No Patch next week... Confirmed
Just because content is temporary, does not mean that it is not content.
True, but my point is: if you compare GW2 on release day and GW2 as it is right now, it doesn’t have as much content as you say it has. It had content, but barely has anything new.
GW2 as it is now cannot be considered as having much new content, and the fact they keep pushing new things away with poor (and shameless) excuses is ridiculous.
I admit, GW2 is free, it’s beautiful and I really like the gameplay. But compared to what we were promised, it’s a shame, and the keep hitting the franchise while it’s on the ground (for players who lived GW1).
We cannot say ANet didn’t do anything, but we can’t say they did anything significant.
Son of Elonia.
Woudl the contents of the feature packs be considered ‘content’? if so then they seem to be missing from your list.
Those are feature packs, which contain features. I left features off of both lists except for LFG and cross server stuff since that revolutionized the MMO genre starting with WoW.
I also did both lists in compact form. I used the same form for WoW and GW2, GW2 just didn’t add nearly as much content as WoW did in the same time frame. You are welcome to type out an expanded list, just make sure you use the same format when you type up the comparison list for WoW. I don’t have enough time to type out the pages and pages it would take. I mean each zone in WoW contains a full LS worth of story and content through their quests, with special instances, voice over etc, just as GW2 LS does. The difference of course being that WoW released 10 seasons worth of that in 2 years as opposed to 2.
Of course looking back I left a couple of things off the WoW list. They also added in a new crafting profession and expanded all existing crafting professions (as opposed to just 3/4 of them like GW2)
they even did not add content equal to gw1 first 2 years. and you compare it with king of the hill?? dude this game can not be even compared to gw1((in terms of content addition)) yet wow, lol
Read my posts. I stated that there was perement content and temporary content. Both are considered content.
If I get it right, you’ve got temporary money on your bank account, but if it reaches 0, you still have it since it’s money (even if it’s temporary).
So temporary is permanent because even if it’s invisible it still exists. Therefore permanent is permanent and temporary is temporary.
Makes total sense.
Wow lol
Nah seriously, your logic is hard to get.
They did some job BUT removed it, and we should still consider they made it and that is it part of the final product we have, and we should understand that after two years they did twice more than what we see.
So, as a translator, I erased a third of the chapters I already translated (the first ones!), and I release a book, everyone must understand that I did my job yet removed content, but you can’t say I didn’t do what I had to do since I did it for the lucky ones that could witness my translating process.
Just because content is temporary, does not mean that it is not content.
Actually that is exactly what it means…. It is no longer content, hence “temporary”
Not that it matters, I put it in the list anyway, but you are still upset since the WoW list dwarfs the GW2 one. It’s ok, i’m just as upset as you are that Anet has been so terrible at delivering content. I keep hoping that if the players draw attention to it they will improve their game, but it seems to be a losing battle.
I do not understand why ArenaNet are deliberately trying to kill this game!
Almost ZERO content has been added since release, and any content that is added is either finished within an hour or removed.I do not understand why you feel the need to deliberately post false statements!
If he’s going to argue that there’s no content, the least you could do is back up your response. Cause’ right now you’re going to lose this battle my friend.
Technically it’s up to the one stating there’s a lack of content to post their evidence as they’re the one who made the argument first.
My friend, you are not diving deep enough into this argument. Look forward not back.
Yeah… Still doesn’t change the fact that it’s not on him to provide the evidence. Arnath stated that almost zero content was added without provide any proof and mtpelion challenged it.
If you want, I can state that the state the Earth is flat, have you challenge this, and then say that you must prove me wrong.
You can’t prove that something doesn’t exist, how would you do that exactly? It is up to you to prove that there has been a substantial amount of content added.
Like this:
In the first 2 years of WoW Blizzard released:
8 new dungeons
5 new raids
10 new zones
1 new race
500+ quests
6 PvP maps
2 PvP modes
10 new levels
20+ new skills
50+ new talents
LFg system
Cross server system (first of its kind ever)
4 FestivalsWoW is considered the golden standard of MMO’s, your job would be to show that GW2 does indeed release a similar amount of content. (Hint: it doesn’t).
Ahh yes the old use a logical fallacy to end the argument when you lose….
Here I’ll start for you:
Number of zones added: 3*
New zones are 1/3 the size or smaller than original game zones
Number of new races: 0
Number of new classes: 0
Number of new legendary’s: 0
Number of new dungeons: 1
1 dungeon also removed
Number of new raids: 0
Number of new quests(DE’s): ~50
LFG Added
Fractals Added
New PvP modes: 1
Removed from rotation
New PvP maps: 3
One removed, one removed from rotation
Number of LS episodes: 29*
**22 removedNote: This was over 2.5 years as opposed to WoW’s Two years
Would you say that GW2 released a reasonable amount of content in those 2 years as compared to WoW?
Sorry but those items are not the definitive list of what counts as content. Those of us playing since release have experienced a wealth of content rather than the argued “almost zero”.
Umm that is literally ALL the content added to this game since launch… D
Just off the top of my head, you missed:
Guild Missions
New Jumping Puzzles
New Minigames
New Minidungeons
New Worldbosses
Edge of the Mists
Megaserver
Im not saying the game has been as expansive or aggressive in releases as a game like WoW (in its first 2 years), but I think you are deliberately putting on blinders because the content weve received isnt necessarily the content you wanted.
There is a valid topic worthy of discussion here regarding the pace of content delivery vs player expectations (I was a little disappointed in the news about the next LS step myself), but the hyperbole and exaggerations from some are making it harder – not easier – to actually have that conversation.
Read my posts. I stated that there was perement content and temporary content. Both are considered content.

