Forgive me if I’m not up to date on some kind of effects but the newbie areas seem to be sporting harder effects with mobs and events [including champs that were once lesser mobs]. I rolled a new toon recently and haven’t spent this much time visiting repair npcs since pre paid beta. I was just wondering if its event based or some kind of compensation for high lvl players constantly farming newbie zones. Ya I know the ur so lame brag festers will jump in but there really is a noticeable change.

So i am not the only one. I kept dying with my new chars. I thought it was just the lack and number of events in the starter area making me underleveled. But in the last few weeks i started an human, norn and asura, For every character i had to go to the other zones to get my level up before i could continue in the original zone.

I have recently leveled a character from start and I did not find it more difficult- it depends on which area you are talking about, since some low level zones are much harder than others.
Also I don’t know if you have been taking a break but low level bosses are now very lucrative, so you might be experiencing an upscale of bosses due to more players in the general area.

To answer your original question, I don’t think they were buffed as this would be really unfair to new players

Actually I think it’s more of a lack of events, some seem to be triggered by how active is the area. At least that’s how it feels, areas that are more active seem to have more events going on than areas that are more empty.

I remember back at release it was events left and right, I guess because of the amount of people that were just starting and doing them. In my experience, events is where most of the leveling XP comes from. These days seems that a big chunk of the people in lower level areas are downleveled 80’s either doing daily or monthly achievements (killing veterans, for example), or waiting for the big bonus chest bosses to spawn, they tend to gather around the level 15-20 areas that are near where the bosses show up.

Back at release I do remember being most of the times downleveled, playing my new warrior I’ve found myself a lot of times in level 10 or so areas while still being level 6. Maybe a solution could be to increase the amount of XP you get from completing hearts, at least in the first few levels.

It’s a pile of Elonian protection magic, mixed with a little monk training,
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

Could your issue be class-based? At early levels, some classes are more durable or easier to level than others. The only “new” champion I’ve seen in starter zones was a level 3 Champion Risen Broodmother in Caledon Forest. For all I know it’s been there a long time, and I missed it on previous trips through the zone.

I feel sorry for new players with all of events spawning with multiple veterans and/or champions. Anet – really needs to either stop spawning events when there are too few players on a map or scale the events to the number of players. I’m getting sick of having 2 or 3 events spawn on top of me when there are no other players on the map, even in lower level areas.

Ascalon has a lot of bugged areas where the enemies just keep on coming. Friggin respawn there is faster than you can kill. Maguma and Shiverpeaks seem okay though. Don’t know anything about Kryta. I’m rarely there.

Event spawning is almost solely controlled by player interraction with local npcs, but a lot of players do not realize this let alone what kinds of actions will spawn events.

So you get these folks who think there are too many or too few. It is like seeing people on a freeway who do not know why the car they are driving is going too slow or too fast.

I am leveling my 5th character through starter areas (well more than 5th, I’ve deleted a few alts in the past, but have 4 80’s). I am finding this run to be the easiest by far, which I attribute entirely to the profession I am playing. I am leveling a Ranger, and I have a Thief, Ele, Mes and War at 80. There was definitely a difference in difficulty based on profession, but I don’t notice any difference in actual enemies.

In terms of what profession I found easiest to hardest for leveling?
Ranger > Thief > Mesmer > Warrior > Ele

I’ve levelled up primarily in Queensdale/Kessex, but I do venture to the other territories as well.

I also wish that dynamic events spawned MORE often in starter areas. They are a great way to level up and gain experience/money, and I often find myself running in circles trying to find them.

I don’t think anything has changed. I think it may be that you are used to playing higher level characters in these zones and you are able to take more chances than when you first started off. Combine learning a new class with an underpowered character and I think it is reasonable to die more often.
