Next major content update likely in April
Hmm…doesn’t really say anything about what may or may not be released between now and then. Just that that particular update will possibly address some HoT-map concerns.

Yeah. That’s why I had the last line about assuming only one release schedule. I vaguely remembered that the quarterly updates would be for balancing but when I saw the post, it led me to believe that they were combining them.
I guess we can wait to see if they clarify.
Well, the Blog pretty much stated there wouldn’t be much between now and then.
Still, we never know….sometimes things are ready before they are expected, and we get them early.

Quarterly Update would mean April for the next one. That being said there are “surprises” the news Raid Wing, and some other things coming out BEFORE the next quarterly update.
The break down from Colin on Reddit goes like this:
Correct! Not only approx every 12 weeks will we do a big seasonal update. You’ll also see updates between seasonal updates.
Content like raids, pvp leagues, living world, festivals, and WvW tournaments are all things you’d find happening between seasonal updates as the year progresses. (this “winter” season we’ve got a festival, raid, and pvp league kick off planned before spring.)
Things like new fractals, new legendaries, WvW updates, new PvP maps, quality of life updates, etc. are all the type of stuff that’d come with our seasonal updates.
Hope that helps a bit!

Good to know. I haven’t revisited that thread yet to see his update.
Is Reddit a more authoritative source for Anet staff comments than the forums ?
It would be so nice if we had a thread to go in the forums for comments like this.

We do. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dev-quotes-from-Reddit/first
Unless you mean they should be posting initially here, in which case you may wish to weigh in on https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/So-Reddit-Wins-Again/first#content (or at least read it, as it has a Red response and the last post indicates it may be locked).
As for the original course of this thread, I think they did say that the fixes discussed would take some time, so I wasn’t expecting them before the big April patch anyway, unless they happen to be ready sooner.

There’s this which is maintained by a poster on the forums. Keep in mind that it’s not a discussion thread.
There’s also the following if you’re not completely against going to Reddit.

ANet Staff Comment on Forums/Reddit on their own time (it’s been stated numerous times they don’t tell people where to post and no one that works at ANet aside form the Community team HAVE to post). They do it because they want to or they have a free moment. Many of them post on their off days or after work on Reddit.

Yeah I wasn’t expecting much till April. ANet never seem to do much new content wise after Christmas/New Year. I was bored of the HoT maps after running through the meta on each one 2-3 times, expect DS. Done it once, have no interest in doing it again. Lunar new year was the same snore fest as it has been every year for me. I don’t like dragon ball, never have.
Dailies are the only thing keeping me playing at the moment, and they are slowly losing there appeal. Something new like a story or a map not on a timer would be great.

This game moves waaaaay to slowly
I think people are confused about ANet’s word choices (and no wonder — they never really define it). For the sake of the thread, we can consider three types of changes to the game:
- Bug Fixes. These can happen any time and are posted as addenda to existing ‘patch notes’. More often during ANet business hours, but in emergencies, at other times, too.
- Updates. These are changes to mechanics, not just fixes. They significantly change something in the game, although hardly ever “change the game” for us. They almost never happen outside of a planned Tuesday release during business hours. They sometimes get their own page; it doesn’t seem consistent to me.
- Major Content Updates. This adds new stuff to the game in a way that affects what or how we play.
- Game Changing Updates. This is when the game is turned upside down. It includes free stuff (like the wardrobe, WvW season 1 & 2) and the expac.
In 2014, we got type (3) every other week during peak periods — Living Story updates plus something new mechanic wise plus new items. We also got type (4) irregularly, but several times during the year.
In 2015, we saw hardly any of (3) or of (4), with the exception of the end of LS2 and the expac.
In 2016, ANet is saying that we are going to get (4) every 3 months or so and they haven’t said anything about type (3). Based on what we’ve seen so far, we can expect to see some of this type of thing, just not every two weeks like we had in much of 2014.
tl;dr Quarterly Updates is about major, game-changing patches; it doesn’t address other updates that we might get. I personally speculate that we’ll see other stuff in between the ‘quarterlies’.
You mean the major content update we will get on April 1st?
Jokes on us.
It was also reported that the next raid wing is dropping in March.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s going to sound bad but ….
Was no one at anet thinking hey this expansion should roll out and tie right into the next story and we should have that ready to go within 2 months ?
I just can’t possibly believe that they don’t have it atleast written, and designed that just seems incredibly short sighted.

Those were my thoughts heading into the expansion and were one of the major reasons I didn’t purchase it. I felt like they would tie an entire season that would start about 2-3 months after the “ending” of the expansion. The season would last a year. That didn’t sound like my cup of tea as it would feel like frontloaded payment for content. All the details were super murky. There’s so much stuff they said was coming with the expansion that isn’t even here yet and we are almost at 4 months after the fact.
I didn’t buy Street Fighter either for the same reason. Game companies are doing this more and more where they sell you the core of a game and promise you they are building into it for the future. When exactly?
ArenaNet: “Hey, pay us up front for all this cool stuff that is coming in the future.”
Me: “Hey, in the future, how about just giving me all the cool stuff up front when I pay for it?”
Arenanet: Cleaning area’s is the main focus of april
