I read somewhere (I think the Twitch transcript) that there is no plans for an expansion this year or the next?

Does that mean we have two years of absolutely nothing, and after they built that cliffhanger at the end of the personal story too?

I could understand one year, but with the living story going on, GW2 is really starting to feel like a Saturday Morning cartoon where they never capture the villain…

You heard incorrectly. Colin only said that there would be no new dragon this year, and spoke nothing of next year.

Having no dragons for 2 years won’t bug me one bit.

Pretty much spot on. What was actually said was that elder dragons are expansion material and they aren’t working on an expansion yet and have no plans to do so in the immediate future.

Since it takes 2-3 years to build an expansion that means you will not be seeing a dragon for a minimum of 2 years, but 3 would probably be more accurate since they aren’t even considering an expansion yet.

Listen/read again.
They said that they have not yet decided if they want to add the Dragons (and other stuff) in expansions or via Living story. Nothing else.
They have also stated quite a few times that “expansion materials” can very well be added via the Living Story.

The only thing he actually said was that there won’t be another Dragon THIS YEAR. That would mean we COULD get another Dragon on January 1st.

And no, 2-3 years to build an expansions is actually quite slow, and more of an exception than a norm.

The best part about no monthly fee is that you can take a game break and come back when you want to and you have nothing lost. There is enough in game to keep me occupied for a while, but if there is not for you, and you need a new dragon to be happy, then you could always take a break and come back whenever they decide the right time is.
