You can not please the world
One man, on his way from town to home, rode a donkey, while his son, boy about ten years old, walked along on foot. A woman met them on the road and said:
- It is not right, brother, for you to ride on a donkey and your child to walk on foot. Your legs are stronger then his.
Then the old man dismounted from the donkey, put his child in the saddle and continued. A bit further, other woman met them and said:
- It is not nice of you, lad, to ride on a donkey while your father walks on foot. Your legs are much younger than his.
After hearing that, both father and son mounted donkey and continued. Third woman met them and said:
- What kind of silliness is this, two old monkey riding a poor, weak animal. Someone should get a stick and beat you both properly.
Then both father and son dismounted donkey and continued on foot. Each from one side of a donkey. Fourth woman met them and said:
- How strange, the three of you, are. Isn’t it enough for two to walk on foot? Would it not be easier for one of you to ride?
Then father said to son:
- Well, both of us rode the donkey. Now is his turn to ride us.
Father and son put donkey on the ground, tied his legs to a pole and started carrying donkey. As women they came across laughed at them and stared, father droped donkey on the ground, untied his legs and yelled:
- I am even more crazy than this donkey, for i am trying to please the whole world! From now on i will do with my monkey as i please. And people can say whatever they want.
After, father mounted the donkey and they continued home, with child walking on foot beside them.
