No HoT discount for owners of the game?
Just pay the $40 and move on. If you enjoy the game who cares. If they shaved off ten dollars would you feel accomplished? It is not a big deal friendo.
Your kinda beating a dead horse by now. The original gw2 is now free to play. The only reason there are restrictions is to prevent botting which many players, including myself don’t want in the game. When the next expansion comes out, you will probably get HoT free with purchase of the next expansion. This is simply due to devaluation. The reason there was an uproar is frankly because many people in the community cannot understand these concepts and therefore acted like self entitled brats.

It’s only $30 now. That’s nearly half-price. How much discount were you looking for?
You can always wait and try to find it in the bargain bin after the next expansion is released.
Good luck.
if you don’t see the benefit of the years you owned the game for and all the living world content that was available for free upon logging in then as well, then I’m not sure what to tell you.
someone purchasing now from f2p still has to buy the living world season 2 (1280 gems) as well as any season 3 episodes they weren’t around for, and completely missed out on season 1 and other one time events. pretty sure that negates any ‘saving’ they are supposed to be making over people who’ve played since the start.

It’s been remedied. It’s now $30€ where it used to be $60€. What more can you want than half price? If that’s still not good enough then wait for the next expansion and buy it then. You can buy it solo for a discount price or buy it with the next expansion. It will be folded in with that expansion. Of course the HoT maps will be mostly empty for a while while people are playing in the new areas but at least it will be cheap.
ANet may give it to you.
I just bought HoT last night for my daughters account. cdkeys.com and it was $16.98.

Just to point something about that site, Ubi:

Have a nice one.
I’m surprised to see that nothing has been done to remedy this in the time that I spent away from the game.
There was a reaction to the uproar.
Veteran players received an extra character slot for a limited time during HoTs release window.
Sorry to say, but coming back after almost 2 years after the expansion was released and asking for stuff is futile. Your benefit is that HoT has since droped in price drastically.
If you so concerned about value, wait until the next expansion gets announced. You might get a free upgrade to HoT for you base account with the next release (which is scheduled for end of this year if everything works out).
(which is scheduled for end of this year if everything works out)
Pre-purchasing it however could be as soon as next month. If the rumor turns out to be true, that ArenaNet is planning on yearly half priced expansions, hence the price drop at such an odd time, it’s actually available right now.
WoW sells the base game and all prior XPacs for one low price. They then charge the full going rate for their latest XPac. Oh, and you only rent their game. They don’t give any discounts to Vets.
The only difference between Blizzard’s policy ANet’s is that ANet gives a better deal to the new players. I wish they’d rescind that policy, require new players to buy a core+older XPacs bundle and then the new XPac. If the price of old XPac+Core were to drop to $10 or $20 when the new pack releases, the financial burden on new players would be greater than now, but at least the rationale behind thinking that new customers are getting a better deal would be removed.

Selling the expansion by itself and everything else bundled together for $30 would actually be a better deal for new players and a better experience. The one box model may sound good if you know nothing about the game, but what they don’t tell you is that each season is sold separately at a fixed price. Season 2 + 3 is an extra $30 in gems and with the current plans, each future expansion will add another $10.

That’s a solid point — and it would still remove this justification for the veteran player entitlement complaints.
Maybe… just maybe… Anet is selling an expansion for its full price and discounting prior expansions and the core game at zero cost.

No maybe about it. That’s exactly what they did with HoT, and absent any update to their policy, it’s what they’ll do with EoUN (Expansion of Uncertain Name). However, that policy leaves them open to criticism from the OP and those who think like him (?). Healix’ suggestion would remove the justification used by those people, which would at least force them to find some other aspect of the price to kitten and moan about.
This really doesn’t make sense to me, considering that F2P players unlock more (removing restrictions + HoT content) by purchasing HoT than people who already own the game do.
I remember there was a big uproar in the community when this happened for this very reason, and I guess I’m surprised to see that nothing has been done to remedy this in the time that I spent away from the game.
Many vendors have sales on games around holidays. Including Amazon, as wel las a bunch of others where HoT prices are drastically lower and reduced over A-Nets prices. I recommend getting your expansion from one of those on such a sale. Next big one in US will be around labor day, not sure about EU, Asia or Australia.
I bought the HoT package shortly after launch as a new player. I can safely say I have not been disappointed at all with the purchase, I have even bought gems to expand storage space and character slots.
There are games out that aren’t nearly as enjoyable, cost more, have little to no support from developers and a generally terrible community. Where as this game seems to be updated regularly, has a good community that for the most part plays well together, a good large world with plenty of story and albeit sometimes annoyingly time consuming components it, but its worth the money being charged for it. I don’t see that there’s anything to remedy.
It’s sad seeing people looking in someone else’s basket and complaining that they have the same things. The new players have the living worlds they missed, there’s absolutely no need to alienate them to make a “veteran” happy that it’s harder on them.
It’s only $30 for HoT… this game has zero monthly access fee… geez…
It’s 2017 peeps… anet has 400 employees to feed… taxes to pay… a game to produce… and for a mere $30 you get unlimited access to a really great game… Like what do some of you really expect?

I left Guilds Wars 2 when HOT came out because I could not really afford it. I tried 3-4 other games and have read lots of things about another 3-4. None of the ones I played are nearly as fun as this game is and the ones I only read about did not look good either. I finally was able to get HOT about 2 weeks ago at $30 and do not regret it and have been playing the game every day since. The HOT maps are harder and the Revenant is kind of tough to start, but it’s been worth the price I paid for it. $30 is not bad at all for the new content the expansion brought to the game.
to be honest, if you havent bought hot, but own the core game. Just wait for next xpac and buy it instead. It will be bascially the same price as HoT when it first came out and it’s supposed to also unlock all previous xpansions. At least that is what i recall how this direction was going to work back when hot came out.
As others have mentioned already, this was a huge topic 2 years ago, not so much now. Here is a link to anet’s policy which they announced one their website so that everyone out understand it clearly. The final couple paragraphs ar especially relevant.
