Howdy Gurus,

I am a new player to GW2. Although I have actually purchased it since launch but I never played it that much. 2 weeks ago, I have been back to the game with full eager and almost spending all my time playing it. I leveled a warrior successfully to level 80 around 5 days ago and its pretty much fun till now. Been reading the forums and guides over the internet to even learn some tricks and tips to get better and better in-game, however, there are some terms that I need to know so I can understand what topics are talking about. I’ll be very glad if somebody assisted me.

First: I read alot about builds, where you combine weapons with traits and skills to make a set that suits your playstyle the best. However, the only one I knew and read about was the “Zerker” since I’m mainly a warrior and I mainly do PVE/Dungeons. Now, I’m interested in knowing the other names of other builds. What do they mean? What are the other builds names? Like Shout or glasscanon. What are those?

I knew zerker is one with attributes Power, Percision and Ferocity, so what are other builds names/attributes?

Thanks so much in advance.

Sup, I decided to check gw2 out (again) with a hope that with the whole living story 2 and megaservers something changed. And looks like when it comes to pve, nothing changed.

In short : zerker is a full glass cannon build, and it is the only build people need in pve. Every class has to stack in one place, get a weapon with AoE auto attack and just sit there and watch the mob go down. That is basically it for regular dungeons. Make sure to grind useless anchievements or people won’t invite you to groups because for some reason they require certain amount of anchievement points.

Zerker comes from Berserker, and it’s the prefix given to armor/trinkets that give boosts to Power/Precision/Ferocity.

A list of the possibilities can be found here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature

Other attributes can be found here -

They range from full offensive stats (Berserker’s, Assassin’s etc.) to largely defensive stats (the new stat Nomad’s comes to mind).

With regards to Shout I’m guessing you referring to a Shout Heal Warrior. Basically the build involves using two traits from that Tactics line, Lung Capacity and Vigorous Shouts -

Glass cannon is a generic term for pure-damage builds. They hit hard (like a cannon) but have little/no defense so they shatter like glass if they get hit. In GW2 it’s synonymous with zerker (short for beserker) because that’s the equipment prefix/suffix that gives pure damage stats.

Although you could potentially have glass cannon builds that use other stat combinations, the important thing is that they’re pure damage.

Generally speaking builds are named after their defining feature, either a stat combintion, a skill or weapon or sometimes a type of skill.

But when copying them it’s important to remember that the name-sake isn’t the only thing required for it to work. If someone recommended using a rifle warrior (random example) for something you couldn’t just give your existing warrior a rifle and expect it to work as advertised, you’d need to make sure you have the skills, traits, gear etc. to go with it.

(I think this was more of an issue in GW1 where builds were normally named after a single skill, and some people thought they could just use that skill + anything they felt like and it would work. But it’s still worth bearing your mind, especially with traits because many builds rely on specific traits to work.)
