Hello! I had a good friend purchase the game for me during the 75% sale a few days ago. Much like a lot of forum threads on this same subject in the past, I want to join where my friend is, on Tarnished Coast, but it’s consistently Full and it may be a long while before I find that server available.

In the meantime, I was thinking of just going on any other random server just so I can get a feel for the game, the mechanics, and the different classes/races while I wait for TC to become open for new characters.

Now, my main questions are as follows:

I have read that server transfers are free as long as you have no active characters, so if I delete them all I can freely switch to another server. Is this still true? And if it is, are there certain time restrictions connected with it (i.e. do I have to wait 7 days between transfers like the paid-for transfers)?

Also, while I am on another server am I still capable of watching for Tarnished Coast to open up for new characters on the world list? Or do I only gain access to that info until after I’ve paid/prepared for a server transfer via deleting my characters?

I have also read that there’s a sort of account storage, where items can be kept and saved regardless of deleting your characters. Is this available from the get-go, or do you have to reach a certain level to access it?

I’m basically just wondering if I can still play while I watch for TC to open up, and as soon as it does if I can just clean out the character’s inventory into the account storage, delete him, and immediately hop on to TC with next to no downtime.

Yes, you can transfer for free if you delete all characters.

Yes, there is the waiting period between transfers. (But you only want to transfer once, right?)

Yes, you can see the status of all servers from you character login screen. It says ‘World Selection’ on the low left.

You have a bank. To access the bank go to any capital city and look for an icon that looks like a coin pouch/sack. Also all crafting stations work as banks.

Thank you so much for the info, that helps a ton! Yeah, I only want to transfer one time, once I find TC to be open. It sounds like the time limit only occurs after the initial transfer, so I won’t have to worry about any downtime unless I do something stupid like frequent server hopping.

And yeah, my friend is kinda into WvW, so I wanted to be able to join up with him when he did so! Can’t do that without being on TC. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult finding an opening soon!
