No 'join in' option in LFG
You need to join the group using the LFG tool, and then in the party window on the left side of the screen right click the party leader and click “join in____”.
You also need to be on the right map already. The ‘Join in’ option will only move you to a different version of the map you’re in, it won’t teleport you across the world to the map your party is in.
So for example you can go to Verdant Brink, join a party that’s in a T4 map and then join them in their copy of the map. You can’t stand in LA, join a party that’s in a T4 VB map and use ‘Join In’ to teleport to VB.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Basically, “Join In” is a totally misleading way to describe this ‘feature’, it should be labeled
“put me in the same map copy as this member of the party as long as I’m in a different copy of that map already”
it also doesn’t actually move you to their location so you can them (in the usual meaning of the English word ‘join’) for God’s sake, so God help you if you’re joining a map like DS where pretty much every WP is contested.
At least when ZOS put this feature in ESO the game ported you to the right map copy from anywhere!

While that would be more convenient I imagine it comes with a whole host of other complex coding issues. e.g. does the game move you to their specific location, or to the nearest WP? How does the nearest WP get determined (you have to code that into the join function)? What happens if you haven’t travelled to where your party is (the code has to check for that)? etc. Basically you end up having to create a long chain of variables and checks.

Uhh.. yeah. That’s the way I do it.. I am not aware if there is any other to join groups lol. The thing is, I can’t click ‘’join in…’’ because there is no ‘’join in…’’ tab to click and I am not sure what is causing it. Bug? So far, I’ve never had anyone say that they have this problem and ingame nobody ever responded about it when I asked, which probably means they’re not experiencing this and have no idea what’s up. And yes, I am in the same map.
(I also might have titled the topic a bit wrong, I know you first need to join a party in LFG. Sorry ’bout that).

One major reason you may not see the option: you are in a different region from the party member. e.g. you are in NA and they are in EU.
Is this the situation then?

Did you by chance copy your gw2 folder to your friends machine to make things faster? If so, have them install normally somewhere else and try. I had this issue as well.
Technical: Perhaps the game data includes account information, and copying it to another machine makes the game think it’s the same account trying to join itself in an instance and therfore doesn’t give the “join in” option.
I apologize for the long delay in response.
I am thankful for an answer from an Anet memeber… however… By now I have to admit I am beyond confused… if this happens mostly because they are on the EU and I am on the NA servers, does that mean that every party I join is from EU? None of those are made by NA players? How does one join a party formed in the NA servers without knowing? Sorry if it’s a mess of words, but I just don’t know what to think of it any longer. It’s really quite a bit of a pain.
@Lunacy Solacio, I am not sure this is it. Because it does not matter if I am online or offline – the result is the same :/
@ SirDaniel, I did no copying whatsoever, so I think it has nothing to do with it either.

The LFG tool seems to be borked, at least for me. I can see groups in it, but the “Join” button is greyed out. It’s gotten worse and worse over the last hour or so; at first, a couple of refreshes is all it took to get the buttons working, but then it started taking longer. Now, I’ve been sitting with the LFG up for about 10 minutes, with no luck.

Your description doesn’t match what you have to do. It’s not a tab in LFG.
Right-click on the silhouette of the party leader. From the pop-up menu, choose Join in …. The party interface is at the far left of your screen, NOT in LFG. The leader will be the top one in your list, unless you are the leader.

I know it’s not a tab in LFG. I know that. But again, I might’ve written all of that wrong so I got misunderstood, but I am not looking for tabs in LFG itself. What I am saying is that there is no JOIN IN in that pop up menu when you right click on a player when I join a party. That’s what I’ ve been saying. And it doesn’t matter if I click on the party leader or anyone else.

You wont get that option if you are NOT in their map to begin with. It’s a location based context option. If you’re in LA, and they’re in Sparkfly Fen, you arent going to see the option to “Join in Sparkfly” until you actually waypoint INTO sparkfly.
Sounds like a problem for tech support.

I know that too. I know about the ‘join in’ tab not being in the lfg itself which Daddicus mentioned, I know that I need to be in the same map – it’s not like I never used LFG I know how it works, but the problem stays.
Well I guess sicne there hasn’t been anything new on this in days, it’s either every group I join is in EU or .. the next best solution is a ticket. Either way the way it is, LFG is something I cannot use ._.’’ Thanks for all the input however, I appreciate it.
