Hello GW2 forum community! The reason I’m calling it the forum community doesn’t need to be explained any further.

I am a long time gamer, been playing most genres of games and spent litterally thousands and thousands on hours on them. But, I’m getting older and time is not as free as it was when I basecamped my parents basement, playing computer as much as I possibly could. And since GW2 doesn’t seem to be the farmfest all the other mmos are, it fits me perfectly. (No, even from what I can read on the forums it doesn’t seem to be even close to other simular games).

When GW2 was first announced, me and two of my friends preordered it and played at start. I found it fun and somewhat new, atleast it was not a copy of our old AAA title champ and I actually thought that we had found a new game to hang out in. Now my friends didn’t share my enthusiasm(<- engrish ples?) and it ended with all of us quitting before even getting a character to 30.

Now that all that is said, I’m giving it a new go. This time I’ll level a character to 80 and actually try the game, as I don’t have anything else to play for now and I’ve wanted to do this for some time now.

The whole point of this thread would be that while leveling my character I will write here what I think of the game and what MY experience of it is. Since I have neither love or hate for the game or the franchise (never played GW seriously) this will not be a “i love anet” or “buthurt casual player” Topic. And as I have both played casually and extremely hardcore I can see what people likes in both gamestyles. See it as my own little personal blog, and my first review of a game, if you will.

The topic will be split into several parts, mostly depending on how much time I can give it. And when I hit 80 I will give it a score based on my personal experience.

I wont be pouring all my free time into this and it may take a while. And my primary focus will be on the PvE as I level up.

Thanks for letting me share here and I hope someone can enjoy reading this later!

Oh, alittle off-topic but if someone has a guild that wants a player that learns fast and is not the worst addition you could find. Please, send me a PM. Will write server and name soon.

Part 1/2
Level 1-60

As I have tried to survive backpain from hell this week, one of the reasons I’ve made this post in the first place, I have had alot of time to dump on this game. I’ll not go into details in what I have done to level up but it have so far only been PvE. I made a Sylvari necromancer and have been playing with conditions and no minions. I’ll talk about what I personally think about some of the core functions in this game.

My first impression as I create my character is that costumization on the characters is pretty basic . It’s all there, hairstyles, colors and even some small modifications to the body and face. Nothing special though. Some more hairstyles wouldnt hurt, but then again I’m not missing anything. It bothered me alittle that I had absolutely no information in how it would affect my character if I for instance chose to have the skull or a mask as my helmet item. It wouldn’t hurt to give me atleast a hint or something. But then again, nothing that bothered me too much.

The hearts(quests) and events are actually a kind of nice approach to what otherwise just seems like mindless grinding. I can actually chose if I want to pick flowers or just buttonmash every red name I see. Makes it more variated and if I get stuck between some mobs and the flowers I need it’s not a problem. Just kill the mobs instead and get a instant complete, god I love that instant complete and that I don’t have to actually accept anything from NPC’s. This works out great, it is by far superior to other questsystems and it atleast gives me this feeling that I can play as I want to play. I see alot of repeating hearts that doesn’t really do anything new though, it’s mostly some new skins on the monsters and new names on the items but some extent of variation is there. And if I missed that first part of an event it’s no problem to just jump in and help for both loot and experience. Love it.

The jumping and exploration part of the game is also one of the more fun addons I’ve seen in a mmo. And hey, I get experience and even items from it. This makes exploration more fun and personally rewarding. This part needs some work though, I don’t know if it’s just me but the character just feels extremely glitchy and strange when jumping. It’s like in this world the gravity is double what it is in real life. I have also encountered parts where I actually get stuck and have to portal away. I still like it though, 100% on all the parts I’ve been leveling in so far!

Crafting in this game is also rewarding and this is a part in most other games that I absolutely hate. It’s always so boring and the only reason I’d do it would be to get that extra bonus when I have it maxed. In this game, I get a good load of experience and how I discover new recipes is just genious. I like it, and as far as I can tell it doesn’t really need that much of a work. The gui is perfect for keeping tabs on all your mats and everything else is pretty much straight forward.

I do think that some more variation on the mobs could’ve been there. It’s pretty much the same mobs with higher levels, everywhere. Just another skin and some lore to back it up does alot, atleast for me. This is also appliable to equipment. I didn’t look like I had something new on me from level 10-50. And to make it worse it looked like I was going to a gentleman danceclub or something. I’m a god kitten necromancer kitten it, where’s my ragged evil robe and skullhelmet?

Underwater combat is something that I absolutely hate. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s actually fun that they made something out of it. But if I can avoid it I do, I can’t really say why. Maybe the fact that I feel so kitten or something. It just feels.. meh..

Needless to say I like this game, I’ll level this character to 80 and go trough some PvP, Dungeons and some late game stuff. Oh, and Guilds of course!

Just my five cents

I think you should have said this in wordpad but oh well! Welcome back!

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

80 is not a accomplishment in this game. You can reach it playing in 1-15 zones.

This game is a sandbox game at level 80.
