished Coast is the RP server.
Now the problem is I am unable to get on the server as it is full.
I’ve tried 2 times now to get on it while nighttime/early morning in the US and it didn’t work.
Funny enough, during the afternoon shortly after having finished the installation, tarnished coast showed up as very high and it allowed me to connect. The game told me it’d synchronize my account with the server and it’d take a restart. After restarting the server was full again and nothing happened.
I’ve heard of the megaserver thing, does it work like CRZ in WoW? What are the downsides?
If I pick an EU server will I also be able to get to tarnished coast? What is a highly populated altnerative server if I can via megaserver indeed get to tarnished coast
and if that is not the case, I am -unwilling- to level up on another server and delete the chars later/transfer. I -insist- on being on tarnished coast. Sounds stuck up but I don’t want to be forced on another server due to such a thing.
Thanks in advance for any replies, help or tips!
Mega-server system is the PvE world overlap for all servers in a given region. So theres a Mega-server for NA, EU, and China. These region specific Mega-servers don’t communicate with one another at all, or never have, afaik. In conclusion your best bet is very much likely an RP-dominate EU server, if it exists. I suppose TC is still an option since you live in Germany and most Europeans enjoy MUCH faster speeds than the majority of Americans(at least 80-90% of the American pop). So you might have an acceptable latency experience.
Server: Dragonbrand
Guild: Knights of Ares [ARES]
If I’m not mistaken Piken Square is the EU RP-server, which isn’t full.
But yes, Mega-Server
Yeah but the problem with EU server is as said my work times which would make kitten server much more favourable and my connection is indeed quite fine so I doubt latency is a problem.
I just want to make sure I am able to be on Tarnished Coast or another crowded RP server if there is one
There isn’t, strictly speaking, a roleplay server anymore. They still have the label but they disappeared into the Megaservers. Now they are on all the map shards. Once you have friended other role players and gotten into a role playing guild the game will start trying to put you into the same shards they are on. If it doesn’t, you can party up with them and “taxi over” using the ‘join on [map name]’ option on their picture on the party UI.

Also the inofficial German RP Server was Drakkar Lake.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
