I don’t quite like how these zones just take away your glider in mid air, having you potentially fall to death without any chance of redeploying the glider in time, since you now need some endurance to deploy it. Why not just rotate the player 180 degrees (facing angle of character only, not camera)? I find this to be a much smoother solution.

On the latest stream, they showed how the No Fly Zones work. They don’t go all the way down. They seem t give you ample warning, then drop you. Once you get to a certain height (presumably low enough that your gliding will no longer be problematic) you can redeploy to avoid falling to your death.

Personally, after seeing it last Friday it looks well done.

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

ah so there are in fact no gliding zones in Tyria then, does it have more to do with map boundaries or Jumping puzzles or something else?
also does it go live tomorrow?

It basically causes your glider to collapse as if you ran out of stamina. And they don’t go all the way down, so you can still re-deploy it before you fall to your death. After all these years, they finally found a way to remove fall damage as a mechanic.

The one they showed was at the end of the Pirate JP in Lions Arch. They put up invisible walls that stopped someone from reaching it by air, and from gliding from the exit where the merchant is presumably. They showed a Dev’s eye view and the walls extend above the entrance level and then below the entrance level to about mid cliff high, then stop. No doubt they went around and put more along map boundaries also.
