Newly Acquired Items Now Light Up
I’d prefer it if it didn’t include things you already have stacks of and only things that are actually new.
Glad to see someone likes the glowing effect. I find it particularly annoying and wish there was an option to turn it off.
It’s such a shame that making all these changes does require much work on Anet’s part yet there are SO many more important UI changes just to bring Gw2 UI up to Gw1 functionality such as a return of the fully customisable UI of Gw1 with the ability to separate tabs such as chat tab and combat log in particular. For Wvw this is highly annoying as is the loss of the 4 panel weapon swap module. Once upon a time a long long time ago, one could resize EVERY element of the UI. ;(

Glad to see someone likes the glowing effect. I find it particularly annoying and wish there was an option to turn it off. Why l find it so annoying is that there are SO many more important UI changes that need to be made, just to bring Gw2 up to Gw1 standards such as a return of the fully customisable UI of Gw1 such as the ability to separate tabs such as the inability to separate chat tab and combat log. For Wvw tyhis is particularly annoying. Sigh for the days when one could resize every element of the UI. at will.
There is… click the little wheel in the top right of your inventory and click “hide new item flash”
There is an option to turn it off .. in the … erm … Options.
Vanishing Legacy (VALE)
I kind of like this feature (sometimes I have a hard time finding things in my bags bc I don’t always compact, so they dont always go to the end). I think the brightness needs to be toned down slightly though.
I could go either way with the things that stack though, lighting up when I got another one. shrug

You can make separate chat tabs…
The first thing I did after noticing this change was look for some way to turn it off. The glow is too bright and it doesn’t have any additional value to me.
I know what I keep in my inventory permanently, and anything else is new and requires sorting anyway. The glow just made it impossible to see what all the new stuff was in the first place.
Glad they had the good sense to include the off-switch right away.
Open inventory and click the gear icon in the top right. Among the list to deposit materials to bank and hide/show your bags is an option to turn it it on and off.
It is too bright and lasts FOREVER. Why Anet, do things that popup (event completion, highlighting) stay on forever and not go away after 10 seconds? Put a timer on those things, they’re unnecessary. No notification should stay ON all the time, it’s not a post-it note…
It’s too bright, it obscures the rarity highlighting and the salvage highlighting. Figure something else out that doesn’t screw over your other options like:
1. A small badge or color swatch in one of the corners of the item for rarity.
2. Salvage highlighting should be a color overlay based on salvagability (red/green) and/or rarity if #1 is ignored for this.
3. New item highlighting should only last for a few seconds, not eternity – this is where the inconvenience is.
@Lil Puppy: As mentioned earlier, you can disable this option completely if you don’t like it. (I disabled it at once.) Click on the gear icon in your Inventory window. The option is in there.
Anet, seriously… BRAVO!!!!
I can really appreciate you putting in a feature that some people might find useful but others could easily find annoying… AND you implemented a way to turn it OFF (or ON) from the start! That’s what I’m talkin’ about!
If some people don’t like the feature for whatever reason, fine… no problem. Two clicks and.. BAM! Everything is back to the way it was. NICEEE!
Please keep this kind of implementation up!
Thank you!
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP!!!!
I thought it was neat at first. Then the novelty wore off and it was obnoxious as heck, so I promptly turned it off. It’s nice that there’s an option to do so, so that’s definitely a plus.
What I don’t like is how items that can’t be salvaged have an annoying red tint over the whole icon. Minor issue to be sure, but still.
The glow effect is interesting, but it’s actually more of a glare effect to my poor eyes. If they could make it glow around the edges without obscuring the item image with glare it’d be a little better.
I like the idea, but have some issues with it.
The “glow” feels weird to my eyes. I agree with the above poster on that. I also wish it wouldn’t take forever. It should have a timer, as well as disappear faster than what it currently does when you put your cursor on it.
For now, I have it disabled as well, but I’m hoping to see it polished someday.
I like it.
It’s not something I really thought about before, but now it’s there I do find it useful.

I like this, but it’s too bright. It makes it too hard to see what you actually have. They need to make it slightly less visible.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
I think the glow needs to be lowered. I like the idea, but it’s so bright that I can’t tell what it is I’ve got. It’s just a bunch of white squares.
While i appreciate the thought i will have to turn it off, it’s too strong and became very annoying to me, imo it should be more subtle, softer.

Same. I had to turn it off because it obscured the items and lasted way too long.
If you find the highlighting useful but excessive this may come in handy: I just found out that if you click an item once it removes the highlighting.
So you can use the glow to quickly see what’s new, then click it to see what it is (if you can’t already tell, some icons are pretty recognisable even with the glow).