He is right though, your temporary content is worth NOTHING for this game. Not for new players that never experienced it, nor for veterans, as they cannot play it either anymore.
It is as useless as a infinite coin for SAB.
To new players, no. They never got to experience this content. For players since the release, yes. With season two, they made more permanent after the requests of many players. It is unfortunate that season one was not initially done like this as well.
The deal is however, is you and every other player are test subjects. This might be why this particular thing has come up over and over. We are all testing out Arenas ideas, and when they flop, we are either stuck with them, for extreme lengths of time or they just completely get removed.
So here we all are, in a flood of “basically the same game since release” with bugs that people have complained about since almost day one. It doesn’t even matter the amount of content, it matters more so how things are now, 2.5 years out of release. Including everything that’s wrong with the game, at it’s core.
I find it completely contradictory that they are reading the forums, but not responding to the most popular complaints, at all. If they do respond, it’s about as equal to a pat on the back.
Can we all honestly be ok with a 2+ year beta on the Mac client? The priorities in this company are mind boggling. Not that i even play on a mac, but still.
Geez, guys calm down. The LS wasn’t that great that it’s worth the amount of whining in this thread.
Sorry, but in my opinion gw2 would be far worse if they would cut or skip the nice festival-events like Wintersday or Halloween just for the sake of the LS. I’m sure if they did this, the forum would be flooded with hate-threads…
Let’s just give the devs the benefit of the doubt, that they will make better decisions for the gameplay and content in the new year.Yeah, because they’ve made such excellent decisions this year. I totally agree that it’s terrible that they skip festival content in favor of living story, though. Like SAB and Dragon Bash.
they never have to skip festival event it can come a weak after LS or even along with LS considering the festival event is same as last year with minor changes, what they did was to use festival as excuse to take another break and end year with unfinished ls season, that is lazy kind of work.
Sorry, my sarcasm font must’ve been bugged there. We are in agreement, but I’m pointing out that there’s a flaw in the argument that it’s great that they’re not skipping over festival content, since they actually are skipping over festival content- Dragon Bash and SAB were both stated as being incompatible with the storyline of the living story.
My deadpan is too dead sometimes.
Blaeys, megaservers aren’t content.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
The Living Story was chosen over the expansion model as they wanted to have a world that would continually evolve over time and to maintain a consistent level of active players. The latter is difficult with the long development cycle of expansions.
They did this throughout season one of the living story. Those of us present during that got to experience all of the content provided through those releases. Those who were unable to play for whatever reasons unfortunately did not get to experience this content. Many players complained about a lot of the content being temporary so season two was made to be much more permanent so that players could go back at a later time and replay it.
Content whether temporary or permanent is still content. Those present during the season one releases got to experience them as if they had been permanent content. The content itself was not devalued as content because it was only temporary at that time. Many of us enjoyed the Marrionette encounter despite it being temporary.
Am I the only one that’s happy we get time dedicated to the Wintersday stuff?
Admittedly I’m probably coming from a different perspective to a lot of people here – since launch I’ve only played for just over 2,000 hours so I still have a lot to do with the base game and over Christmas I’m always away for about 2 weeks.
Between the two having a temporary update up for 4 weeks before we go back to new permanent content seems like a pretty good deal.
Plus you have to factor in that one of the main reasons for this is probably Anet wanting to be able to close the office for a week or two so everyone can spend time with their families, like most of the other people in the country will be doing at the same time.
I would be inclined to agree if it wasn’t for the fact that winterday is a 100% complete rehash of last year.
Breaking LS up with seasonal events isn’t necessarily bad, however if those same events are complete repeats of the previous year’s, I can’t see how that’s positive.
But we haven’t been able to play it for a year. Surely if people can somehow enjoy doing the same dungeon paths every day they’d enjoy replaying Wintersday content once a year?
Admittedly if I was doing the same dungeons every day I think I’d go mad (or more likely go and play something else), but repeating something I last did a year ago will be enjoyable. Especially Bell Hero and the jumping puzzle.

