Why are the forums full of complaints about bots, RNG, and grinding? Do people understand that this game has no monthly fees and no tier gearing system other than skins? Here is a sticky list of Q & A that should answer most topic posts:

Q. Why hasn’t Anet got rid of all the bots!?
A. The bots have no real impact on YOU. If you need a mob for an event you only need to tag it to get credit. And there is a anti-farming code in place that keeps bots from having an advantage over YOU from farming a certain area hours on end. Sure they will use the gold to sell online but luckily YOU have the same option to buy gold without the chance of losing your account via the marketplace.

Q. Why isn’t there a set recipe for precursors?!
A. Precursors being RNG via the forge is good for the economy. This keeps trade supplies moving on the market and gives people a reason to farm nodes. If you don’t like tradeskilling or farming then you are more than welcome to buy gold via the marketplace and buy the items outright. But this game has no monthly fee so there is no real life monetary loss if you don’t get the item right away .

Q. Why is there so much grinding for karma, money, dungeon tokens!?
A. That is the end game. This isn’t a monthly fee game that provides game changing upgrades via raiding. At level 80 and full exotics nothing changes except how you look. You don’t have to play everyday to stay caught up with everyone else and you aren’t missing out on something that would make you a stronger character if you choose not to grind. And once again if you want to look pretty without farming there are gear sets for sale on the marketplace.

Summary. You are playing a game that’s only income is the marketplace exchange and the original purchase of the game. There are going to be certain things that they won’t provide due to financial limitations. It should be apparent by now that ANET doesn’t expect you to play one character at level 80 forever as they have created great stories for each race. But the best part about all this is that you don’t have to play 10 hours everyday to enjoy the content and no one is complaining about your gear because the stats are trivial. So enjoy the game for what it is and take your time after all you aren’t paying a monthly fee.

Umm OP I still payed $60 to play this game.

I expect quality at that price meaning bug free and hassle free. Now I do not expect the game to be bug free at release but I expect them to be fixed fast. I also expect a diligent customer service on the look out and handling those that wish to destroy the game by cheating (i.e. those that bot).

If you expect all the bugs in an MMO to be fixed very fast, you’re gonna have bad time
MMO’s are some of the most complicated games to program and arenanet has done a great job fixing these bugs as fast as they can.

OP your post will be understood by the open minded community who has a respect and understanding for the privilege it is to play such an excellent game with no monthly fee.

Regardless of the flaws which will eventually be fixed the sheer joy I have playing with my friends is amazing and I usually prefer NOT to play alone its just better with friends. I usually log off after 2 hours playing solo but hey I love being on vent and sharing experiences and laughs with the boys.

The ones that wont are self entitlted eliteist that will never be happy untill they can be the star of their own MMOPG.

Bots affect everyone, from market prices to slots in WvW to locked full servers. If there’s enough of them, they can even lock down drops. For example, on my server they currently have totems locked down, since there’s around 15 rangers with bears zerging the grawl. There’s way too many bots at this point. On a typical run through a zone, I usually see more bots (around 50) than actual players. The sad part though is that recently, unless they’re hacked account, I’ve been seeing what looks like real players (guild, non generic gear + dyed, non obvious fake account name) starting to bot.

They do have backups, they’re just currently unwilling to manually rollback your character. Besides, it’s impossible to get hacked if you properly setup your account and have decent security since they would need both the password to your account and your email. If they got both, you either have bad passwords or have lost a lot more than just your Gw2 account.

Their way of dealing with the bots is to shut drops off completely. Has anyone tried farming the trolls in Frostgorge since the update? They drop NOTHING, good luck trying to get your own mats for berserker gear. It’s a shame that all of the innovation and polish they put in this game they havent figured out how to keep from pooping on the players in their war against bots.

No, that’s not how it works. There’s no monthly fees on my other games and they’re very good, and I’ve been playing them for years on end. I’ve never played a game with monthly fees.

How do you explain the original Guild Wars then? It didn’t have monthly fees either and it didn’t suck.

Anet did an amazing job with guild wars 1 even wth no monthly fees.

Because it costs manpower and money and we’re not paying a sub. If you DO quit playing because of this or other customer support issues, they don’t care. They already have what money they’re going to get out of you. ANet has no incentive to give a crap – we’ve all already paid.

Want broken events or skill point challenges fixed? Ho hum, who cares, ANet has your money, what’re you gonna do, quit playing?

Overall design of orr zones sucks? Bummer. Go ahead, quit playing. The zones work great for the bots ANet does nothing about. Let’s see, we have hundreds of bots, people zerging karma which is lame, almost nobody doing events, one time pass thru for zone completion, and gathering runs which are on the decline due to the node timer nerf.

Enjoying PvE? Well shucks, ANet is nerfing classes to fix PvP, something that is ultra annoying in primarily PvE MMORPGs, and something that always happens and will continue to happen becuase nobody has ever balanced PvP in a class-based MMORPG and nobody ever will, so PvE suffers constantly because of butt hurt PvP whiners. Too bad, go ahead, quit, ANet has no reason to care.

No sub = no reason to care, fewer/no GMs, fewer CSRs, etc.

