This is a very broad topic I wish to talk about, so pardon if I don’t cover everything or bounce from one thing to another. Would love other peoples input and thoughts on the subject matter.
Now I’m sure the gliding in jumping puzzles has been brought up more then a few times in the past. However I’m not trying to discuss why it should be one way or another but what changes I would like to see made so the way it currently is would work better. Example; I was finding while in the Dark Reverie jumping puzzle a few days ago that in spots I could glide a little bit and in other parts I couldn’t. Some consistency there would be nice. I know, I know; the icon is there for that, however it didn’t seem to matter much. Even with the icon there I sometimes could fly a few feet and sometimes couldn’t. Well pretty much I never want to glide during a jumping puzzle, I have heavy fingers and doing them is hard enough as it is, but when you go to jump and start gliding and then fall off your spot it is very annoying. I’ve noticed that at more then a few jumping puzzles when I occasionally do them here and there (I’m sure dedicated JP’ers could maybe added to this on how big a thing around all the JP’s it really is on whether it’s a problem or not, would love the input). Another thing I noticed was ounce when I was almost finished with that jumping puzzle, I fell and while there was no fly zone on, I thought you could at least turn it (gliding) on low to the ground so you wont die. Well I was mashing my space bar and never happened. The icon never disappeared either. While I have seen that particular feature work before in other puzzle it didn’t in this one. I have run into other places where I am doing a lot of jumping that I don’t want to fall from whether for chests or collections or a few mini dungeons come to mind as well, that I will jump and start to glide and can’t turn it off fast enough and fall off where I am and have to start over.
Another area I would like to bring up is diving goggles. While this may be very specific, this may have more impacted on new players or ones that are just starting to do achievements in this area so keep in mind if you got a lot of these done you may not realize the annoyance that gliding has brought to them. I have found while trying to knock out the Dry Top diving goggles where if your not familiar you have to climb up a bunch of bamboo and then grab your goggles and jump into a tiny pool below. It seemed since I was having a lot of attempts at it (kept missing the pool) that maybe 1 out of 5 times I would jump off with the diving goggles I would hit the jump button too hard and start to glide, thus cancelling my dive and having to start over from the bottom of the climb. Things like Dry Top and Silverwates achievements have to needing to jump really specifically into an area below (I think one of the HoT maps as well) and it just seems like an added difficulty for no reason, why cant when putting on diving goggles stop you from gliding? I have no idea how hard that would be to implement, but it does seem worth it. What do you guys and gals think?
Overall I think the consistency is the problem with the no fly zone and jumping puzzles. So I don’t know when I can and can’t fly, to know if I can’t jump without having to worry about my glider turning on. I would love a check box or a keybind to turn off gliding since there are places in just normal pve that I don’t want to deal with by mistakenly turning on my glider. You think I’m over reacting or did I hit the nail on the head here? Would love to hear what everyone thinks. Thanks in advance.
PS: Also maybe its just me, but could I get the no fly zone icon in wvw turned on? I keep forgetting that I can’t fly in there and the icon would be a nice reminder. Maybe that’s too much? Needless putting it in a game type that doesn’t have flying at all so it would be icon spam on the screen or would you like to see that as well?
