I was thinking earlier it would be really nice if I could simply set a nickname for myself so that every time I type in guild chat it says my nickname instead of my character name. It would make it easier for everyone in the guild cause they wouldn’t have to memorize all my characters names or have to go and look at my account name to check to see who it is. Think you could look into implementing this please? Thanks

Which is an awkward work-around for people who didn’t think to do that or whose creativity runs in other directions.

However, speaking as someone who doesn’t use a theme with name nor an account name that is easily spelled (never mind remembered), I’m okay with the current setup. Folks will eventually learn to look at my account name (& connect it to my in-game nick name)… or they won’t. Any confusion for folks who don’t is temporary, at worst.

I’ll support this idea. This is a pretty standard feature in a lot of “guild” based online games, so it was always kind of alarming to me that it was absent here. Your account name/nickname should definitely be available (either as an option or by default) when you post in guild chat.

What if there was an option for guild chat to show your account name instead of your character name? I suspect that would be easier for Anet to add than the option to give each person in your guild a nickname and it’d have the same effect of giving each person a consistent name to be known by.

It’d have to be an option you could turn on and off (ideally separate for each guild) because otherwise it’d mess things up for role-playing guilds.