I agree with you about the problems that have existed since release have not been resolved. I also agree about the lack of content towards areas of the game that many players gravitate towards (dungeons, WvW, PvP). This is something I hope they do resolve in the future.

The other issue is that LS2 has done absolutely nothing for any game mode besides open-world PvE. This makes it a real challenge to stay interested in the game if you aren’t into zergs.

Temporary content =/= content. You also use a number of generalizations when you say many of us. I am a new player and I want to experience this so-called content you are talking about, but I can’t my friend. I log’d in game and it does not exist. You decided to focus on a few nostalgia.

Yes. The existing content from season one can no longer be experienced today. It was still content which was the point of my original argument. Anet learned from this with season two and created more permanent content. Hopefully in the future, they also add content for the areas of the game that players also play in such as dungeons, PvP, and WvW.

I use generalizations because it’s impossible for me to given an exact number. A large percentage of the player base as experienced some, if not all, of season one. Season one releases may not be considered content by those who could not experience it, but it was still content for those that could.

So are Carrier Pigeons =/= Pigeons because they are extinct?
Are Dinosaurs not real simply because they are all dead?
The fact that content was present and is no longer present does not change the fact that the content was present. It is, therefore, content.
It is simply content that means nothing to you because you didn’t get to experience it.
my friend.
Just wanted you to know: You’ve gotten this stuck in my head now :-P
Just off the top of my head, you missed:

I don’t count server mergers as a positive, or content, WoW has done some Server mergers as well.
I certainly did leave off Guild missions, completely slipped my mind. I’ll have to check when WoW added in their guild updates, might be l\missing from their list too.
JP’s are really just part of the maps, but I can certainly add them to the list.
World Bosses were left off both lists, WoW added 8 World bosses that I can find, and GW2 added a similar number, forgot about those as well.
Which mini games? There were some as part of festivals, which it seems I also left off the GW2 list, I will add that too.
I did forget about the mini dungeons, they were added so soon after launch that I thought they were there at launch.
Also forgot edge of the mists and WvW ranks, both of which should be added.
I’ll post an updated list shortly. Unfortunately none of this changes the reality… a dozen new dungeons, each with 90+ minutes of play, plus hard modes for each, raids with 10+ bosses, 5x more zones, each significantly larger than the GW2 zones each which contain a self contained zone story, new crafting professions, new classes, new races. GW2 just hasn’t delivered anything of that caliber yet.
If temporary content becomes something else after it has run out its temporal limitation, it has two options:
1. Become permanent content.
2. End of existence, therefore no longer being content.
If option 2 is picked, there is no longer any content.
Some people here have a permanent problem in understanding the term temporary…
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
There’s one thing that no one appears to have thought of yet. Perhaps the original plan was to release the next episode on Dec. 16th with the Wintersday event, but after looking over what they had prepared and ready to go, A.net decided to postpone that release for another 4 weeks(from the 16th of Dec to Jan. 13th) to give them more time for polish and general tightening up. I’m not saying that’s the reason, but that is a possibility that no one has seemed to notice. The only reason I bring it up is because Rubi did say at the end of the last PoI that they’d see us again on the 16th, implying the next LS episode(if you like to read into things that people say).

It really doesn’t matter how much content they add when they break it. I can’t even give an exact number of people that gave up on guild missions post megaserver, again ducks in a row, vacant. Regardless, it was a lot…
We all know the stuff they added on top of the stuff that is utterly not worth the time. Rewards, effort put in, etc are all underlying symptoms of the greater issues. They could in fact release an expansion, but if they continue to ignore the fundamental flaws of the game, then why bother? Traits? No one cares about…
Until they go back to making a game they want to play, instead of depending on metrics and spreadsheets, this game will continue to fall away. I “know” there are plenty of people on the team that would love to build out some of the awesome ideas they have, but are squashed under the weight of numbers. The NPE is a perfect example of wasting time on “features” no one wanted and didn’t retain anything they thought it would. Starter zones are in fact, dead. Lacking the essential trait revamp…
Band-aids on gun-shot wounds.
We now have a new holiday Wintersmonth! Frankly maybe it’s my age showing but I just can’t throw snowballs for that long anymore.
Well it’s the winter break so we cant blame them. I do wish the winter update would bring back SAB, it’s been such a long time.
