Guild wars 1 did easter (chocolate bunnies drop, and so do golden eggs). It’s minor, but it’s there. They also do April Fools.
But…gw2 is a different game…so…obviously not? haha
Have no fear, BV is here!

We will be hosting an event. Small, but better than nothing. It will be on Yaks Bend.
Even if there won’t be a Gregorian Easter event tomorrow, hopefully there’ll at least be an event for Julian Easter, which this year is on May 5th (it’s admittedly unusually late this year, as Julian Easter is usually a week after after Gregorian Easter and is even on the same day once every few years).
They also didn’t do St. Patrick’s Day either. In GW1 they dropped clovers and I believe there was green ale.
Maybe next year?
What, no Passover event?
Its a religious holiday. Keep that crap out of the game.
About ten posts for things to go south, probably why there is no easter event. :P

Umm…
You are aware that Wintersday is based on, right? Christmas. Christmas is a religious celebration.
Also, Easter and St. Patrick’s Day were both celebrated in GW1 in small ways (random item drops). I see no reason why GW2 shouldn’t continue this trend.

I didn’t know the easter bunny and jesus were one and the same…
Jesus doesnt exist in this game. Theres no reason for Tyrians to celebrate Easter. However, there was beastly rabbit that terrorized a good part of the shiverpeaks, eating wolves , plucking worms out of the ground. The gross part was that it was a hermaphrodite, its had both genitals and would reporduce with itself and usually would leave half born fetisus laying around the mountains. Theyre not chocolate bunnies but we could collect those.

Well, I agree with you in spirit, but none of the fun stuff we ever do in fictional in-game “holidays” are actually religious in nature. Heck, none of the fun stuff in real-world holidays is necessarily religious, depending on what you’re into. And then you have Hallowe’en, which people don’t even seem to remember was originally a religious ritual in the first place. A lot of these holidays are widespread and well-known enough that people are sort of expecting something to happen, and any excuse to celebrate or do something a little different is welcome.
Plus, if you’re going to hold an annual special event of some kind in an MMO, it only makes sense that it coincides with an actual real-world calendar event so the players can come to expect it and won’t forget.
It would be neat to see some small-scale, original Tyrian holidays, that are actually in keeping with the game’s lore and not dependent on real-world cultures. Like, do humans observe any holidays dedicated to Dwayna, Melandru, Balthazar, etc.? Do Asura have Eternal Alchemy Day, or hold annual science fairs? The Charr already have Meatoberfest going 24/7 — it’s clear they know how to party.

Listen, I am all for keeping the religious aspects of any holiday out of MMO’s. However, these days things like Christmas (Yule) and Easter can also be construed as non-religious holidays as well.
I’m anti-religious and still celebrate Yule, personally, and if I had children they would probably get things from the Easter bunny, however, we’d do it scavenger hunt style, haha.
Regardless, the bunny portion of Easter, to my knowledge, has no religious backing and has only been around since the mid 1600’s. Why a rabbit delivers eggs, is really beyond me.

Probably the same reason why an overweight old guy with a massive beard breaks into your house to leave “presents” under your tree all the while eating your milk and cookies.
Any1 else feel sad that we dont have easter event? No pointing eggs, fighting with rabbits etc…? =(
It’s not Easter for everybody, though :P . I celebrate Easter at the beginning of May! With that being said I would have liked some outfits at least lol

Christmas isn’t necessarily a religious celebration in many parts of the world. For many it’s a secular event however Easter really isn’t.
The reason they use eggs for Easter is they took it from the pagans. Eggs were a symbol of the spring goddess of life and fertility. I know you didn’t ask that, but someone else made a reference to it. That’s where it came from similar to the trees in christmas coming from the pagans as well.
Because it is GW2 They are trying to make the game more difficult. So that everyone can stay in the game for a long time.
They had an early Easter event by putting bunny ears on sale.
They started the easter drops in GW in 2007, 2 years after launch,
I geuss they do the main holidays first (Halloween, wintersday, April fools Day (Hopefully something in summer, why not a Non-Human tradition, we didn’t see in GW, could be cool)EDIT: Birthday event could be in the summer
and in a few years when the main events don’t change alot, they can put recources in making something small for the smaller events (St.Patricksday, Easter…)
I’ve made my own “Easter” event in Guild Wars 2. Instead of hunting out eggs, I’m going directly for the source: Easter Rabbit Hunt. Going from zone to zone, finding whatever rabbits are around and killing them. It’s fun, bloody, and I’m sure I’ll tick off more than a few PETA members in the process…
I been dropping event boxes, bonfires, banners, food, npc’s all over my server all day long lol. It’s not game changing amazing, but its what I do :P NSP

Christmas has become a consumer holiday. Halloween stems from Pagan religion, but 90% of people who celebrate it aren’t doing it for the reasons the Pagans are, just like many people who celebrate Christmas aren’t doing it for Christianity or Catholoisism.

Christmas is a collection of pagan traditions, Wintersday is based on those, not on christmas itself because we lack their only addition (replacing the name of previous pagan gods with their own).
forum dwellers would go nuts about the need to
“grind” to get exp, new swords, new potions etc