There are a few posts stating that there are other F2P games that are better than this one and don’t have the issues. Well I have played Diablo, Aion, and even Everquest. All these games have issues with content, bugs, balancing and bots. I would be complaining if I had to pay every month to play but considering that I don’t then its just a waiting game. I even play a ranger with the nerfed short bow auto attack. If I get annoyed with any aspect of the game I just log off and play something else. But at least I know that I won’t have to complete a raid or instance to stay effective in the game. If you want to feel entitled to complain because you paid an outrageous sum for the game then there are other games like WoW to fulfill that need.

I disagree Anet not doing away with bots has nothing to do with money. Its has to do with freedom to play as you , me and everyone wants . That can come at a high cost so too do away with bots all at once and you will take much of the freedom away . Small changes have been made to limit the amount damage taking a way from the real players us. Well I hate bots ! I understand that that the way its being done is the best away from all of us. What I want to know have you even taking sometime to report these bots to Anet so you can help out or do you just complain and do nothing about ?

Well, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Stop using the no monthly fee to justify everything that others find annoying, or plain unfair about the game. It gets really annoying, and gets us nowhere.

People obviously don’t know how the anti bot code works….If you farm a certain area for an extended period of time you get no loot drops. So when you see 5 bots farming one area after approximately 30mins they get nothing (maybe gray drops). If anything the increased amount of tradeskill drops is a bonus because it lowers the value of them which helps make crafting easier. Yes the regular person can’t farm for hours on end in a certain area to get tradeskill drops either but that is not what this game in about. Mobs are almost instant respawn so it would be ridiculous if you could farm trolls for powerful blood all day without any diminishing returns. But if they added an extended respawn timer people would complain about that. So just like the bots you farm an area for 30mins and then move on. If you think there is a magical way for ANET to get rid of ALL the bots you are seriously mistaken.

I’ve been real nice in numerous threads trying to explain how mass botting screws games for everyone that plays them.

But you know what ? Im tired of people with their heads stuck so far up their kitten that all they smell is their own rose flavored kitten.

So think what you want and in a few months time,you can enjoy the effects that rampant botting has caused all by your self centered self,because anyone who actually cared about the GW2 community will be long gone.

From what I understood the OP wasn’t suggesting that the game should allowed to be bad because it doesn’t have a monthly fee…
He was saying that because there’s no fee, you’re not being forced to play all day long to make your money count. You can take your time to do things, there is no hurry and you won’t have to spend more money for doing so. Therefore those people complaining about the grinding and no end game shouldn’t be in such a hurry to get the top items but instead more relaxed and enjoying the game.

I guess you haven’t played many MMOs. Bots can and will completely ruin the market.

Not ONCE did ArenaNet ever say that we should expect sub-par quality as a result of there not being a monthly subscription. In fact, quite the opposite is true: They stated on many occasions that they would produce a product that did not lack in content/quality compared to other Triple-A MMOs, and what do we have? A buggy, bot-ridden mess that lacks an end-game/worthwhile replayability.

This would be a valid argument if the game was free but it is not and we payed the fee expecting certain things. No cheating is the top aspect of that. Just because there is no sub doesnt mean the game can just be awful (which is is by no means) but your reasoning would allow for it with us with nothing to complain about.

Dear OP, it seems you have not played the numerous F2P mmorpgs out there. They also generate their income from Item mall (BLTC here). Infact you dont even need to pay $60 to get their game. Being F2P cannot be used as an excuse in present times.

BOTS do have a negative effect on players, the anti-farming codes effect players too, and if you have been to any area where the mobs drop decent value drops, it is even hard to get a tag with the amount of bots spamming their skills.

If you think getting lvl 80 and exotic gears does not changes anything then I invite you step out of PvE and try some WvWvW with your normal white/blue gear and then full exotic set. You will see the difference in your ability to do damage and your ability to survive.

Anet made hundreds of millions of dollars through game sales only, so I dont think financial restriction will kick in just after 1 month of launch (I know they have to run servers for long, but still). It is okay to be a fanboi if you want to, but please dont discourage others from making constructive criticism. Constructive criticism is what takes a game forward (if it is listened), not mindless hating, nor mindless praising.

Well, I find this all to be in perfect order. My mind is now forever changed. I will, hence forth, no long expect anything from a game with no monthly fee.

To clear some things up…You paid $60 for this game and pay no monthly maintenance/upkeep fees so in reality you bought this game as is e.g. Skyrim. Sure you can complain all you want but ANET doesn’t have to change anything about the game that would hurt their main goal = making money. If that means less programmers to modify content then they would be well within their rights.

I am sure most people can agree that bots are linked to gold sellers. Well don’t buy gold and they won’t be around. You can only blame other gamers for funding their ability to buy more accounts to bot. Sure they hurt the marketplace, but in reality they only hurt the sellers by lowering the prices of goods. I don’t farm the marketplace for goods to buy and resell at a profit otherwise I might be mad too.

For those that bought the game thinking it was all about end game then I feel sorry for you. If you would have taken a second to read beta reviews you would have known what you were paying for beforehand.

I don’t understand this logic. It’s like saying that you should be happy eating a kitten sandwich, just because you get it for free. No, I want a good game, the cost of it has nothing to do with that.

So you guys can justify paying 60 dollars for Console games with a 20-40hour play time max and complain when a pc game like gw2 can give you 200+?
